Hmm... Bears?

Interesting thread. Thinking about it, I think an American land for Animal Kingdom (maybe a more nature-focused take on Frontierland) may have even more possibilities than the Australia concept that gets tossed around here so much.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Why has the idea of an American land not been suggested? That's a question that would be interesting to work on.

Bring on the Bears, Wolves, Bison, Moose, Armadillo, Red Fox, Coyotes, Bald Eagles, Wild Mustangs (would they still be considered wild if exhibited though), Pheasants, Cougars, etc. This sounds cool if they put in the theaming effort that the rest of animal kingdom exhibits have.

Pheasants are Chinese - yeah, I know they are everywhere now - I still hunt them from time to time, but they are from China.

They could have wild turkeys instead.

I thought about this too. I would like to see them do a Pochahontas attraction with said North American Animals. It could be a Canoe ride thru the wilderness and you could see animals along the way. I would love to see that. When I worked at AK I often got a chance to go backstage to visit the animals in their barns. I had a friend that used to work with the animals for the Pochahontas show. I would stop by some days with my trainees for a quick visit. My trainees would always thank me for that. We loved it!

I guess it's possible, but since bears can be seen anywhere, I kinda like the more exotic animals that are residing in DAK.

And yes, they are in a controlled area, but nothing like a cage or building that is blocking out the rest of nature. Not the same. I think that the view of the world to an animal consists of what they see, not what might be out there. The expanse of the area that they are "confined" too is far less restrictive then a cage. I doubt that any animal has the ability to realize that they are confined in such an open outside environment.

I think that expanding Camp Minnie-Mickey to include more North American animals is a great idea (assuming that Avatarland will never come to be, fingers crossed!). I am sure the Florida heat is not as big of an issue as you may think. There are plenty of places where animals function just fine in non-native climates. One of the biggest draws at the St. Louis Zoo is the polar bears. They frolic and play all summer long in the 100+ heat and humidity.

One of the DAK execs promised many years ago that they would never have bears in the park. They didn't want them because they tend to pace.

I agree with the OP that a North American area would be wonderful. Even a new exhibit in Asia or around the Tree of Life would be nice. Anything at all would be nice.

They pace? I'm not really following the logic there...

They have Brown Bears at Silver Springs.

OK, then I don't know why. I'm trying to stretch my mind right now in an effort to identify any animals that are in DAK that are indigenous to this continent. I can't think of any...perhaps others can. So I will go with that for lack of a better explanation.:)
