After reading some threads about improvements WDW needs to make I've seen a few people mention Horizons. I have no idea what that is. Please help a poor soul who has no idea what that was!

I've always felt that Horizons could've been viewed the same way Spaceship Earth is. An attraction that could've been constantly revamped an updated with new scenes and technology.

We won't go into my distaste for its replacement...

IMO, the only reason Spaceship Earth hasn't suffered the same fate is that its building is the icon of Epcot.

However, Spaceship Earth is 95% historic, so to update it only requires updating a few scenes (which has been done like....... three times?). Horizons would require an update of roughly 50% of the attraction.

...which would still be better than Mission:Space. I'm sorry that monstrosity just irks me to no end.

Yeah MS stinks.

This last trip a few weeks ago I only went on it once, and that one time was horrible. The scene in at my station in the capsule was messed up, the whole screen had a very yellowish tint to it and blurry, also the joystick had no simulated motion at all

To me M:S can be summed up as the following:

Get in a phone booth with three other people

Get spun around at violent speeds

Watch video game in front of you

Vomit if neccesary.

DMC-12

It's HarmonioUS, NOT HarmoniYOU.
Horizons was a dark ride of what Imagineers on acid and Quaaludes in the 1970's thought what the future would look like.

Its die hard fanbois have been QQ-ing about its demolition for many many years now. And as a result, most hate mission space, just cause it killed daddy and took its place.

^^Ah another fan!

Horizons was the attraction that was definitively futuristic in Future World. It badly need an upgrade and from what many have said WDI had great proposals to fix it up however the price tag to make it "modern" was not liked by Eisner and the project was indefinitely shelved. It's really a shame as it really was, and still is, an important aspect of FW.

Maybe someday they'll go crazy and build a 21st Century, or 22nd Century , version in between The Land and The Seas. Ah if only...

im not saying this to troll or anything:

but i think MS is a HUUUUUUGGGGE improvement from Horizons. Future World is supposed to be about the FUTURE! its supposed to have the most technically advanced rides.

i just think the "traditionalists", as i call them, are holding WDW back. if we keep holding on to these...dare i say...boring rides like Horizon, we wont ever come close to being compared to other Disney Parks. compare any of our original dark rides to the new ones in TDL or HKDL. They blow us out of the park! (no pun intended)

i dont mean to hate on Horizons, im just saying that MS was an improvement. you cant say things like "we need more E-tickets to kill Potter" and then hope they dont change anything

That's fine that you like M:S, different strokes for differnt folks. However, many, not all, of the people who you are talking about aren't anti-progress. Most of them, and I would probably include myself in the group, dislike when a good idea like Horizons or the original EC entrance layout, isn't "plussed" but rather is just discarded. It's even more grating to these people when the replacement is narrower in its audience than it's predecessor. By audience I mean mean people who can enjoy it, not who wants to enjoy it. Everybody could enjoy Horizons, not everybody wanted to enjoy it. Only some people can enjoy M:S, only some want to enjoy it. It's also grating when the replacement is far shorter than the original, example - JIYI and M:S. Is that a good explanation?

You were seven (six?) when the pavilion closed. How could you possibly make an informed opinion about whether or not Mission Space improved upon Horizons?

memories and youtube.

im not trying to start a fight, im just saying that we're quick to think Disney is ruining itself when they do have a plan.

For example, when i was a kid, Mr. Toad's was my favorite dark ride in MK, and when i heard it was closed down due to Pooh coming in, i was crushed. but now, looking back, i realized that Pooh probably was a smart choice looking back, though i hate to admit it.

I'd love to see them create a New Horizons, so long as they pay as much attention to detail as they did with Horizons!

Thanks everybody! I asked my DH if he remembers Horizons from our honeymoon in '94 but he didn't. I guess it was closed by then. BTW, I love Mission Space. Only the intense version (after taking motion sickness pills though) the mild is too wimpy, I mean what's the point?
