Help required with Disney Central

Hello,

I've just downloaded mirc, and want to get started on seeing the content available for download.

I have managed to do the following so far:-

1) Get into the Disney Central chat channel
2) Type in !videos
3) Enter into another chat room
4) Type in dir to bring up a list of the available files
5) The available folder are things like WALT DISNEY WORLD DISNEYLAND etc.

I want to know how to access the content of these folders. What is the exact command??

I have consulted the Disney Central homepage which says I need to type in:-

cd (((WALT DISNEY WORLD)))

I keep trying it, but nothing happens

I'd really appreciate some guidance.

There is quite a lot in the Digital media and Photos forum, but since you got this far...

once you have the root available folder list (WDW, DL etc. as you said) type CD then the folder of your choice

e.g. CD Walt Disney World (note the space after CD)

you should get a response confirming this is now your Current Directory (CD)

Now type DIR to set a list of that directory (DIRectory list)

and you may see a list of actual files (identifiable by their suffix (.mpeg .avi etc. and a size in k/mb) but more likely than not you will now be in a sub directory - you will have a list something like MAGIC KINGDOM, EPCOT, MGM etc.

again, select the one you want by CD MAGIC KINGDOM or whatever, then DIR.

Keep going like this until you get to the file you want (for example MAGIC KINGDOM may bring up the attractions, or the lands they are in - you need to CD these and DIR them to look in them)

Once you find the file you want - say Dreamflight - type GET Dreamflight1991byfred.avi (note you have to enter the full listing as it appears on the screen - remember the space after GET and don`t include the size (k/mb)

You will now get prompted to accept the download, or most probably, be put in a queue - you will be prompted when you get to the top of the queue.

Instead of typing out the full name of the sub DIR you want in the 30 seconds before the connection is automatically closed (eg DIR Big thundermountian railroad nighttime ride me and my brother June 1997.mpeg) mIRC can auto copy what you highlight - put the cursor on the first letter of the sub dir or file you want, hold left mouse button and drag to the end of the sub dir/file - it should highlight. Now let go of the left button. type CD or GET, space, then right click the mouse after the space and select paste - much quicker!

If you go into a sub folder in error, type CD.. to move back one directory.

I`m not an expert - I`ve only had mIRC for 4 months, but I hope this helps. PM me if you have anymore questions - but remember I`m no expert!

That is extremely helpful. I'm going to try that immediately.

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain it all for me. It is very much appreciated.

I'll PM you if I need any further help.

Once again, thanks :)

Hey, Minniemouse!

It took me some time to get used to the mIrc commands too. If you need some help, just pm me, ok? I am not an expert yet, but I will do my best to help you, as the guys there did to me. Here's a tip: you don't need to type the names of folders and files, you will lose much time. Just highlight them and press ctlr+v So, when you get to !videos, for example, just type CD, highlight the folder name, press ctrl+v. and then type DIR. and then type GET, highlight the name of the file you want, then again, ctrl+v. If you do this way, you won't run the risk of being shut down because you exceeded the time limit.:)

Welcome to our collection MM.

Another helpful piece is:
http://www.wdwresorttv.com

There is a step by step guide.

Plus I highly recommend Invision. (There is a link and a guide for that as well.) What Invision will do is get rid of all of the commands (get, cd, etc.) and make it so everything can be double clicked. It makes the whole process much easier.

Welcome and feel free to PM an Op if you have any problems. Or just ask in the open channel.

tee hee... I`m neither. 5 years of playing Rugby at school told me THATS the game to play.... pity the pay cheques arn`t the same!

Having said that - I`m Mancunian, so always wish both teams to win. Unless its a Derby (which is a great time to go shopping at the Trafford Centre!!)

OK, need a bit more help please :brick:

I'm getting my files, being slotted into queues, but am rather confused as to how long this all should be taking.

I've 'disabled' the accept option, as someone recommended, so that the file will automatically start to download without me having to hang around by my PC.

I've asked for two files, and am queue #6 and 7. What exactly does this mean? And is there anyway of finding out how long it'll be before the files start to download?

I entered the 'sends' command, and notice some of the times are very long, one is about 23 hours!!!

Please help!

Are you on broadband or dial up? I'm on broadband and files of 300mb + can take two to six hours to download. Depending on genreal network loads and which server at Disney-Central happend to be hosting the file you are after.

If you are in queue #6 (# is American for number) then there are five people ahead of you waiting to download from that server. The wait could be any length, depending on how big the files in the queue are and how fast a connection the people downloading have.

If you look on the main page (#disney-central - the one with all the coloured text and people usually playing the trivia game if its running) you will see various paragraphs saying file server online, EG;

<popkidWDW> File server online triggers:<<.....

and then a whole load of info. In this info is AQT -average queue time for that particular server (popkidWDW is one server, WDWGuy08 is another etc.) So look at the AQT for the server you want to download from for a good idea of if you will be queued, or how long the queue is before your download will start. Its normally pretty accurate.

Once you in that particular servers directory or sub dirs (where you normlly type CD.. GET.. etc. you can type sends for a list of the files currently being downloaded to people (more importantly, also how long the send has left - once one send is finished, everyone moves up one space in a queue). You can also type queues to see who is in the queue, where they are in the queue, and what they are asking for (if 10 people ahead of you want a 350mb video clip you know you won`t be downloading in a few minutes!

Hope this helps.

Since the main Invision site has been down a few days I threw up the latest Invision 2.0 onto some space on my ISP. This will make navigating the fileservers dramatically easier and quicker. Just make sure in the main Invision options that you have the fserve explorer checkbox checked. Then when you type a trigger in the channel, a nice flashy graphical interface will popup where you can just happily click through directories and que/download files with a simple double-click. Invision adds alot of neat, fun options too. Have fun!

Just an update :)

Once again, thanks for all your tips and guidance. It really helped.

I'm now downloading like a good 'un, and have found some brilliant videos.

One ickle question though...

When I logon to mirc, it says that I have 24 evaluation days left, and there's a link to register online. I clicked on the link, and it states that I have to make a one-off payment of 20USD to continue to use mirc.

Is this correct, as I swear I heard someone say it was free :hammer:

As we would say here in Wales, diolch!!! (i.e. thank you!!!)

No, its true. You have to pay to continue to use it after the time is up... I think its well worth it though considering what you get. Its a one off payment and now is a good time to pay - what with the exchange rates what they are!

If you wish to donate $20 then register, if you do not then after the 30 days you get a message saying that trial has expired, however if you go past the message you can continue to use it.

As they say in Wales

That's only a nag message. After the 30 days you may continue to use Mirc without paying. You just click the little X to close the message and resume using Mirc.
