I found a thread over on Dis that posted a link to the web site. When you click on it, it says Tikiman retired Aloha. Oh no!!!!

So I knew he posts over here often so I looked around for him.

I found a thread about the Poly and I read it, he lists a new website

and that one works.

So what is the scope on the old one. Did you retire Steve?

Please say it isn't so. What a loss if you did.

Laura22, Steve (not WDWmagic Steve, tiki Steve) mostly posts on Poly threads (no one is surprized about that,) but has been around magic as long as I have (since before stystem change over, I think around 4 years now.)



Tikiman where are you and more importantly how are you! Is everything ok?

It's a very strange way of announcing that, by injecting a script into the code....

Surely a simple HTML message on the homepage would have been sufficient. Each to thier own

I have a little more info........

Back on the Disboards there was a thread about Poly. Apparently it got a little heated and some very rude people said some rude things to Steve (AKA Tikiman) about being a "Poly protecter". He felt that maybe his website was misleading people, or at least doing more harm then good and he was considering stopping it.

In other words he was feeling unapreciated by these 2 people who were being uncalled for rude and it apears the retirement may have something to do with that (or a build up over the years.)

After that there was 5 pages of people saying how much they LOVE his web site.

Once again a few bad apples.

So if you love the Tikiman web site, be sure to let him know. :sohappy: :sohappy:

(and remember no one over here at Magic has been rude!!!!)

Well after a rough weekend where many of you might know I shut down the web page because of some nasty emails I was getting I feel I should explain what happened to the many of you that have been loyal visitors to my site.

It has been about a year or so and a few people have decided to send me nasty emails even saying things that have nothing to do wit the Polynesian and also stating things like the only reason I have good experiences at the Polynesian is because of my web page. Let me start by clearing the air about that.

Tara and I had our best trip when we went there and no one there had a clue who we were from the next person and we not only were treated like family from the minute we got there but we were upgraded for free to concierge lagoon view. At that time my web page did not even exist so the theory that we get good treatment because of the web page does not work there. Even now there are only a handful of people there that we know personally because of the change in staff so most of the time we are there we are just like everyone else that visits. I attribute our good treatment to the fact that we are nice back and when things don’t go right (yes we have had problems at the Polynesian) we know how to roll with the punches and make sure we communicate the issue without taking the persons head off. There are so many families that return as often or more than us and the staff feels they are like family. There are books full of people’s photos and messages near the concierge desk that prove that there are many people that get as good if not better treatment at the Polynesian.

The intent of my web page is not to portray the Polynesian as this perfect place, it is just to give you a feel of what it is like. When I first was going to go to the Polynesian I wanted something like my web page to be able to look at to help me understand the place, so I created it for others to have as a source also. I guess until it shut down I did not realize how many visit it all the time and some that don’t even like the Polynesian.

I had shut it down because I felt it had gone past the point where it was helpful and was becoming a target. I also felt like people were tired of me popping into every Polynesian posting and giving my 2 cents. It was like they wanted my web page information but they did not want me to reply to their issues. Well I did not go through all that work to supply the information and just stand off to the side and be quiet. Most people that know me know that I might question a bad report about the Polynesian (so I can get to the real issue) but I think all information (good and bad experiences) is important. I even try to send information back to the Polynesian when someone had a bad experience to see if they can do something to make sure it does not happen again and the Polynesian is very appreciative for the information.

Well I worked last night to restore the pages and even add a few new things just to make up for the temporary closing but unfortunately the bandwidth went over the limit for the month due to all the people trying to get on there. It will be back up on the 4th and hopefully improved.

I do want to say that many of these problems that I discussed above were not things that happened here.

I want to thank everyone for their emails and comments and I am still getting through all the messages (300 a day). I will do my best to respond to each one but I may miss a few and it might take some time but I will read each one carefully and because of the messages and realizing how helpful the pages have been they will be back up.

I know how disheartening an attack can be, but please be assured that many more love your site/work than don't. I visited your site often when we were planning our stay at the Polynesian and found it very helpful.

I know this won't make up for the nasty messages, but

I can understand the frustration with having to deal with some of the pain ITA people we can't fully avoid in the electronic (or physical) universe.

It's only my two cents, but having been a longtime Poly fan (no need for a sale job here) I have been staying at the Poly since about the time you were born... :lookaroun :lol: , so I have lived much of the history you've captured. I enjoy visiting your site for brief "visits" and also updates. I'm very happy that you will be restoring the site as I hope you have a better idea now that your desire for the site is being met, and that many, many of us think highly of your opinions.

I don't understand how it can be considered OK to lament the loss of AE or 20K, or to hate stitch, yet not be able to have an opinion on your favorite hotel.

In any case, do realize that it is a small minority that has whatever issue. Maybe when you reintroduce your site, you can provide a register or a poll so you can get a good idea of the contribution you have and continue to make.

Great to hear from you! Your site is one that I send anytime someone asks me for Disney info. It is very nice and I know you have put alot of time into it. Please don't be disheartened by a few, but be encouraged by the number of those who really appreciate your hard work (and those of us who truly love the Poly experience)
