Hollywood Studios Musicals

Forgive me if I refer to the Studios as MGM, its what I know.

Anyway, HS doesn't have the many shows. Well, new shows. All the shows are showing their age. It feels like Beauty and Beast and Indy Jones have been around since forever. Does anyone actually still watch the horrid American Idol? The cars show is not that great and is a waste of space.

What could replace these shows? I love the Newsies, while I haven't seen the Broadway show, the movie is a classic. But what other Disney live action show could replace the current ones?

They should bring the Aladdin show from DCA to replace BATB. That production was spectacular! But, it would also be neat if they tried something new like the Newsies show you mentioned. A Hercules show would also be quite hilarious.

As for American Idol, they should definitely bring back Superstar Television!

I can't complain about Indy or LMA because those shows are actually pretty awesome.

...And the late lamented Hunchback.

Although the latest travel DVD has interviews with loyal longtime cast members talking about keeping the "tradition" of the parks, and the Studios CM they interview is the stunt-Marian at Indy. So it's obviously considered one of the "old-school" icons of the relatively new park.

Well, there was talks of a Tangled show at BaTB..But, I think they should use the Theater on the Streets of America just to get traffic flow in the area again.

I still laugh at how they were Hoping Dick Tracy was going to be the "Saving Grace" and be a big deal at the Studios park in the 90's..

If they're just going to port stuff over, Cinémagique would be kind of a no-brainer for the American Idol theater.

As for the outdoor theater, I would love to see Disney commission some more original musicals based on their existing IP.

Pay Robert Lopez to make Treasure Planet: The Musical or something, I dunno.
You get the idea.

I think they should do Frozen live on Stage since Frozen is heading to Broadway.

I am saying this also because the soundtrack has been #1 for 12 weeks and has sold 2.5 million copies so far. Frozen is too much of a gold mine right now in terms of box office numbers and album sales for just having 5 hour meet and Greets with at the Magic Kingdom with Anna and Elsa.

The only question is would there be enough seats for Frozen Live on Stage since the Anna and Elsa Meet and greets have insane waiting times.

My favourite show was the Broadway style outdoor 1989. Minnie mouse singing "We're in the money" while dressed as a giant gold coin. At some point she was Carmen Miranda with lots of giant bananas on stage. We have it on VHS (I need to get then transferred), some old guy in a red baseball cap kept standing up trying to call his wife over. She was called Martha. Throughout the whole show we have the guy standing up shouting "Martha! Martha! CM'Ere Martha!" Anyhoo, that was my favourite MGM show. I do have pictures of it somewhere. *must buy scanner*

I agree about Aladdin- I've heard so many amazing things about the one at DCA! Also, Newsies was great on Broadway but it is still running so don't hold your breath for it to make it to DHS any time soon.

I believe Cinemagique has rights issues regarding leaving Europe. Shame.

Whilst Indy and BatB continue to play to packed theatres there's no reason to replace them until the land is needed for other things. Shame though that the backlot theatre like so many other places in the parks was removed from onstage.

Idol will go. It never hit the mark they wanted. It just needs the investment. And someone to pull their finger out and commit to SW or otherwise.

I dunno if you can consider 25 years "relatively new"... I mean, it ain't 40, but it's far from new.

If they brought in Cinemagique, it would need to be completely retooled for an american audience -- while I love it as it stands, it also prominently features several well-known european stars who aren't that well known in the US (with the possible exception of Julie Delpy for the art movie crowd) -- but that could be done.

BATB has long been rumored to be replaced by The Princess and the Frog -- they have already built all the costumes and puppets and have rehearsed it -- but if and when that will ever happen is a big question...

I suspect that's largely because the park doesn't offer much, especially for those with young children or who do not like thrill rides. I think at this point any show in those spaces would play to similar sized audiences.
Quite possibly. Sadly though, just like attendance, higher figures mean its all okay so don't do anything.

They have it set up that way on purpose for just that sadly, which of course we knew already, so they dont have to spend. Cheap and lazy. :banghead: But they know fine well its time for a change in some of those locations. If they don't they are worse than I thought lol.
