Hi Everyone ! I never ever thought it would be possible for us to visit Walt Disney World... however... I was blessed by winning a trip for 8 !

I need to let the Disney rep know which Deluxe Hotels are my top 3 choices... Anyone have any suggestions... if price was not a factor? Animal Kingdom Lodge, Beach Club, Contemporary, etc... ????

Also since this might be are only trip to WDW we would like to make it very remarkable for all of us... Anything you can think of 'extra' that we should maybe do ? *hoop-dee-doo revue, etc..?*

Thanks Bunches !!!

I would suggest also that you talk to Kingdom Konsultant here on the boards. If you already know who the 8 you are taking will be, then Kingdom Konsultant can give you some fantastic reccommendations for what the group would like.

What a wonderful problem to have! I think that whatever choice you make you will be very happy with it. I personally would go with the Contemporary, just because the idea of a monorail going through the hotel is so neat.

You all are just AMAZING !!! Thank you soo much for all of your suggestions !!!

It is a Magical Gathering Trip for 8 through Mc'Donalds. It was the sweepstakes they had going when the introduced the Chicken Selects. Just like the Monopoly contests they have with the pull-off game pieces. The game pieces had 8 digit codes to enter online.

We have the dates of when we would like to go... the problem I have still is the hotel accomodations :veryconfu All of the resorts just look sooo amazing !!! We are traveling with some young ones... so the Monorail hotels seem very convient however the Animal Kingdom Lodge seems spectacular too but I am just concerned on the extra time it takes to use their shuttle service to the theme parks. Im off to go look into some of the resorts that you all suggested... had not thought of the Polly...so Im gonna take a lookie-loo at that one too now! Too many choices !!! :sohappy:
For with the Little ones I Am assuming that the focus will be on the Magic Kingdom, so I am going to throw my vote with the Polynesian as well. I like this particular resort, it is on the monorail line, so much to see and explore, not quite as posh as the Grand Floridian but that is part of what I like about it. It is a very unique resort. Flora and fauna are everywhere the mail pool area looks incredible etc. As a number two, I would go with AKL specifically Savannah View. This was voted as one of the top 5 hotels in the world that the kids would love!!! The survey was done by Fodor's and you dont get much better than that. Dont worry about the shuttles to and from the park. It really isnt a big deal. I never really notice how long I AM on a shuttle and I dont think it has ever topped 20 minutes anyhow!!! Tomorrow morning when I am more awake Ill try to put something together in terms of a must see list!!! Congratulations again!!! Belle

If it were me I would stick with the hotels on the monorail line. If the kids want to see animals they can go to Animal Kingdom (the park).

IMO if this is your first (and possibly last) trip to Disney the kids are going to want to be out enjoying the parks not hanging around the hotel to look at the animals. I also wouldn't want to waste the time going to and from AKL (it is a long haul).

Good Luck with whatever you choose!

We've stayed at all 3 monorail hotels. Poly is our hands down fav with the Contemporary a close second. From the Poly beach you can watch the fireworks directly over the castle. From the other two, the fireworks are off to the side due to your angle. The Poly is quieter than the Contemporary and not as stuffy as the GF. The GF was wonderful, though we felt there was a slightly older crowd who stayed there then the crowd at the Poly. As far as the monorail goes, the resort monorail stops in this order:
Starting at the MK - Contemporary, TTC, Poly, GF, MK.

If you are at the Contemporary, it can take between 15 and 20 minutes to get to the MK via monorail (not including the wait time for monorail to arrive)which is why we will walk there when we are in a hurry to get going.

The GF is nice because it is only one stop away from the MK.

The Poly is the halfway point and very convenient.

Our fav thing to do it take the monorail in the morning from the Poly (Aloha and welcome aboard) and the the boat back.

Congrats on your trip. I echo the book idea, Birnbaum's Official and the Unofficial Guides are probably the most informative.

I don't agree at all.

Big difference here. The ride that allows you to see the animals at AK only allows you a few min to see them. At AKL you have all day and night to watch them.

IMO if this is your first (and possibly last) trip to Disney the kids are going to want to be out enjoying the parks not hanging around the hotel to look at the animals. I also wouldn't want to waste the time going to and from AKL (it is a long haul).

It's not a "long haul" at all. Look in my sig below, you'll see the bus times. Not bad at all. ANd compaired to other resorts, it not that much different. MK being the furthest, but then again, MK resorts are just as far from AK.

And I personally try to stay away from the monorails as much as possiable. They are crowded, they take forever to get on during busy times at the park, and they always have that unpleasant "people" oder about them when I get on. Thanks, but no thanks, I'll take the busses. I can walk out of MK at closing and get right on my AKL bus, or maybe have to wait for a second one, but I am back in my room within 20 min or so. Or stand in a line of like 500+ people crowding into the monorail line to get to the Poly or GF. Take about the same time, but I had to stand the whole time.

If it's anything you decide to make your choice on a hotel, choose it for the views. A beautiful view of the castle or of a savanna, but not for the transpertation. If you are planning to visit more than the MK and Epcot, the monorail isn't gonna get you everywhere.

Congrats on winning, and have fun!

First, congratulations on winning!

I know you've received a plethora of advice, but here's my opinion...

The Polynesian >> Ah, what can I say? It's beautiful, the rooms are large, it has great views, and it's in a fabulous location. The Poly is also one of the few deluxe resorts with a broad appeal to all ages: its tropical setting is both fun for children and romantic for adults. It has a great dinner show, but you don't have to stay there to enjoy it. As others pointed out, it's close to FW (Hoop-De-Doo), the MK and Epcot (monorail), and various other recreational activities (e.g. boating). One of my favorite reviews of the Poly comes from an old Conde Naste magazine: "It's more tiki than tacky."

The Grand Floridian >> Disney hypes it enough for you to know that it's their flagship resort. In reality, the Grand Floridian exceeds that hype; it's gorgeous. I have personally never slept there (but will soon :sohappy: ), but I have been told that the biggest difference between the GF and the Poly (besides their theming) is that the standard rooms are slightly larger at the Poly. Of course, you probably won't be in a standard room. The Poly definitely wins for location, too; and it's more kid-friendly than the GF. Still, the restaurants, spa, and atmosphere set the GF in its own niche--frankly, I consider it to be Disney's only ultra-deluxe hotel! For me, it's a tie between the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian.

The Contemporary >> It looks nice. It's expensive. But it's outdated, moldy, and loud. Really, really loud. Between the music at the pool and Chef Mickey's in the lobby, the only way to enjoy quiet is to get a garden wing...and then you're not staying in the main tower, which defeats the purpose of sleeping at the Contemporary! As for location, you simply cannot get closer to the MK than this. Although the monorail passes through the lobby, it's faster to walk to the MK, anyway. Regarding the pool and other recreation, the pool is pretty pathetic, especially when compared to those at the GF and the Poly. The recreation is virtually identical to the other resorts, too, with the exception of parasailing; and you don't have to stay at the resort to do that. Frankly, I'd stay somewhere else.

Since I've never set foot inside AK Lodge, I won't review it. However, from all indications and other people's reviews, it looks and sounds like a fabulous resort. Just the same, it's basically located on the far fringe of WDW; and all transportation is by bus. If you're going to stay at a deluxe resort, you might as well stay on the monorail line, even though they do get crowded.

If I were you, I'd stay at either the Polynesian or the Grand Floridian. Their locations simply can't be topped; and you'll spend more time at the MK and Epcot than you will at AK!

Just from personal experience I thought I'd add this... when I was between the ages of 7-10 my family managed to stay at each of the monorail resorts in turn... and I have to say that the one that sticks in my mind more than any of the others was the Polynesian - there was something so different about this hotel, it catered to parents, and children... and the beaches were lovely - It really felt like a relaxing vacation and the best part is that the restaurants are to die for there. It was so fun to come back to the Poly each evening and walk on the beach - as a little girl, it was such a fairytale... I will always remember that trip above any of my others b/c it was just so magical... I think you and your children would really enjoy this resort far above the others - it brings a sense of relaxation each evening that the Contemporary and the Grand Floridian just don't have... I think you'll find yourselves refreshed for each day of your trip if you stay at the Poly... just a thought...

Congratulations! I go to Disney a lot but to go with no worry about cost...WOW!! :sohappy: As far as suggestions, I offer these:

1. Read everything and plan ahead. This site and allears are great. Buy a Birnbaum guide and a Passporter as well.

2. With no concern over cost, I'd rank the resorts as 1. GF 2. AKL 3. PR 4. CR (but this is an adult's opinion). If taking several kids, I might rearrange it to 1. AKL or CR (tie due to Chef Mickey's breakfast & the monorail) 3. GF 4. PR

3. Make priority seatings at some great restaurants! There is nothing better, in my opinion, then having a great, sit-down meal while other visitors struggle at counter service or "fast food" locations. For kids, you have to try to get Cinderella's Breakfast in the Castle, Chef Mickey at CR, Crystal Palace/ Pooh character dinner in MK, Princesses Breakfast at Akershus in Norway in Epcot. For adults, Victoria & Albert's at GF is amazing as are many of the ones in Epcot.

By no means complete, I'd also recommend any of these: Liberty Tree (MK), Coral Reef or the Garden Grille (Epcot), Mexico, Canada, France, Norway, Morocco in World Showcase (Epcot), '50;s Prime Time Cafe, Brown Derby or Sci-fi Dine In (MGM), Spirit of Aloha luau (Polynesian), Hoop-de-doo...and at least a couple more I can't think of right now! Always follow your dinners with one of the shows whether Wishes, Illuminations, Fantasmic (see this one twice if you can), Hoop-de doo, etc.

4. How long are you staying? Depending on the length of stay, you must try to break the trip up. With small kids, you just cannot do a park every day and feel your best! Make sure to plan some "down time" for a day or two around the pool at your hotel, one of the water parks, Downtown Disney, the miniature golf place (Fantasia Gardens), etc. The extra rest will help you to "feel the magic" not the exhaustion!!

5. Check out everything that isn't really a theme park. The water parks, boating, spas, golf (if you like it), etc. Take one of the behind the scenes tours for a really neat and magical look, especially if this may be your only trip ever to WDW. If you have the time, don't limit yourself to "just" the theme parks!

Again, congratulations! Plan now and you will have an amazing trip!

There will be 5 adults and 4 children... ( 1 - age 6, 1 - age 5, 1 - age 2, 1 - age 1)

I thought with the children that the Poly might be a better choice... What do you all think... oh and did I mention that 2 of us are expecting again !

We are planning our next trip and will be staying @ the Poly. (however, I will have to pay :( )

Anyways, we stayed at the AKL on our last visit, and yes, the resort is incredible. But with 2 young children, transportation can be a bear. I would much rather get on the monorail b/c we spend most of our time @ MK & Epcot anyways. We did enjoy having a savanna room, especially in the mornings. But I am sure it will be just as nice to be able to see MK in the mornings as well.

You will have a great time, and congrats on expecting & the trip. My wife is also expecting (our 3rd in 3 1/2 years). :hammer:

Well, I have always loved the Epcot resorts (Boardwalk, Yacht & Beach Club) for a few reasons. One you can either walk to Epcot and MGM or you can ride a boat there. If you have the luxury of choosing to walk you don't have to battle the crowds getting to buses or monorails, you can take your time (especially after Fantasmic at MGM, the crowds are awful getting out of there). Also, you stay around a beautiful lake, you can rent boats, go fishing. And for the Magic Kingdom it's only a 5 min. bus ride away and about 8-10 min. for Animal Kingdom. Either way you have a great problem to have! When are you going to be there?

My wife and I absolutly LOVED the Animal Kingdom lodge. We had a Savannah view and it was amazing.

Most of your time at the hotel will be at night and in the evening, and at AK, the animals sleep outside bathed in a glow of Disney Magic moonlight.

As far as transportation, the busses are a pain (to me) so I always drive, then it becomes even easier than the monorail (no lines etc.).

Since you won the trip, you might want to consider a rental van for the length of stay -- that way you can get around anywhere when you want with no hassle plus you will have the added benefit of vsiting nearby Orlando and the attractions it has to offer if desired.

Congratulations to you on winning the trip!
