I'm a little less than halfway through it, and I've been sitting here on the couch laughing out loud at various parts of the book. Regardless of how you feel about some of the tactics used in the book, it's a fun read nonetheless. I'm really enjoying it!

Thanks for approving my other post, "The Mom"!

Maybe I will finish the rest during my family's Christmas eve party tonight...

Haha, perfect! Good luck explaining to Grandma why you're laughing!

One of the few books I go back and re-read. Always good for a laugh.

Wow, John, you've read it more than once?! I'm flattered - I know that there are only a few books in my library ("The Great Gatsby", "Catcher in the Rye", "American Psycho", "The Fountainhead" and maybe one or two more) that I re-read. It's an honor to be on someone else's re-read list!

Thanks, DisneyDiva! Yeah, if anyone ever sees a dude in a white suit who looks like George Hamilton, DO NOT GET INTO HIS CAR!

Glad you're enjoying it, Nick!

Okay, now it's back to work on the 2nd book!!!

That's extremely irritating. Nothing is more irksome than boards where the same people who never take part in any actual useful discussion are the ones able to drop in and tell people how to behave or what they can say. And when boards prevent other boards/sites from being linked to or even mentioned... well, that's the most petty, insecure nonsense imaginable.

Sorry, general rant there. This kind of nonsense irritates me. :)

Anyway, I've heard a lot of good things about the book. Hope I can check it out soon.

A board without moderators would be ... you ever read the posts on YouTube? GD's FU's abound

I believe there may have been some sarcasm there....

Didn't mean to stir up any turmoil. Looks like for the most part my posts are eventually getting through.... Just taking a while for some of them. Not sure why some need to be approved and some don't - might have something to do with "quoting"?

On that note (and this is just a general thought, not aimed at unkadug directly),

Selecting a message board to frequent is like choosing between the lesser of two evils. The contrast between various message boards is often as obvious as the contrast between political parties. Most of us (Americans) probably aren't in 100% agreement with any one candidate, but that doesn't mean that we are qualified (or have the resources) to run for office ourselves. So, we pick based on what is essentially the lesser of two evils.

I am drawn to THIS message board because there are members who have a wealth of knowledge and are willing to answer questions, engage in dialogue, etc. Have some of my comments been attacked by those who I refer to as "Disney disciples"? Yes. Does that bother me? No. When people offer negative criticisms, they are really saying more about themselves than the person whom they are criticizing.

Have I seen mods make what appear to be arbitrary edits that are not expressly backed by the terms of use? Absolutely. But within our own "real life" society we have also seen innocent people arbitrarily arrested, accused, and prosecuted for outright laughable reasons. Is it right? No. Do we have to put up with it? Pretty much. The resources available to me to start my own message board are the same as the resources available to me to move to a new geographic location if I don't like the laws or the enforcement tactics of my current locality; nonexistent.

So, for better or worse, WDWMAGIC is where it's at! :sohappy:

This will probably land me in hot water, but this board is no different than other boards. I love it to death, but there are Mods who have their favorites and those they don't like. I posted a completely innocent picture response the other day to someone, absolutely no worse than the one of Picard smacking his forehead that gets posted here constantly, and my pic was removed.

That being said, this board is much more tolerant than another board I could mention, but Mods are Mods, and they do indeed use their authority on ANY board against those they don't care for.

They are being blocked automatically. If a poster lets me know, or I happen to notice it myself (there is a symbol that appears, but I don't get any notification as I do when someone reports a post), I can unblock them.

And yes, it may be due to the multi-quoting. Linking directly to a commercial site seems to trigger it, as does multiple posts in the same thread/forum by a new poster, or multiple posts within a short time frame.

Read the book on my iphone (Nook app) last week on the Disney Dream. Classic stuff. Wish it was longer actually. I blazed through it pretty quick. Very funny. Need to got to your website and look at some more photos.

Question: are all the stories real? I mean some of them just seem like a story that a friend of a friend told you and you pass it along and at the end, your strolling down main street with a donkey and a sheep. Did someone really almost get into a fight with a hotel manager? Was there really something hidden in a certain fridge? Some of them just seem too unbelievable.

More specifically, I meant alcohol service in a dedicated bar. You know, a location set up primarily for the service of alcoholic drinks. I have seen "bars" at both EPCOT and HS, but I haven't seen one at AK. I must have missed it.

Dawa Bar in Africa next to the Tusker House is a dedicated bar at AK.

I believe in AK they have the "Dawa Bar"
I've never been because I spend as little time in AK as possible but I've heard good things about it.

Glad you liked the book! Definitely check out the website for my "continuing adventures"!

Yeah, the stories are real! Some of them were heard second-hand via CMs and some are older and have sort of become stuff of legend for me and my friends, so I imagine over the years I've embellished the details a bit.

The hotel manager fight was at an off-site hotel, not on Disney property. You can read through reviews on Tripadvisor and quickly get an idea of how many incompetent shift managers there are at some of these places.

I always thought the idea that someone would wash their dirty underwear in a coffee machine and admit to it on a Disney forum was maybe weirder than someone secretly storing used "somethings" in a fridge. But, yeah, if you ever get a chance to sit down with anyone who has worked in Housekeeping for a while (at Disney and even better, at Vegas), ask them for their best/worst guest horror story. People do some pretty weird stuff in hotel rooms and just leave the mess for Housekeeping to deal with.
