Nice work by Merida and the handlers to quickly avoid a disaster. That horse is beautiful. I hope this doesn't discourage them continuing this appearance.
Agreed. Excellent work by the escort handlers controlling and soothing the horse. Very good horse riding by Merida with a well timed smooth dismount and efficient exit. No person or animal hurt due to a totally freak accident. As for the child, well, it's a child that was thrilled at the site of Merida and the horse. A good idea would be to secure the balloon to the stroller or to the wrist of the child, I recommend the stroller. The Dad did a quick snag and retrieval of the child, I say good reflexes. All said and done lets continue to enjoy Merida riding Angus waving at the guests.

The dismount was smooth. A pro at being a princess and handling a large, strong animal.

I've seen how much these Cast Members love these animals. I know the Animals must love them back. It's a testament to that relationship that the horse was able to be calmed in a difficult situation. If you ever get the chance, be sure to check out the the barn area at Fort Wilderness. It's brand new and it's open to guests to walk around and check it out.

I’m gonna miss the old barn but I do look forward to seeing the new one. I’m glad they were able to keep the old circus wagon on display.

I think there was a petting area with the animals at FW that was nice.

Because I don't watch the parades usually I'm not sure if Merida usually rides the horse or not but from the multiple videos I watched yesterday she seemed very uncomfortable on the horse and the horse also seemed uncomfortable so when you add the balloon to the mix just not good.
And the way she scrambled away also makes me feel like she was kinda pushed to get on the horse when maybe she did not feel comfortable. Horses can tell these things.
I've been around horses my entire life. Merida and the handlers walking with the horse, are clearly trained extremely well. If any of them hadn't been prior to this incident, it would have ended differently. Merida wasn't just "sitting on a horse"...she's a rider...you can tell by how she handled herself as the horse reared, as well as the speed with which she dismounted.

Please read my other post that states it was other videos she did not look comfortable and that I too know a thing or two about horses. Thanks

Good golly people. The horse isn't panicked. A panicked horse would have been ugly. The handlers did a good job of reassuring the horse, even though their masks are probably strange to the horse and not helping the situation. The child did what children will do. How many movie storylines have been made about a child's lost balloon?

This is no big deal.

Yes, she knew how to ride, There is no way they would put someone who had no horse experience on any horse that was going to be out in public & his handlers were great.. They got him to calm down, got the stupid balloon off him & he continued with the parade.. Bravo to them all
i was going to ask if they look for people with lots of equestrian experience for these roles, because they are animals anything can happen, I mean the headless horsemans horse has fallen at least once. What a beautiful and well trained horse btw.... even though it was rightfully spooked it calmed down super quick (a less trained horse would have been a lot worse)
great work by the handlers as well
