I am an orignal HHGG fan (back from the late 70's when my brother brought the books back from England.)

However being such a long time fan I have too much of an opinon in my head of how it should be and I have some serious concerns about their casting choices. I don't think I will ever be able to acept a black american Fod. That just isn't right. Not enought acents. Part of the humor is in the acents. Oh well, I still we see it, but I am sepctial at this point. Clasic case of just knowing too much. If I didn't know most of the BBC radio scripts by heart I might enjoy it more. :lookaroun

first of all, it is a seriously bad thing to consider Mos Def a bad choice just because he is black. I mean people say they are not prejudice and stuff like this happens and it ends up showing itself up. honestly, who cares. And who cares if the actors are of a different nationality. Ford is a freakin alien. He doesn't need a british accent or anything as well as all the other aliens. I mean does the babelfish just decide to translate everything to a british accent?

Second, each version was made different for a reason. It mainly has to do for the fact that Douglas Adams really knows but it is fun nonetheless.

Third, on the roll of actors, Adams stated the only person that has to be british is Arthur.

Actually my problem isn't that he is black, but American (most importantly not British). I would have the same complant if he was Japanize or Idian. Not what expect him to be. I also don't like the 2 head being gone from Zaphod. Heck, that is what this show now is supossed to be about, good speical effects. (and it wasn't in the 80's :p )

It apears the only person that is British is Arthur, and it just isn't as much fun.

Marvin the anroid isn't as BIG as I think he should be, or depressed looking for that mater.

Heck, Trillian isn't even blond. I just don't seem right. :lookaroun

However I guess I will have to wait and see when the movie comes out. For now I am a little concerned.

Actually Zaphod does have 2 heads in the movie, he also has 3 arms.

I suppose they explain that somewhere in the movie, but in most of the trailers he doesn't. (this was one of those things that worked out better in the raido shows.) I guess I should be happy at least the "book" is British. I always think "and Peter Jones as "the Book".

It should be intersting. I guess it is like the member who thinks Cindarellabation is very bad since it isn't as good as the TDL verson. (sorry I forget of the top of my head who that is.) For the rest of us who hasn't seen the TDL one in person (and most likely never will) it isn't too bad.

Growing up in my family HHG was kind of a strange way of life for us (that and Monty Pythons Holy Grail, along with Princess Bride.)

Good job Douglas Adams wrote a new story for it then :D Just as the books and radio shows went their different ways, so will the film. I'd not want them to do a big budget remake of what has gone before.

I agree about the casting of an American as Ford. But I guess in this version he will never have claimed to be from Guildford at any point

Nice to see the original Arthur Dent has a cameo in it. Good casting with Stephen Fry as The Book, Bill Baily as the Whale (I don't know if he has made any impact in America, he's a very funny comedian musician).

I think the new look Marvin will grow on me, good talent in the suit (Warwick Davis) and of course Alan Rickman as his voice has got to be good.

I did not think much of the original trailer, but the one that mocks movie trailers has made me want to see this film, rather than decide just to see it out of curiosity.

Sadly Peter Jones is no longer with us, but he was working right up to the end.

I have been a long time fan of Hitch Hikers too - from the TV show, radio series and books. If you enjoy Douglas Adams, I have to ask if you have tried reading Terry Pratchett? Another great British author is Jasper Fforde, he is well worth a look.

And Princess Bride is brilliant :D

That is sad, when did he die? I havnet read those, I will google them and see what I can find, always looking for new books.

That is too funny, (about not being from Guidford)

I wasn't ablet to get that trailler to play right on my computer, only the sound, but it did sound good.

The first trailer shows Zaphod's second head. his main head pops back adn reveals the second one underneath.

Adams always wanted every version of the seris different. And it is. The movie is the same but isn't from the book and so forth.

can'r wait. comes out the day before we go ont he cruise ^_^

It actually comes out the day we leave for WDW, since we are going as a family with no extras to baby sit I am guessing we won't be able to see it until mid may or so. :brick: I am not paying a baby sitter $80 to wacth my kids while at WDW so I can see a movie! (maybe so we could eat at Califorina Grill, but that is a different story.) :lookaroun

Of course by time we get to seeing it the reviews will be out and the "numbers" will be in.

Marvin is much better than the miniseries.... (his head is roung this time..)

and Trillian is not suppost to be blonde in the film.. she wasn't described like that in the book..... (changed it for um.. good reasons in the miniseries..)

For someone like me who has never read HHG, but always wanted to as a kid, is there a certain 'version' or "edition' that I need to read to be "in the loop"?

Also, if I only read the 1st book, will I essentially know everything about the movie?

FYI, the trailer that mocked movies was freakin' hilarious. :D :D :D

The smart thing to do is to follow up on more than 1 version of the Hitchhiker's guide or you will be expecting everything to be exactly like in that one thing.

I would say it would be best to read the radio scripts and the books before seeing the movie because that gives no vision on what the characters really look like. If you don't care, pick up the mini-series on DVD.

For me. I knew there was the books in which my brother read but I didn't read them and eventually we bought the miniseries and it was awsome. I so ended up reading the books that by now, I have read so many times it is funny. I also played the videogame but text-adventure games are hard to play.

I can't wait to see the movie though. I do think though it would probably do much better if it opened this weekend because of the juggernaut called Star Wars.
