Jonnie, there is a bakery in New Orleans that you can order a King cake from for Mardi Gras. I saw it on Food Channel (do I ever watch anything else? ) and I cant remember the name of it. I was going to ask you

Gambinos, Haydels, Lawrences, and Randazzos, as well as every major grocery store ship next day. If you would like the toll free numbers, I would more than happy to find them for you! Also, the filled king cakes are delicious. Try the strawberry and cream cheese.
I made 75 to 100 kingcakes a day for 20 years (during Carnival season; 200 a day, the final 5 days of Carnival). I can still roll them out in my sleep:rolleyes: . At least I don't have to hear "Is this fresh?" "OOO, I want the freshest one", "where's the baby?"anymore. Not music to a bakers' ear when I got up at 3am to 'make the donuts' and bake the kingcakes.

Truthfully, I'm more of a plain king cake kind of guy. Randazzo's is the rage in Slidell, but I'm not too fond of it, myself. I've also never had a homemade one! :p

Everyone else seems to like Randazzos... and I think they're excellent. I just prefer others, that's all.

A topless tree on a Disney board?

Obviously you have confused this with a Miramax fan board.... :lookaroun :zipit:

I enjoy Gambinos and try to send one to my girlfriend (a Disney fan like us!) every year. I've never tried Haydels, but they seem to do more TV advertising than the others. Haydels also has a collectible doll. Remember that if you do have one shipped; that the baby will most likely not be in the cake. I know we were forbidden to insert them due to ......taa daa.....lawsuits. Also if you want one, remember they usually only ship Monday thru Thursday. and if you live in the sticks where next day isn't available, it has to be shipped by Wednesday.
Alot of people like Randazzos but the company was torn by a family rift so I have no idea who's Randazzo is who's.
Gambinos also makes Doberge cake, the best Red Velvet. My husband usually gets one of these for my b-day in January (which instantly blows the New Years Resolution)

Looks like I’m the Bah Humbug of the board then. I’m happy to see the back of Christmas. I spent a few years in retail, two of them at Dixons (a big UK chain of electrical and electronic retailers famed for fake deals and rip-off extended warranties). My Christmas experience was dented by seeing how selfish and fowl tempered the public get in the lead up to Christmas (at least in England). The amount of abuse I received throughout December belies belief.

Also, tinsel and The Christmas Hits Comilation tape get very dreary when you have to put up with them constantly for two months.

After that I went into the greeting card industry and so Christmas became just a major source of income that occupied most of the year.

When I lost my faith there was nothing left. Other than a few days off work and eating far too much food at my parents house….So it’s not all bad.

So, if you want to avoid the Post-Xmas blues, become a miserable git like me. ;)

Christmas is a horrible time to be in retail. (as is working in nursing homes...both of which I've done).

Any holiday is as good or as bad as you make it.

Whatever works for you is the way to go.
