Hilarious Magicband Incident

Maybe the MagicBand had decided the woman's meal choices were inappropriate, and as a service to her, tried to dissuade her from purchasing them (MagicBand Undocumented Feature #478).

More likely it decided her meal was not expensive enough and felt that her income per capita was not on target with what marketing said it should be to recoup the expense of the "banding project" as I like to call it.

So yesterday I was at Pop and the lady in front of me was using her Magicband to pay for her meals, and the thingie will not light up for some reason. The line was sort of long and the cashier got frustrated. After staring at the reader for about 10 seconds, he proceeded to shake the reader and then tried it, and still failed. He then blew on the reader, and then started to punch several numbers in succession.

The lady was also frustrated, so she told the cashier that she can pay cash, but the cashier still insisted on troubleshooting the issue. He asked the lady to remove the Magicband, and she complied. He took the Magicband and started to shake it and then tried it on the reader, and it still did not work.

Finally he wore the Magicband, and tried it again, and still did not work, and he was going to call the manager but the lady realized that she was holding everyone up and told him not to worry about it. She paid in cash and the cashier seemed extremely peeved.

I guess they are required to do everything possible to make sure the Magicband works. I'm glad they gave up as I was getting impatient!
It always amuses me when people try to "shake" or "hit" things to make electrons flow. But the better ones, are at the self checkout lanes and believe that pushing the items bar code into the scanners glass will make the laser read work better.

That's odd. When I did the test I was specifically told to carry my Key to the World Card as well. And, there were a few places where the readers were not working, and I was immediately asked to present the KTTW or some other form of payment.

Sounds to me like just a cashier acting goofy.
They have removed the KTTW card part of the test now. Now you only get a band or KTTW card, not both.

You still get both. Not everywhere has been changed over to the touch devices yet (mainly TS restaurants an bars). The KTTW cards are also a failsafe if the band is having issues.

That being said, although it seems from afar that there are a lot of problems but I can tell you that a majority of guests are using the bands without any major issues that would cause a disruption in their vacation.

When did they do that? I was part of the test group not even 10 days ago... (August 2nd and 3rd)
The CM that helped you must not have read the memo or missed the training session.

Yep and 60 or 70 percent of all statistics are made up. Including this one.....

One Little Spark...

Possibly. It was the iPad check in guy who met us off of the Magical Express and it was also repeated by the lady who was working the Atrium Club level at Contemporary when I checked in there.

<shrug> I'd still carry both for the time being. Though, I don't have a choice right now...I am no longer in the test group as I'm at POFQ...

<sad>

Oh for heavens sake...Did they not read the instructions.....First the band must go on a wrist that doesn't have your watch on ( due to magnetic forces.) For example, your left hand..So then you put your left hand in,your left hand out,in out,in out,and shake it all about, you do the Mickey Mouse and you turn around, that's what it's all about..

If this was at Universal I would say this was a stunt by the Terminator attraction and would say that the Machines (MagicBand+) were rising against us humans...

Since it's a Disney...where's Wizard Mickey when you need him?

My cousin is at Pop this week and she loves her MagicBand. She has not had any problems with hers or her daughters. The only thing she is not looking forward to is seeing the bill at the end of her stay..

It's still testing...but on the other hand...as a former help desk tech...you don't know how many times I had to find a way to politely tell the person..."the reason your computer wasn't powering on...was because you didn't have it plugged in...."
