Rumor Hollywood insiders say there's growing tension at Disney as CEO Bob Chapek chafes at Bob Iger's 'long goodbye'

there is no scapegoat. Whomever decided Disney contacts did not have to be honored is a guilty pig. Thats it. He knows who he is. I hope Scarlett J. gets double the suing price. This makes Disney look like liars. Every company on the planet should have enough honor to honor their contact agreements.
*IF* Disney didn't honor their contracts, you'd be right.

There's absolutely no evidence that's been presented that that's the case. It's he-said-she-said.

An insider was quoted saying that Chapek didn't expect the ScarJo situation to, "blow up in his face." And that Iger has a better and broader background that knows how to work with talent. In any case, it's wild that Disney wouldn't respond to ScarJo's reps when they wanted to renegotiate her contract. You can't just point and cry, "We're in a pandemic!" The film was already delayed - the thought to change distribution should have been discussed. Now a domino effect is happening.

This happening to an actress that was the only woman lead in the group of the Avengers, and the character having a history in fighting for equal representation in the MCU (so much so that she doesn't get her solo film until after having her character killed off,) looks pretty bad.

This is an older article and is from before the lawsuit, but I find it to be helpful in contextualizing a lot of what's going on within the company.

Chapek being the fall guy was always my suspicion when he was promoted to CEO 1 month before COVID shut down nearly everything that made Disney money.

This. The timing was so suspect. Iger claims that he had no idea COVID was going to be so bad, but considering his connections, the behaviors from major corporate heads shortly before things began shutting down, and the swath of information that was already in the news, I've always felt like Chapek was thrown under the bus. IMHO, Iger only came back because people started calling him out on it - not to help the company, but to protect his reputation (and then benefit from it by "swooping in" and rescuing the sinking ship.)

Bollocks, Iger bailed because he did not want the covid effects on Disney to reflect poorly on him and his future run for President, Chapek was supposed to take the fall and Iger would sweep in like Romney at the Salt Lake City Olympics and singlehandedly save the company from his chosen ‘fall guy’ apparent incompetence.

This would burnish his resume in time for the 2024 presidential election.

fortunately for the country Iger owns the whole ugly Disney scenario. And will not be running for anything in the near future

to force him out then be replaced by who?

and the who could be even worse than chapek

Josh D`Amaro I would think. As has been stated in this thread, the timing of Chapek's ascendency to the CEO role was quite odd. Knowing Iger's connections in the business world, I figured that he was leaving because he foresaw the effects of COVID on the company and didn't want to tarnish his reputation and/or deal with the headache of the recovery. The idea that Chapek is a "fall guy" was popularized by an inflammatory YouTube channel (I can't even remember which), but I don't think the truth is far off. Josh also rapidly went from President of Disneyland Resort to Disney World and only stayed there for a remarkably short period. Now that he's head of Disney Parks, Resorts and Experiences, it seems like Josh has the CEO trajectory neatly laid out for him.

Josh becoming CEO would probably be a best case scenario for the company though. I've seen him parrot a lot of the nonesense that is no doubt the result of Chapek's decisions, but I think that's just playing the politics. I've seen Josh down in the parks and in Disney Springs, talking directly to guests and taking their opinions into consideration. In a time when the Disney leadership treats its cast members like dirt, I heard that in his brief role of President of Walt Disney World, he made major gains in adding new Cast Member break spaces. As President of Disneyland Resort, he also made large strides in diplomatically repairing some of the relations between the company and the city of Anaheim. I disagree with what he often parrots, but I again also think that it's a diplomatic play. He can only be a huge improvement for the company should he find himself as CEO.

I'm not big on speculation, however after watching Bob Chapek for a while now and reading the constant stream of negativity about him, some of which he brings upon himself, I'm pretty confident in saying that I don't think he will be at the helm much longer. My gut instinct tells me this and he just isn't a good fit for the job, imho. I also feel Iger knows this, has for sometime now, and realizes that this latest snafu is truly the beginning to the end. In all honesty, it's probably further along then that.

I think they will leave him in charge for a long time. Let it all BURN!!!! Then we can fire him and say we are saving Disney, we will improve the parks, we will make great movies again with original stories........ Fool me once!

Probably. But I do think Disney is very deliberate and they do know what they are going to do (not that it necessarily seems that way).

It certainly doesn't. That really reactionary "Scar-Jo is taking advantage of the pandemic!" is shockingly out-of-character for the often vague and tailored statements that company often puts out. It's very obviously hypocritical to a lot of people who've noticed that Disney benefited from the pandemic in using it as an excuse to lay the groundwork for more large-scale grifting of the park guests. I imagine that the new Disneyland version of their passholder program will be a poorly conceived and extremely transparent attempt at raising prices with far less benefit. The new fastpass system at Disneyland Paris should also be extremely concerning. It also seems that the pandemic was a nice excuse to cut all but the cheapest streetmosphere.

It's wonderful isn't it. With the UNPRECEDENTED DEMAND and the revenue coming in from the over priced After Hour events why would they get rid of Chapek. It seems to me it's the people on these boards that want Chapek gone.

I think its more of the FEAR of his reputation preceding him and the Fear of what more damage will be done.
