Hong Kong Disneyland: Big Trouble?

Who is Disneyland Shanghai going to be directed at, because it's not like the common Chinese citizen can afford those exorbitent prices. Perhaps DLHK was designed to fail from the start in order to get a foot hold in the Asian market (when HK was still governed by the British) .. Hmmm

That isn't the only concern I have with Shanghai DL. I don't know what themes will work with mainland Chinese.

"Western" style themes (like Main St. USA and Frontierland for example) work well in Japan and Hong Kong which have been westernized for the past several decades, the same can't yet be said for that area of China IMO.

It will be interesting if it does get built, how many differences there will be

I don't get this either. I own a company in the states with a factory in china. Each of the workers make the equivalent of $250 a month. That's in mainland, about 1hour from hong kong. I can't imagne it's much different near shanghai. Who will spend the money to go???

Pardon the spelling. Sent from my iPhone.

Close it - direct Budget to WDW. I'm not seeing a problem :)

Doesn't work that way.

And some of us, who have been there, actually love the park.

It's an amazingly beautiful little resort that in many ways offers higher quality than WDW does.

I hate the gamesmanship being played between Iger's stoodges and the HK SAR officials.

It will get built.

And they're looking at more cartoonish type representations of much of those lands you mentioned.

But largely, you'll still recognize it as a Disney MK.

And there also is a lot of money in Shanghai ...it is viewed as the NYC of China. The resort will work ... as will HKDL ... if they spend wisely.

I thought hong kong was the nyc of china... Median income of the eqivalent of $80k... And it's still not enough to fill that small park.

Off topic 74.... I'm visiting DLP for the first time as we speak, and it's making me not feel like heading back to wdw anytime soon.

Income has very, very, very little to do with HKDL's numbers.

There are enough people in HK alone to make it a substantial success.

That it isn't speaks to many issues it has that have nothing to do with what locals earn and everything to do with the mindset of the people at TWDC who built the park and the mindset of those who refuse to now contribute more to its success.

I know the feeling ... it's why it only took me one visit to own an AP.

I'd be very curious in your opinions and observations, so I hope when you get back you put some up ... and I'd put them up on the WDW board so you can do a compare/contrast thing because, frankly, I think barely anyone reads this section at all.

~Have a great trip!!!~

I dont think Disney would that happen. That would be a PR nightmare.

I wasn't going to post something I wrote for LP.com on this site, but since there seems to be some action here ... I'll go pull it down and start a new thread that tackles that issue a bit.

~Loves HKDL!~
