Honeymoon Registry!

Just thought that anyone who is honeymooning in WDW this year would like to know that the honeymoon registry is up and working today! I got an email this morning, and all I had to do was click on the link and enter my resort reservation #. From there, you can register for just about anything Disney has to offer. Just thought you would like to know!

Thanks for posting that link! I was having a hard time getting to the page through the waltdisneyworld search engine! I am planning on registering my honeymoon (Sept 4-11), but not for tickets or rooms, just dining and fun stuff :) . Thanks again!

We have signed up for the registry. I have a question about it. When you choose all of the things that you want people to contribute to as gifts, does money get put on your card and then they just trust that you will use it for those things and at those places? I'm not sure if I'm wording my question correctly.

I'm sorry , but this sounds really strange.

Why on earth would you want other people picking out stuff for your honeymoon?

Other people aren't picking out stuff for your honeymoon. It works the same as any other wedding registry. You pick out the stuff that you intend to do, including the resort you are staying at, and they contribute gifts of money toward those things. Make sense?

OK, I was thinking along the lines of Disney lingerie  :brick:

Money, ya' can't go wrong there.

I just registered my honeymoon and it looks as though they allow you to use the card wherever you please, it works like cash/debit. In fact, that would make most sense. What would happen if the restaurant you registered for when under refurb or was completely booked? Unlikely to happen but still possible. Another reason why I think it is used just like a debit system, you only are allowed $3,000 max on the card. In the terms/conditions you can actually "purchase" items on your registery and this frees up more room for additional items. I'm not sure how this works?

This is just my interpretation of the information that I've read, though. It really probably doesn't matter to Disney how you use the monetary value on the card since you are restricted to using the card only on Disney parks/restaurants/merchandise/etc. and cannot redeem it for cash.

If you're registering with Disney are you still registering anywhere else? I'm still trying to figure out if we should register anywhere else or just hope that everyone contributes toward our honeymoon (we're having a small wedding).

I think it all depends on what you want. The fun part about any registry is that its your chance to "tell" people what you really want, and if all you want is contributions towards your honeymoon than that's cool. (Just know that some people will get whatever they want for you, regardless of where/what you register for!)

Personally, my fiance and I also registerd at Crate and Barrel and Bed, Bath, and Beyond for our household items. That fit for what we want/need, we are literally just starting out! As for the honeymoon registry, we kept it strictly fun stuff like spa/recreation/dining. We are buying tickets/accomodations/dining plan separately so if nobody decides to purchase anything on our registry, its no big deal.

But that's just what fit with us! And this way, people have some options for what they want to get you. This is especially true for those relatives/friends who want to get something tangible. Hope this helps!

You are correct on the limit. Since it includes things like the resort, dining plan and tickets, you can call your TA or CRO at any point to apply some of the dollars to your reservation.

For the OPs question, you are not locked into anything you list. It is dollars that can be spent anywhere.

It is a great new program, I actually spent some time speaking with the developer of it, as I am a TA that books many honeymoons and wanted the ins and outs of the program. I had a bride who was sure she would end up with multiple sets of ears (since we provide one). I am sure there are worse duplicate gifts.

Wishing all of you brides and grooms magical days

Just so that you all know, if you have a room only reservation, you actually can not make payments ahead of time beyond the initial deposit. I tried to do this and she told me the only way was to upgrade to a package. So, if you're trying to clear some money off your card, and you're in my situation, it can't be done by paying on the room.

That makes a lot of sense! I have a follow-up question, Sandy. If you aren't registering for any accomodations/tickets, how can you have some of the dollars applied to the reservation? For example, we registered for all dining/spa items. Is there any way to have that added somehow? Thanks for all the help!!:)

Hi Amy -

Hopefully I am understanding your question correctly, you are not registering for accomodations/tickets but for other items. You want to use the "other money" for accomodations.

Basically, the registry purchases are really symbolic item. For example, if you are registered for a room night at the Poly (which is $370.13 for a garden view during value season) it will give you a little extra money (the site is down now but I believe it makes for 8 $50 requests per night). While the guest is expecting you to get a massage (or whatever) you can use the money on the card however you want. It's like registering for a coffee maker at Macy's and returning it for a store credit to buy something else. Disney skips the return step for you and just gives you the credit to do as you please.

Hope this helps.

I think that the basic idea behind the whole system is kind of so you can lay out your "intended" plans for your honeymoon trip and your guests, family, friends, etc. can contribute toward that. Rather than just giving you $X.XX, they can personalize their gift to you by "buying" you something that you want to enjoy during your trip. In addition, it kind of helps people associate what they're spending with what you're really getting out of it.

If someone decides, "Hmm, let's cover their dinner at XYZ Restaurant so that they can have a nice evening out", it's feels much more personal and reasonable to the purchaser than just sending in a $100 bill. It's kind of like giving them something tangible to associate their gift with.

I love the idea...now I've gotta just get all the other pieces in line first..like, I don't know, a ring!

No offense, but in my day, a registry was only used to give wedding guests suggestions as to what you might need for setting up your HOME together, not your honeymoon. It only included gifts that you would be using (and hopefully, thinking of those who gave them to you) for the rest of your life. It was strictly a guideline for those who did not see you frequently, but still cared about you.

(ie, I chose gifts from my niece and nephew's registry)

So please don't be surprised if your older relatives/family friends think this (registering for your honeymoon) is strange or even tacky.

These are just some things that came to mind of why I think these registries are becoming more popular is because of several reasons: couples getting married who are older and already have their own apartments and therefore don't really need much in the way of household items, in fact some may be combining two apartments, so will have two of everything already and have to purge things; if the couple is already living together, they have pretty much most home items; and in many areas of the country people buy gifts for the wedding instead of giving money.

Also, I think that when couples go to register for gifts they end up picking out things that they will never use just because they are told they'll need them, like china and crystal. When my goddaughter married two years ago, she had china and crystal on the registry and everyone bought it for her and to this day it is stored in the attic and hasn't and probably will never see the light of day. So to me that was a total waste of money and would have rather contributed money to a honeymoon registry.

I know many people will feel that it is strange and tacky. Nothing you can do about that, but then again you'll have people that go off and buy their own thing because they don't like buying items from a registry. I always buy from the registry, but one of the things I've done for both my goddaughter and now her brother's intended's shower was to give them each a starter box of christmas ornaments.

To be quite honest, my girlfriend and I fit the scenario mentioned whereas we each have pretty much all of the household items that we need.

Regardless, even if we didn't, it's my opinion that the gift of being able to enjoy our honeymoon at the place that makes us happiest in this world will most certainly be a gift that will last a lifetime! And those friends and relatives who choose to do so will be graciously remembered for giving us the most Magical, enjoyable honeymoon that we could ever have dreamed of - one that would not have been possible without them!

There are things and then there are things that will always be with you, no matter where you go or how old you are!
