HGTV's new series "My Yard Goes Disney,"

The teapot was really nicely done, the hat not so much. They just kind of plopped toys in there and had a square mat underneath it.

I woulda killed for that train as a kid.

I'm not sure what you mean about WDI not designing/building because they showed imagineers designing and building the props throught the entire show.

I'm pretty sure that i wouldn't want that in my back yard.

I enjoyed the show quite a bit. I knew it would be over the top because it's Disney. Of course they are going to fill the yard with seemingly impractical things. But it was mainly all things for the kids. I think they balanced it well. The adults get a backyard makeover, and the kids get Disney's touches of fun.

I'll be honest though, I would love for them to tackle my backyard but I would fear greatly that I would not keep it looking as nice as they left it.

I really want to see this Epcot themed yard though! Where are those pics, mickey2008.1? :)

PS- How about we move the BAH in front of the REAL Chinese Theatre instead?

Those weren't Imagineers. They only helped the design team come up with a few ideas as shown in the conference room shot. The actual sculpting, building and painting were done by contractors as well as the design team.

Oh. So the woman working on the elevations of the teapot at the massive computer monitor wasn't at WDI?

i thought the show was amazing. I loved the teapot and all the design and detail they put into it. I was fairly suprised that after making that very detailed little area, they didnt just plop the hat right in front of it blocking it though...

Well, going beyond the actual design of the yard... I thought the show was really bad at presenting! Regardless of whether you like the final yard, it was such a boring show! It started neat, showing WDI doing the designs and stuff. But then it was mostly 22 minutes of trucks arriving with big parts to be carried into the yard and placed... Personally I thought the final design was pretty neat!

Also, they defeat all suspense by showing you the final yard pieces at the beginning of the show! And they showed next week's final design, too! Not really worth it to watch another 22 minutes of trucks delivering parts....

Would have been much better to have some cool projects that were built right in the back yard. I think of other design shows (anyone remember Monster House?!) and they showed them building these cool contraptions, almost walking you through it! I would have liked to see something more like that...

Yawn.
Felt like an infomercial for Disney, which in a way it was, I guess.
When the mom, right off the bat, mentioned making memories I laughed out loud. No way she wasn't fed that line.

Note to producers:
Less coverage of trucks unloading stuff.
Less needless in-park shots.
More time spent with WDI and design team.
More suspense. Don't spoil the ending.

Watched it. Didn't really enjoy it. My thought was - how are they going to remove those things (especially the hat!) in a couple years when the children are bored of them? Way too little kid for that major of a project. Needed to be more long-term and have flexibility in the future. Also, how to remove the 110 lb. train cars from the tracks if only 1 kid wants to do laps?

Too gaudy for me.

Shuttle mode...just like at MK when one station is closed.

I thought the show was boring and the design of the 1st backyard was completely impractical. Some of the problems were mentioned earlier such as removing the items once the kids grow bigger and getting the adult-sized cars off the track when not in use. One of the things that I thought about immediately was that the grandparents' backyard was part of the design. Hopefully they plan on keeping that house in the family on a permanent basis. I also have no idea how they could possibly maintain everything.

I'll probably DVR the next episode to see if the show improves.

I'd gladly take the real BAH if it would get it out of the park.

Cute show...just wished they showed more of the making of the stuff as opposed to just the installation.
I always like seeing how it is made almost more than the final product.

Did they have any of the cheesy branding shots like they do on Extreme Makeover Home Addition (IE: the zooming on on a logo for 3 seconds of a sponsor). I havent had a chance to watch the show yet. It is DVR'd. Im interested to see the show after yours and others points. However, Im just watching to get ideas on things I can build myself, but if Im going to spend the time watching, your bullet points might add to that 30 minutes.

It looks somewhere between they spent a little bit of money on this and totally cheap.

I think they should have either made a backyard out of found objects or things from Home Depot which evoke a Disney theme or gone all out and spent some serious bucks making it into a miniature park like atmosphere. This looks half-*ssed IMO.

I was really dissapointed with the show. I liked how they showed how they put stuff in and brought it over but the finished product was not very "Disney" to me. I hope the other shows are better.

Not impressed

Have to say I was not impressed AT ALL with this. The produced is from Cincinnati area where I love and I am familiar with some of his work. This was goofy (no pun intended) it wasn't any achievable idea that the average home-owner could achieve. It wasn't resourceful or even that well designed. It was a miss-mash of different stuff - different styles and a lot of difficult to maintain areas. I was hoping for something that took the AMAZING creativity of WDI and showed homeowners how to achieve it it an affordable way. These people didn't even seem that needy or deserving - just handy. They got a lot of way oversized props - constructed in OHIO - using WDI spec's trucked in and forced into their lawn with no regard for scale or co-existence. This was definitely a WDI intern project if they were even that involved. Bad show Jay Shatz (producer) and JayTV (and HGTV)

Thought the show was ok and the yard was nice for the age of the kids they have. I see this stuff going on ebay in about 10 years.

If it were my yard, I'd want a pool themed after Typhoon Lagoon (a big waterslide from the top of our slope into the pool) that at the push of a button, could put on a World of Color water show. Or they could just recreate the monorail waterslides from the DL hotel...I'm flexible. If the people at Disney are reading, feel free to PM me. I'd be more that happy to be your test subject out here in Southern California.
