I may have to change for free dining at that Dec dates are not included for us. So thinking end of Jan 22-29 to get free dining. Is it cold then and how are the crowds compared to early Dec.

January is a plan for anything month. I've been in that time frame when it's been shorts weather, and also when I've needed a jacket, gloves, and hat to stand watching Illuminations. It's not usually rainy and thunderstorms are fairly rare, if that helps. But in general, it will be chilly in the morning, get warm around noon, and get chilly again when the sun goes down. So layering is essential. The pools are heated, so as long as you have something warm to put on when you get out, within easy reach, you can swim.

Just plan on going, check the weather frequently as the date nears, and pack accordingly. The weather could be fantastic, or it could be awful - just like any other week of the year. But if you're flexible, you'll have a great time whenever you go.

I plan my WDW visit every year the first week or two of January and for the past 5 years we dealt with all kinds of weather.

Always on the cold side. Two years ago we took the Disney Wonder for three days and on our return the water on the street was frozen.

Prepare for very cold temperatures early morning and late night.

Last year we were there the first 2 weeks of December and there was record cold. Many days the highs were in the 50's and lows in the 30's. Nearly everyday was long pants, long sleeve sweatshirts, jackets and hats. Now I am from upstate New York and we are used to the cold and I was cold at WDW last year. Unfortunately I did not have my heavy jacket which I really should have had. During other years we have been there at the same time and the temps were in the 80's during the day and very comfortable.

Like Mom said, be prepared for cold and warm temps. Dress in layers so you can thin out the clothing as the day heats up. Also bring knit hats and knit gloves. They pack easily and will really help if the mercury starts to plummet.

Don't change just yet if it is just for dinning. If you got any sort of deal for your December dates you would have to forgo that discount to get free dinning. At pop you will only be getting counter service for free and only 2 meals a day I believe.

Do you have kids? Most of the January dates kids are already back in school. So would you want to pull them out to of school after a big holiday? Will the school allow it.

The deal sounds great but it isn't always for everyone so just think about all those before you decide to move your trip a month and a half later.

January has always been one of our favorite months to visit... helps with the post-holiday blues and crowds are "lower" ("slow season" has picked up over the years, so gone is the phrase "the parks are empty").

I was born and raised 3.5 hours south of Disney, so my definition of cold is substantially different than someone that has lived north of the Florida state line. Our cold down here is due to "cold fronts": so cold is always hit or miss... one week I'll layout, the next week I'm in my ski jacket. So you would definitely need to keep track of the forecasts as your trip approaches!

Yes on the kid.. One that is 8 and 2 that are 2 one will turn 3 in Feb. after we get back.. But school he was getting out 7-14 and school is out on the 17th so he would miss as well 3rd grade.. We decided to keep as is, because now everyone will change dates and it will be really slow that week now. Plus we are going to eat kids meals one per day, when we can, and eat pop tarts donuts in the room. You gotta do what you gotta do. Our business did terrible this yearr. THe economy is at its worse here in Texas.NO Rain temps where we live 69 straight days over 106.. Thanks every one..

I am originally from Texas so I have heard that it was terrible this year. I have a few ideas to help parents save money at Disney when traveling with kids. We didn't have a lot of money but I remember my mom always having stuff with us. Buy glow sticks and such and put them in your bag going to the parks. When you kids ask you to buy one of the balloons or swords during the night time parade/fireworks just give them the glow necklaces and stuff you already bought. You can even link them together to make the mickey ears they sell at the parks. I also remember mom always packed snacks for us. We never bought soda or snacks because we had the original version of the brita filter bottles and mom brought our favorite snacks everyday. We were traveling to Six Flags not Disney but its the same idea.

Thank You so much for not slamming us. UP until this past two years our business was holding on. NOW we will never dig out under this pres. But not opening that can so one else either.. I gave him chance and effort but nothing but worry anymore. Although we are still trying to go..I have 2 months to decide..Just scary to see people just blow money like nothing and one day you wake up and you are in that group, only we never got upity ever about anything.. Glow sticks are not fun for our kids so no problem with souveners.. He just wants new Mickey ears. That he shall have and the two 2 year olds have never been, so I think a hat will work for them as well. 8 Year old just wants to go and never ask for anything in the past.. Didnt want the cheap stuff either..We can do this and only worries are the drive down for me hubby and one 2 yr old the others are flying and got good ticket prices. $70.00 I just couldnt swing it that week..

I would never slam anyone for trying to do right for their kids even if money is tight. Like I said we didn't have a lot of money growing up but I'll never forget the year my mom got us annual passes to Six Flags and the fact that Christmas was always full of gifts. I wish you the best of luck with the drive with a 2 year old. I've never been more than a 2 hour drive with one that little. My aunt and uncle drove from The Woodlands to Disney last year and said their portable dvd player was a life saver. A good trip to Wal-mart or Sam's since you are driving can save you a lot.

Do you think crowds are low and we can do more . We will go Jan 22-28 for free dining, and room rates are 7.00 cheaper per night x 7 nights. Tell me we wont be the only one there..Especially for the kids and characters????

Crowds should in theory be lower than they are in the summer but the park is never truly dead any more. In January the marathon weekend typically held the first weekend in January is the busiest followed by MLK weekend. Besides that there aren't many people traveling from out of town for Disney at that time. Most kids are back in school now by the week after new years so families don't want to pull their children out of school only a few days into a new semester.

My boyfriend and I trying to go in late January 20 to 30 but now maybe just 22 to 30 for free dinning waiting on a room discount first to decide which deal is better. We specifically chose the last week of January/first week of February because it is between two holiday seasons. March and April are busy due to spring breaks and Easter. I can't go in February because of my last semester at college but January works great for both our schedules. I would imagine that the free dinning won't bring in crowds like summer but it won't be dead because Disney doesn't have dead periods any more.
