All things that are the Holidays at the Disneyland Resort for 2011. Yes it might seem early but the decorations in New Orleans Square got me excited. :)

Looks like New Orleans Square is getting new decorations this year. Still a work in progress but its always nice to see them updated.

And now a new Christmas offering coming to DCA this year, via today's rumor from Miceage.com!

EDITOR'S NOTE 10/21-22: Just in case you were wondering; The recent World of Color testing has been for a new Christmas pre-show themed to ABC's Prep & Landing. The clever segment will begin performing prior to every World of Color on November 11th, and continue through the holidays. - Al Lutz

World of Color
The Prep and Landing tag is official, although Im not sure how long its been sitting on the official site, regardless great to see another addition to World of Color

http://disneyland.disney.go.com/events/holidays/ (under the Attractions and Entertainment tab)
World of Color- Breathtaking artistry, innovative storytelling and brilliant effects come together to create World of Color, the nighttime water spectacular at Disney California Adventure Park. Plus, be ready to experience the magic of Kringle Academy elves, Lenny and Wayne — from Disney Prep & Landing — as they prepare for the arrival of the Big Guy!

The Magic, The Memories, and You!
Apparently this show is still playing... but looks like it will be reciving some holiday additions.

http://www.wdwmagic.com/Attractions...ing-to-'The-Magic,-The-Memories-and-You!'.htm
Disneyland's version of 'The Magic, The Memories and You!" will also receive a holiday addition, beginning in mid-November.

Hopefully they still show the other little show every 15 mins as well. DL is sure making great use of those projectors, "snow shows", every 15 min shows, Believe/White Christmas snow fall, and now this.

New Orleans Square-
New Orleans Square continues to get its new Christmas decorations. I wonder if these decorations will have a dual purpose in that they will keep them up through Mardi Gras... and maybe we can have a full return of Tiana's Showboat Jubilee the small land version was nice but nothing like the full on show....:o

Woo hoo!

This all sounds/looks great!
I can't wait to experience Holidays at DLR for the first time ever this year (I've enjoyed many Holiday seasons at WDW).

One question: is this the norm to have Holiday decorations "on-stage" before Halloween? If I'm not mistaken, WDW Holiday stuff doesn't go up until after Halloween (with the exception of Osborne Lights and the Castle Icicle Lights) - nevertheless, those aren't illuminated until the Holiday festivities officially start.

Can't wait! :xmas:

I'm sure your going to have a great time!

Usually New Orleans Square is the first to be fully decorated before Halloween. The Castle is also decorated before Halloween with the snow turrets but no icicles so its ready for the parade taping(rumored Nov 4-6). The icicles appear later.

Edit-
I guess it "snowed" last night at Disneyland, the first of the snow turrets have gone up.

This is the norm, but it's done quite strategically.

There is so much decoration that needs to go up in Disneyland, far more than they do at Magic Kingdom Park at WDW, that they start with these surgical strikes in late October that aren't quite blatantly Christmas enough to take away from the HalloweenTime vibe now.

They also don't start lighting the lights they have up until November 11th, but the lights will sit there on the buildings (Small World, landscaping in the Hub, etc.) until then, and for the most part no one even notices the lights up now (except for Disney fans on Internet photo safaris with good cameras).

The Christmas tree in the Court of Angels in New Orleans Square is part of the specific Christmas ornaments shop, and the courtyard behind the shop has merchandise carts pushed out into it and the shop space expands out into that courtyard during the ramp-up to Christmas. Thus, as a specific Christmas ornament shop it's kind of understandable why there would be a tree and garlands there, although it's hard to get that just from the pictures here.

Similarly, the rest of the decorations they have put up so far in New Orleans Square aren't blatantly Christmasy yet. They'll save the more blatant and obvious Christmas stuff until after Halloween, and it will fill in the gaps on the less blatant New Orleans themed decs going up now.

But the big stuff; the Christmas tree on Main Street, the garlands hanging from buildings, the decorations in Frontierland and Toontown and New Orleans Square and Critter Country; all of that waits until after Halloween, and then it will be done and ready to be turned on by the official first day of the holidays; November 11th.

(And November 11th is still too early for me to get in the Christmas spirit, but at least it's 10 days after Halloween! )

Thanks all for the replies and explanations.

I guess one other big difference between the two parks is that WDW's Christmas Parade taping ususally occurs during the first week of Dec., giving them an additional month to get everything in place.
Geesh - with a 'rumored' Nov. 4th-ish taping, that's really quick after Halloween!
Any particular reason they do it so early?
I did notice while planning our trip that DLR seems to be in a rather busy season from Halloween right up until Christmas, whereas WDW is usually in a "lull" (according to the Season calendar, at least) between Thanksgiving and Christmas - makes it easier to film when the property's not packed to the gills, I'm sure. With DLR's busy season right on through, it seems there's no waiting until the peak in Dec.!

And TP2000, Nov. 11 is just fine with me for kicking off the holiday festivities! (Heck, we often have "Christmas in July", or any month with a little "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" - I can never get enough of that!)

Thanks again!

I think the early taping has a lot to do with the Christmas tree and garlands across Main Street. As both get in the way of parade taping. With both factored out they can tape with no height restrictions(for the balloons and flags(I wonder if Soundsational will have any spots this year)), and use "Christmas tree point" for the stage and cameras.

So once the taping is all said and done, Main Street is ready for the tree and garland(with out having to be removed). It tends to work out so the tree is on display for the whole season unlike MK where its only out after the taping. DL's tree and garland play a pretty part of the "snow shows" and Believe.

Actually, MK installs, removes, then reinstalls the garland across Main Street to accomodate the taping.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, the tree does go up before the taping - it is either initially erected or temporarily relocated adjacent the hub during the taping and then returned to its final location in the MSUSA entrance circle.

Sorry I was mainly talking about the tree, but it seems over the past few years the tree is no longer in the Rose garden but just sits backstage at Holiday Services waiting for its day to move to Town Square :(

Speaking of Christmas trees I finally found the picture but the tree is sitting backstage now.

New Orleans Square got even more, I believe its suppose to be complete by Fri(Oct 28) and I think same date for Critter Country.
http://www.mousewait.com/disneyland/talk/272026/Its-Christmas-in-New-Orleans-Square

Not sure if this is true but Candlelight Processional will be held on the weekend on Dec 3 & 4.

No picture but the castle now has most of the turrets covered in "snow"

Edit-
A great look at the decorations in the Court of Angels.

Some more tantalizing info from Al Lutz on Miceage.com today about this year's Christmas pre-show for World of Color, and then a rumored full show in 2012.

One final note today: As mentioned in an Editors Note last week, a new two minute long Christmas pre-show will be arriving at World of Color on November 11th using the Prep & Landing Elf characters. But don't think TDA has given up on the full-fledged Christmas show for World of Color. That concept is so promising, and both Steve Davison and TDA's executives are so excited about its prospects, that it's now been slotted in for a debut next holiday season as part of DCA's huge relaunch. (All those color lights! Maybe we can hope for a massive aluminum Christmas tree!)
We'll have more in next Tuesday's update about that massive relaunch strategy running through 2013, and how TDA plans to re-introduce DCA and the entire Resort to varying customer demographics from Texas to Australia. - Al

Went to the Halloween Party last night completely surprised to find snow all over the castle with the Halloween decorations all around. NOS also had a lot of their new decor up (looks great) and lights on around the Cafe/Pirates area. Can't wait for the season to begin. :xmas:

Thanks for the info! Two holidays really do collide at DL.

Not new decorations but a look back at 1999, and 2000.

1999 was the first year New Orleans Square and Toontown received Christmas decorations.

An official press release for the holidays has been released
http://disneylandnews.com/2011/11/0...esort-celebrates-the-season-beginning-nov-14/

A quick sum of the release of the new offerings/decorations for this year. The usual decorations, entertainment and attractions are listed on the press release(Haunted Mansion Holiday, it's a small world holiday, Santa's Reindeer Roundup, Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle, Believe...In Holiday Magic, A Christmas Fantasy Parade, etc...)

The Magic, The Memories and You!
Those holiday memories might even appear in the nightly “The Magic, The Memories, and You!” show on the façade of “it’s a small world” in Disneyland park. A new segment of the show, specially added for the season, features a musical score filled with favorite holiday tunes and images of resort guests celebrating their holiday visits. As the presentation unfolds, the façade of “it’s a small world” Holiday is frozen in ice, decorated with wreaths and candy canes, wrapped in Christmas paper, and even turned into a giant snow globe. This new segment appears in “The Magic, The Memories and You!” beginning Friday, Nov. 18.

ToonTown
Nearby, in Mickey’s Toontown, the centerpiece of the new holiday décor is an 18-foot cartoon-style Christmas tree in front of Toontown City Hall. Sculpted garlands and wreaths adorn the Toontown gazebo and add holiday cheer to the Gag Warehouse. The personal Christmas trees in the front yards of Mickey’s and Minnie’s houses also carry the “toon” theme.

World of Color
This holiday season, Lanny and Wayne, Santa’s techno-savvy elves from the “Prep & Landing” holiday specials, appear in a “World of Color” sequence.

The Little Mermaid/Paradise Garden Grill and Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta
The park’s newest attraction, The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, is specially decorated for the holidays, along with its Paradise Pier neighbors, the Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta and Paradise Garden Grill restaurants.

The Disney Gallery
At The Disney Gallery on Main Street, U.S.A., in Disneyland, a display of vintage and new art celebrating Walt Disney’s love of railroading will premiere during the holiday season. “All Aboard for A Grand Circle Tour of the Trains of Disney!” will survey Disney trains from the classic Disneyland Railroad to such historic routes as Nature’s Wonderland and the Carolwood-Pacific circuit that operated in Disney’s backyard in Holmby Hills, California.

Taking a break for the decorations, that are still going up around the parks. This weekend is the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade taping.

Great coverage of yesterdays parade segments can be found here.
http://www.mouseinfo.com/forums/con...disney-parks-christmas-day-parade-taping.html

Soundsational looks even better with more cast members for each unit. They basically doubled the dancers for each and the princes are with the princesses. I'm surprised they didn't use Mary Poppins unit.

A great video of the parade segments.
