Marvel Studios’ plans for the X-Men going forward are one of the biggest things on a lot of MCU fans’ minds right now. Well, Friday afternoon brought some rumors that the company is considering Henry Cavill to be Wolverine. That’s not a ton to go on, but that has never stopped Twitter from erupting into wild speculation. Honestly, it’s a lot of fun to read the assorted takes and wonder about the future of the MCU. Nothing has been announced yet as it relates to the Fantastic Four or X-Men. One would also have to imagine the Marvel is trying to figure out the perfect person to follow-up Hugh Jackman’s absolutely iconic role as Logan after all those movies he’s been in as the character.

Cavill is, of course, still hoping to play Superman again someday, but the chances of that are looking slimmer and slimmer as DC pivots toward the approach that’s seen them string together Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Joker. A move to the other side of things in the comics universe could give Cavill a second chance to connect with a lot of fans. Wolverine is also one of the most popular Marvel characters, so it wouldn’t be like he would be sacrificing a ton of fame in that regard.

I'm a big fan of Cavil. As the Witcher, he is absolutely fantastic. And he is by far my favorite superman. But I'm not sure he would be a great fit for Wolverine. I feel like he just doesn't have that gruffness that Wolverine has. He's a really good actor so he might be able to pull it off. I've been surprised before.

I always figured Cavil taller.
That is why height doesn't bother me. Hollywood does a great job disguising it. I think my biggest hang up recasting Wolverine, is Jackman IS the Wolverine to me. He played it so well I can't picture anyone else in the roll. The same goes for Tony Stark. I would like Cavil to join the MCU, I just don't know as who. But as of now, in Feige I trust. So I'm not too concerned with casting.

Personally I dont really care if the casting is comic accurate or not. As long as the actor is good.
I think you need a bit of both. The MCU has done a great job of this. Solid actors while adjusting the character to look good on screen, while keeping the essence of the comic.

I wouldn’t be opposed to this, but I do hope that the MCU X-Men won’t be as Wolverine focused as the Fox films

I wouldn't be shocked if it was tbh they need to compensate for the fact they don't 100% own Spider-Man and Wolverine is a good alternative in leading hero material.

89% of the other XMen never got a chance to shine. I’d just like to see the MCU do something different lol
While you can consider the Infinity Saga as more the Tony Stark Saga. I think the MCU and by extension Feige has done a great job at making sure all major characters and a lot of minor ones have their time to shine. So I have faith that Feige and his team will do the X-Men and the rest of the former Fox Marvel characters justice.

But there's so little Marvel screen time coming up!!...

Agree..:the X-men movies have been pretty good...but haven’t delved into many of the characters nearly enough.

Storm and cyclops are the heart of the X-men...and they haven’t done nearly enough. Cavill could definitely be a cyclops

I know right, how will have time to really flush out the characters in only a couple film slots that you show....
The schedule I posted is missing two or three more slots for more D+ series, too!

Ahhh...hope springs eternal with you guys...a lot of that is tentative of course...I think we will see many changes before that “phase 5” stuff...

Hell...they may even get back to other franchise that are currently nearly dead in the water - even though they’d give you a similar schedule with lots of “tentatives”? We can hope
