Hitchhiking Ghosts not functioning properly?

I rode HM twice this past week, once on Thurs afternoon and once Sunday morning, and both times the Hitchhiking Ghosts effect seemed really off. It appeared as if the lighting on the mirrors was too bright. I could barely see the reflection of myself or the buggies, all I saw was somewhat washed-out looking ghosts floating in front of me. I remember this effect being much better on my last visit.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Yeah, I was there 10/18 and noticed it.

Are we talking Hatbox ghost? That's the only rumored addition I remember, but I thought that would be elsewhere in the attraction. I'd love to see it...

If the Haunted Mansion movie produced by Guillermo del Toro ever goes in production you might see the Hatbox ghost being added. But the film is still having several issues at hand, so I wouldn't expect anything soon. At this point I don't have any high hopes of the movie moving forward since it was announced in 2010 and haven't seen much more details about it besides they are still looking for a writer 3 years later.

All I heard is that uses a cool new feature of the Magic Bands. As for guest without a band, my source does not know that side of the plan. Completion date is still unknown.

Maybe it's just the FP+ queue, it takes you right onto the doombuggy? If you want to see the stretch room, you have to put up with the interactive standby queue.
No the FP+ line takes you to the cemetery and front doors. It only by passes the interactive area of the standby que.

Just wow. Show quality anyone? Or not enough capacity elsewhere to take the ride out?

If they had CMs out front saying you can go on it but the stretching room does not work, how many do you think would still go on it.

If the CMs were out front and said well you could go on it but we decided you can't because the stretch room isn't working, how many guests would you thing would be upset that the CMs decided you couldn't go out it even though the rest of the 98% is working.

My wow would be on the CMs that tell me I can't ride.

On a serious note, you cannot do that at this time. Ride photos have to still be put on a photopass card. It is in the FAQ of the photopass web page.

This is not accurate as of October 6. I was able to put any and all ride and park pictures directly on my Magic Band without any Photopass card. Those pictures then appeared on a new website for Photopass Plus. MyDisneyPhotoPass.com is the new website, as of September 4.

Well, since the CMs don't make those decisions, your wow would be on the wrong person.

In my opinion, without the stretching room you are missing a large chunk of the story. Running the mansion without the room working would turn it from a state of the art ride to something like Mermaid where portions of the story aren't there. (That's an extreme comparison.)

Yes I was there from 12 - 20 Oct. The effect is BROKEN!!!! The front screen that is supposed to show the people in the buggy is dead, not working, nana. You clearly see the large plasma/led screens that project the ghosts. VERY VERY BAD SHOW FOR DISNEY!!!!! Guess they needed the maintenance money for MM+, FP+ and MB's, because $2 billion wasn't enough. The whole "PLUS" stuff is going to be useless if they have nothing working in the parks to attract customers.

The effect has never been that great. At its best, it's much less convincing than the original. TDO ought to rip it out and restore the old version. I have nothing against changes and refurbs if they IMPROVE on the original. The new Hitchhiking Ghosts is no improvement. Just a fail.

Interesting, because when we tried to do it 12Oct13 to 20Oct13, they said they could not link it to the photopass+. They gave us a phone number to call, and we were also informed from them (them being the photopass experts) that yes this was the case, that ride pictures have to still be put on the photopass card. They then directed us to the https://mydisneyphotopass.disney.go.com/help-and-support/faq/ to read the question
"If everyone gets a MagicBand, how will the photographers know that I bought this package?" and the answer "Disney PhotoPass photographers will scan all MagicBand(s) just like a Disney PhotoPass card. You will still need to show your Disney PhotoPass+ card to receive your select Attraction and Dining photos. Attraction and Dining locations will still validate the expiration date of your Disney PhotoPass+ card before associating your photos to your Disney PhotoPass card."

I haven't experienced the new projection effect. The last time I went it was the mirrors with the dummies, and man was that nifty. I miss that, and HM is my #1 reason for going to WDW, so hopefully this won't become like the Yeti...if so, they can expect a lengthy composition explaining what they should be doing with their money.

Maybe they're not supposed to, but on our recent trip we got to AK and had FP's for Everest, etc... so we decided to go to Dinosaur first. We got there and the ride was still down. A CM came out to talk with the original CM several times over the next 20 minutes and she (loudly) explained to him that the control mechanism for the ride was malfunctioning. When the guest in front of me asked what that meant she said that the power was out to that control stand, but that it should be restored soon. Why they couldn;t run the other side only while that side was being looked at stumped me, but they did not let any of us ride right away. It was 9:25am before we got on the ride.

Same with most things at Disney now, plussing for plussings sake. Either make the original better, or just don't bother!

Unfortunately, just got off HM and the hitchhiking ghosts are back in "B" mode. Had the same thing on Monday when we rode. Little disappointed by that. The back up mode is very lame with the screens quite visible.

I once saw the old way not work with the ghosts just stationary. That was also kind of weird.

I wonder why this is taking so long to fix.
Does the new effect even have any moving parts? Isn't it just a computer and a couple of digital projectors.
