Here it is! Our 1st Trip Report 10/21-10/28

Greetings everyone. We're are back home in chilly Chicagoland. Here is our first trip report. Please bear with me, as we are rookies at this. If you would like to know anything else that we haven't posted, please do not hesitate to drop us a line.

Sunday, October 21, 2007: My wife Theresa and I arrived in Orlando via Southwest Airlines at 11am, ahead of schedule and were ready to start our 7th anniversary celebration. After renting our vehicle and claiming our luggage we set off to our hotel for the week: The Galleria Palms in Kissimmee. Let me just tell you a little bit about this hotel. In a word, "perfect." Located on US 192 at mile marker 6, less than 10 minutes from the theme parks. We loved it, and for just $500 for 7 days (thru Travelocity) you couldn't beat it. The room had a business class feel to it with beautiful pillow top beds along with a fridge, microwave and wet bar. Beautiful black granite counter tops and Bath and Bodyworks soaps and shampoos were very nice, not to mention the rainmaker shower head. We had a view of The Tree of Life and EE at AK as well. The free deluxe continental breakfast was really out of this world. Waffles, biscuits and gravy and hard boiled eggs topped menu along with your other basics like donuts, muffins, 3 different types of juices, hot tea and Seattle's Best coffee. A great way to start the day. Anyway, enough about the accomodations. This day was our actuall anniversary (lucky #7) but we didn't want to waste one of our days at one of the parks seeing as how we like to start out early and it was already 2pm. So it was off to one of my wifes favorite places: Downtown Disney. We picked up our "Happy Anniversay Pins" at guest relations (which gave us a lot of perks throughout the week) then it was time to shop. We grabbed a quick bite at Wolfgang Puck Express then proceeded to World of Disney. Being a Sunday afternoon, the place was packed. We didn't spend as much time there as we wanted, so we vowed to return during the week.
We met up with my brother and sister-in-law, who just happened to be there at the same time as us and we had dinner at Sizzler! I know, before you start laughing at us, it's my brothers favorite place and we no longer have any locations in Chicago. It's sort of a first night in Florida tradition. My wife and I called it a night early. Seeing as how we only had about 3 hours of sleep the night before and the upcoming week was going to be loaded with fun.

Monday, October 22, 2007: This was the day we really celebrated our anniversary. It was time for MGM. We arrived at rope drop and were able to ride RnRC and ToT before 9:30. We caught Beauty and the Beast, the first time we had ever seen it and were pleasantly surprised. Then it was time for TGMR. My wife and I still love this attraction, even though it hasn't really changed through the years. I still get the chills everytime when I watch that little montage of movie clips at the end. Then it was time for Star Tours. Actually had to wait 20 minutes for this one but it was fun as usuall. We then met up with my brother and sister-in-law. I love them to death, but they are sort of a "go with the flow" couple who enjoy sitting down on benches and relaxing as much as the attractions themselves. So after spending a few hours with them and seeing MV3D and doing RnRC and ToT for the second time, we parted ways for the day and the wife and I set off for the highlight of our trip: our anniversary dinner at The Brown Derby. We had 4:40 reservations with the Fantasmic package. This is my wifes favorite Disney restaurant so I arranged for a few special surprises. After dinner, just before dessert, the hostess came to our table and told my wife she had a phone call. They then proceeded to bring an old fashioned telephone to our booth. We listened, and it was Micky and Minnie wishing us a happy anniversary. It was the cutest thing. Singing "Happy Anniversary to You." Then our server brought us some complimentary champagne and fresh strawberries. A very unexpected surprise. Then they brought my wife the gift I had arranged. A sterling silver charm bracelet and a single pink rose dusted with pixie dust. My wife was almost in tears. It was the happiest I had seen her in a long time. I think she liked the rose more than the bracelet! She took great care of it all week, carried it home on the plane and it is still ingreat shape sitting in our home tonight. We wrapped up our fist full magical day at WDW with Fantasmic (my favorite fireworks show) and our trip was off to a great start.

Here it is! Our 1st Trip Report 10/21-10/28 continued

Tuesday, October 23, 2007: Today we went to Universal Studios. Normally we can do both US and IOA in one day, however we attended HHN later in the week and we had the stay and scream option so we decided to dedicate an entire day to both parks. Arrived bright and early as usual. Headed over to The Mummy and were able to walk right on with no wait whatsoever. Then went to Jaws. My favorite attraction. Our tour guide, named Whitney was probably the best we ever had. She really got into her character (screaming like a real shark was coming for us). Absolutely loved it! We decided to skip Earthquake this year. Seems to be getting cheesier as the years go by. Why they closed BTTF and not this one I'll never know. Speaking of BTTF, things seem to be moving along with the transformation. Kwik-E-Mart was pretty cool. Real Duff Beer for sale, but I wanted a Squishee. MIB was great as usual. Then it was time for ET. They must have redone ET at the end where he says your name. For the past 10 years, whenever we stopped in front of him, he would just kind of stop right in the middle. This time however, we heard our names clearly. How cute. Stopped at the Horror Make Up Show. First time for my wife, and I hadn't seen it since 1991. It had some good comedy bits and the Werewolf at the end scared the bejesus out of some 6 year old little boy. Terminator had only a 5 minute wait and was barely half full. I wonder if this one is losing some popularity. Shrek was pretty packed. Our longest wait of the day. Afterwords, we enjoyed listening at the Shrek and Donkey meet and greet. Donkey was at his finest. "What's that smell? Shrek, did you fart again?" LOL. Then when Donkey said he was going to take a quick break, someone said, "Awwww." Donkey responded with, "Hey, do I go to your job and tell you that you can't go to the bathroom?!" Funny stuff. Then it was over to Twister. Seemed like they intensified this one a notch. The wettest I have gotten on this one yet. then over to Jimmy Neutron. This is the only simulator at any of the Orlando theme parks that makes me sick. This time was no exception. Then it was time for Lucy- A tribute. We played the same trivia game with the same 5 questions and looked at the same memorabilia. I love Lucy as much as anyone, but I think it's either time to close up shop or redo the entire attraction. We decided to check out Animal Actors. Again, they need some new material. They have been using the same lines for over 10 years now. It was now 3pm and this would usually be the time for IOA, but since we would have a full day on Thursday with HHN we decided to leave and do some shopping at CityWalk. Then we hit one of the outlet malls. I keep forgeting the name. It's on Vineland and runs along I-4. They have the best Disney shop off property. We found some great deals and got most of our souvenier shopping out of the way. Then we headed to another one of our traditional places: Perkins for dinner. Again, not the most romantic place in the world, but all the Perkins in Chicagoland closed down about 20 years ago and Florida is the only place we see them now. Then it was back to our hotel and time to rest to our trip to MK on Wednesday. I will continue when I am not so swamped. I promise. To be continued.......

Here it is! Our 1st Trip Report 10/21-10/28 continued

Wednesday, October 24, 2007: MK here we come! For the first time ever, we were present for the rope drop. There we were, at the boundry of Frontier Land with a group of 30 people or so heading over to Splash Mountain. Of course the CM's had to remind us numerous times that BTMRR was still closed until the 25th:cry:. Anyhow, we were among the first to ride Splash on this particular day. And wouldn't you know it... I get completely drenched by a water cannon before any of the drops. Oh well, it was still great but I did feel wet the rest of the day. Since my other favorite next door was in its last day of refurbishment, it was off to HM. I had heard all the good things about its new look and I was not disapointed. It was great! I had read that some did not care for the new bride, but I thought it was brilliantly creepy...especially when she was singing, "Here comes the bride." A classic attraction which rightfully deserved its improvements. Then it was off to Fantasyland. Peter Pan, Snow White and Pooh all taken care of in less than an hour. We then figured we should head on over to PotC. I still am amazed by the lifelike Jack Sparrow. Amazing. We then decided to grab a quick and early lunch at Pecos Bill's. Here's where our Anniversary buttons came in handy. I know our anniversary was technically on the 21st, but since this trip was an anniversary gift, I think it was fair to say we were celebrating for our entire trip. Anyhow, free desserts for my wife and I. :slurp: We then headed over to Hall of Presidents to give our food a chance to digest. Whenever I watch this show, it makes me even more proud to be an American. Then it was time for our first ride ever on Liberty Square Riverboat. A nice little ride. Plus we got to see BTMRR being tested with empty trains. Like rubbing salt in my wounds:mad:. A light drizzle was in the air when we staked our place for the afternoon parade. At about 3:15, the announcement was made....due to inclement weather blah, blah, blah. But they did surprise us with a little mini parade with the characters in vehicles and the lyrics, "Sprinkle sprinkle, splash splash. How long will this rain last?" That tune was in my head the rest of the day. Very cute:lol:. Then it was over to PhilharMagic. Interesting to say the least. I won't get into it. Read my thread in general discussion entitled, "Bizzare scene at Philharmagic." Now it was time to ride HM and PotC for a second time. Then a Dole Whip in memory of my late mother Beverly. They were her favorite. Then it was off to Tommorowland. I am not a fan of Space Mountain. We didn't get fast passes and my wife did not want to wait in line for 60 minutes so we skipped it this time. The wait for Buzz Lightyear was really short, only 20 minutes. Liked our on ride snap shot so we bought it. Then we rode TTA for the first time. A nice little ride. CoP....I'm sorry. We love you but we just couldn't fit you in. It was approaching 6pm and we needed to stake out our place for SpectroMagic and Wishes. We headed to the top of the train station, grabbed 2 chairs and sat down and people watched for the next 2 hours. Some may think were crazy for waiting so long, but we love doing it and it was well worth it. The perfect ending to a perfect day at the most magical place on earth! MK we love you! To be continued.....

Here it is! Our 1st Trip Report 10/21-10/28 continued

Thursday, October 25, 2007: Sorry it has been so long in posting the rest of our report. Well...here is the rest. Today we returned to Universal. Normally we would be able to knock out both parks in one day, however since the wife and I discovered an option for Halloween Horror Nights called "Stay and Scream" we just couldn't resist. So we did IOA...bright and early at 9am. We rode The Hulk and Spiderman within 15 minutes. Then it was on to Jurassic Park....been on that thing so many times and we really didn't want to be wet all day again since this was going to be a long day. We decided to take a pass. Then it was time for Dueling Dragons. We noticed some barriers set up for the new Harry Potter section construction....but not much. Took a stroll through Suess Landing. Rode Cat in the Hat and watched the kids get soaked on One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. Then we decided that was enough for IOA. Not one of our favorite places...but we don't hate it. We just think that at any other time both parks can be easily done in one day. We strolled around CityWalk. Did some shopping. Then went to one of our favorite restaurants for lunch: Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville. The place was crowded and they were doing a live simulcast over Sirius Satellite radio. Pretty cool. Then we hit most of the other park again. Rode all of our favorites. Before too long it was 4:30 and time to be "hearded in" the waiting pen for HHN (one of the highlights of our trip). You see, HHN didn't open to the general public until 6:30, but since we had the "Stay and Scream" we got to have first crack at the haunted houses. Pretty sweet. First was "Nightmare on Elm Street." Our favorite house this year. The scenes were done perfectly and you felt as if you were in the actual movie. Then it was "PsychoScareapy: Home for the Holidays." Very twisted. Loved the lunatic building the snowman with human body parts! Then we high-tailed it over to "Camp Blood." Jason seemed to be everywhere! Pretty cool how they transformed the Jaws que. Then it was over to "Jack's Funhouse in 3D." Very gross. It felt like a very bad LSD trip. No big scares at all. Was very disapointing. By now the park has been opened to everyone else...and it became insanely crowded. We went over to "The Thing: Assimilation." A cool movie from the 80's and a very interesting haunted house. Was very pleased with set decoration and the fact that the house was built off farther away, it had that desolation feel to it. Really creepy. By the way. We saw the old BTTF Train prop sitting out there in the middle of nowhere. Kind of sad. Now the lines were starting to build. We headed over to "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" with a 20 minute wait. Loved it. They put some stuff on the floor that felt like you were stepping on human endtrails or something. The house looked just like the one in the remake. I wasn't a fan of the 2003 remake (the original 1974 version is one of my favorite films of all time) but this house was incredible! We went over to "Vampyr: Blood Bath." It was supposed to resemble a teenage rave party over run by vampires. If the wait wasn't 45 minutes, it probably wouldn't have been too bad, but the walk through was very short and no shock value what so ever. So we had 7 houses done with one to go: "Dead Silence: The Curse of Mary Shaw." A 75 minute wait, but pretty well worth it. I think the effects in here were the best. Walking in you felt a 30 degree drop in temperature...I mean it was cold like death itself. Really wild! The way they had the mirrors positioned, you didn't know if the scareactors were right in front of you or behind or above. Really good. Would have liked to see more ventriliquist dolls though.
So, that was it for the houses. All in all, my wife and I were very pleased. We sat down and had a beer and decided what was next. It was Bill and Ted time. Their shows have always made me laugh. This year was no exception...however it could have been better. We walked around for a while longer. Watched countless people get the crap scared out of them. Got a picture with Jack the Clown (choking my wife...heh heh heh) and just absorbed the atmosphere. Before we knew it, it was after midnight. It had been nearly a 16 hour day for us old timers and we had to be well rested for EPCOT on Friday. To be continued......(I promise.)
