We're headed back down next week and already have reservations at 1900 Park Fare (breakfast) & Akershus (lunch). Just wanted some honest opinions on the food and experience. Obviously, these choices were mainly for the experience. All 3 of the kids LOVED our character meals a few weeks ago! Thanks in advance!

I can't comment on Askerhaus, but 1900 Park Fare was the weakest of the Monorail Character breakfasts for me. I prefer Chef Mickey's, Ohana, and Crystal Palace.

Being 4th on that list is nothing to complain about though, and I suspect you will have a wonderful time.

We really enjoy all the character breakfasts on property. 1900 PF is good (I like Chef Mickey's better but solely due to the fact it has the Fab 5. 1900 Pf is good for meeting some not so "common" characters: Alice In Wonderland, Mad Hatter, Mary Poppins.. The food there is basically all the same.)

I really enjoyed both, because the the PF has the unique characters that you generally don't get to see in the park, and Askerhaus is a breakfast, which is pretty generic. There used to be one in DHS (Before it became DHS that had all the Aladin Characters,) and the buffet was fantastic. They have since changed the buffets and the locations. I like both places, so place you'r money where you will.

It really depends on what characters you want to meet. At breakfast, the food at those 3 locations is nearly identical.

We didn't care for the food served at Ankershus for dinner about 6 years ago. Just not our taste. Things may have changed since then and I don't know if they serve the same things for lunch as they do for dinner.

We had 1900 Park Fare for breakfast last year. The character interaction is great. Especially with Alice and the Mad Hatter. They were very entertaining. The food was average buffet food. I didn't think it was any better than any other place on property. Still good food but what sets the place apart is the characters.

I really enjoyed 1900 PF when I went there for breakfast a couple years back. It is definitely neat getting to interact with Mary Poppins and Alice. There are two showcase foods on the buffet there: strawberry soup and lobster eggs benedict. The strawberry soup is a cold soup that's reminiscent of melted strawberry ice cream, but much much better. The lobster eggs benedict is traditional eggs benedict with lobster in the hollandaise sauce. Both are really tasty. I still talk about the eggs benedict two years later.

I can't comment on Akershus, but I will suggest Tusker House as another character breakfast. Its in the animal kingdom and the standard characters are there: donald, daisy, goofy, and mickey. No minnie or pluto. The reason I suggest this one is that it is hands down the best breakfast buffet I have had a WDW. They have a huge selection of traditional as African and African inspired foods. The highlights were: fried plantains, mealie pap (a sweet porridge that tastes like corn pudding), spiced corned beef hash, chocolate mango bread, mealie corn bread (not like our corn bread, it is a traditional bread with corn kernels in it), bread pudding with vanilla sauce, and jungle juice (guava and orange juice mixed together)

We have done both and while we loved 1900 PF we really didnt care for Akershus. We gave it a couple tries (daughter who loved princesses) and just didnt find it to be worth it. The food was OK, not bad but not great, it was the character interaction that was a real disappointment. It was very rushed and they were not very attentive. One time could be a fluke but twice, Im guessing its more the norm.

1900 on the other hand, the food was better by leaps and bounds. And the characters were a ton more fun. This is one of the best character meals we have had, Play and dine was good too.

We did 1900 PF for an early breakfast and Akershus for lunch on our last trip.

We LOOOOOOOOOVED 1900PF. We got there a little early and were seated right away, the service was great, the bulk of the characters we had were exceptional (Mad Hatter was a bit strange, but Mary Poppins rocked and the Winnie the Pooh beat the Crystal Palace Pooh), and finally- the food was the best breakfast buffet we had all trip. My top picks were the smoked salmon and the sticky buns.

Lunch at Akershus was good for the most part. I'll break down the pros and cons.

Pros- Cinderella was there and she took DD4 by the hand to help her parade around the restaurant, everyone but me and my father RAVED about their food (DH had the chicken sandwich, mom had the mushroom pasta :slurp: -dad and I each got the kjottke- which were not bad, but far from exciting), the restaurant is pretty, the appetizer/salad bar buffet was very good (I'm all about cheese and smoked salmon:lol:), server sweet, and pictures were included (2 poses).

Cons- the chaotic long waiting process to get in/have your name called, the bathrooms are small, as noted the kjottke was ehhh and our girls didn't really care for the ravioli, the dessert was also nothing special, and it lacks the magic of going to CRT in the castle.

*Still, with the cons- we enjoyed it enough to be returning for dinner in August for DD4's 5th bday. Have a great trip!

TUSKER is number 1 best food of all of them and great character interaction. If you are up at the buffet then they come back to your table so not to worry and
Crystal Palace is another good one..

Heard Asker is not so good
Really huigh price to pay for Cindy for average food but we will try it when our little one gets old enough to appreciate it

We enjoyed our breakfast at Park Fare. Food was mostly good, and the strawberry soup was to-die-for. It's one of my favorite foods in all Disney World. The character interaction was excellent, especially with the Mad Hatter who was a riot.

As for our dinner at Akershus, we loved the great princess interaction, but all four of us hated the food. We probably would have enjoyed breakfast there more.

we did 1900 park fare for dinner with a party of 5 ages almost 5, 19, 25, and 2 in their mid 40s. we're a diverse group of eaters from adventurous to meat and potatoes. i will say that we rarely eat at buffets and when/if we do it's usually breakfast. we didn't really like the food, just passable for us but i will honestly say we've NEVER laughed so hard over a character dinner EVER! the step sisters (druzella especially) was absolutely hysterical.

askerus for breakfast was good. the food was pretty much like you'd get anywhere in wdw. i did like the inclusion of the cheeses with the fruits. the princess experience was similar to what's done at crt. our experience there was very good. i liked the different characters, like mulan, mary poppins. my granddaughter is obsessed with sleeping beauty and as the characters came around she said, hello i like you very much but do you know when sleeping beauty will have time to visit me? well mary poppins said she'd let her know she was waiting. the woman playing sleeping beauty came over and spent a lot more time than we've ever had with a character experience really taking the time to talk one on one with her. it was the absolute high point of the trip.

Breakfast at 1900 is typical Disney buffet breakfast fare and the selection compared to Crystal Palace was second rate. The setting and ambience are great and we found the character interaction to be very good as well.
We were on the first table which the characters visited when they came out which was very hard to guage when it was "safe" to go get food. Mary Poppins came out when my wife and daughters were getting food, I explained, she acknowledged and went on her way. HOWEVER, when she saw they had come back to the table she broke off from her planned route and came back to see them - a great touch.

Overall experience 8/10 - can't beat Crystal Palace I'm afraid

:)Love Crystal Palace, can't beat it Pooh and the gang make it so memorable, that we always hit there at least once, and sometimes twice for a meal. (even if we have to pay for it out of our own pockets!!) I like the 1900, but honestly if I'm gonna spend that kind of money I'd go for CP, hands down. :xmas:

You will love 1900 Park Fare - the Mad Hatter is amazing! The food is always good too! As for Akerhaus for lunch, if you have any picky eaters, they may not like it here. The lunch and dinner menu is not to my liking - I am not a really picky eater but I guess I am not a "brave, try new things" eater. And when I was here for dinner, I paid full adult price to order off the kids menu. And I got the vegetables and noodles and still didn't care for it. The experience is amazing though - but I would go for breakfast if you could. 1900 Park Fare is always good.
