Hidden Oswald in FLE

Reminds me of the viral marketing for Epic Mickey 2 with the Man Who Sees Rabbits. The game itself also has a sidequest where someone wants you to photograph hidden Oswalds and Hidden Mickeys across Wasteland.

Perhaps someone should get some GPS coordinates for all these little things.

I remember every trip I took I looked for the "wedding ring" (old stanchion placement with a shim) at the Haunted Mansion, but never could find it. Then when they re-did the Mansion, they got rid of it.

Someone get a Garmin with a camera built in...whenever you take a pic it saves the coordinates as a waypoint.

Gah, I kinda wish it was too... But it took me so long to figure out what "NFL" was I thought that Kathy might not have known either! ... as to its precise location I haven't a clue as I've not been lucky enough to visit "NFL" yet!
Fair enough, actually. Folks who use acronyms without first using the full phrase at least once have always been a pet peeve of mine.

Ah, acronyms. Some of the operations people are calling it NFL. I don't remember when FLE came in, I've always known it as FLXP.

I actually saw that. My wife and I were searching the FLE for hidden mickey's, and we found this. However, neither of us connected it to Oswald, and were not sure what it was. Great find!

Actually when they redid the mansion they got rid of it and put a real ring (instead of a piece of a pole) in the ground. :) It's still there!

OK back to the topic at hand here. Does anyone else think this is pretty cool that there is a hidden Oswald that has been found. how many others if any are out there now?

Hopefully I'll be there come January (fingers crossed for me!) and I'll check some of the newer areas and see if I spot any.

Sorry I keep digging up old threads (there is so much I have missed lately!) but this makes me SO happy, and to have it outside of the new Belle area makes it a million times better! I can take two of my favorite characters and have them in one spot, now I can just never leave Fantasyland. Except I do love that ToT...

I know, my first reaction was "How on earth does Oswald tie into the National Football League??" Then I saw the picture and I was still confused. Then I'm like "Oh... I watch too much football."

Actually, strange as it may seem, there IS an NFL-Oswald connection, sort of. In 2006, as part of a multi-pronged deal that gave NBC-Universal the rights to Sunday Night football and broadcaster Al Michaels before his contract with ABC/ESPN was up, Disney acquired the rights to broadcast the Ryder Cup, extended olympics highlights and Notre Dame highlights on ESPN, and of course the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

As you may recall, Walt lost the rights to his creation in 1928 when he left Universal Studios with Ub Iwerks to form his own studio. Turns out that producer Charles Mintz felt like given the recent economic turmoil that Disney was making too much money and was cutting his salary by 20%. Of course, Walt didn't like that so he left the studio and took Uwerks with him. Unfortunately, he had already sold the rights for Oswald to Universal, so he had to start fresh, and of course, the result was Mickey and Steamboat Willie. Walt is reportedly to have said at the time that the reason he was starting his own studio is that he never wanted to lose his creations to another person again. Interestingly enough, Oswald and Mickey have virtually the same face, minus the ears, try it yourself at home if you don't believe me!

Another bit of trivia regarding this deal comes from Al Michaels himself. He had a great quote about it, as the NY Jets and KC Chiefs had made a deal regarding swapping a coach for a 4th round draft pick at around the same time, "Oswald is definitely worth more than a fourth-round draft choice. I'm going to be a trivia answer someday."

And indeed you are, Al Michaels. :)
