Help me plan a one day visit to the DLR - Now a second visit on April 28th to DL/DCA

Hope you had fun!

It was a weird day, HOT midday (not DL's fault), and my personal ECV broke during the heat, ended up with a manual wheelchair that either my wife pushed or I used as a Walker. Once again, not DL's fault, well, maybe they could stock more ECV's for rent, at $50 per day ($70 if you count the $20 deposit) seems like they make a nice profit on them. (The wait list was at 42 around 5 PM).

It is getting late, so a full report will hopefully come tomorrow.

So, do we get to help plan your Covid Disneyland trip @Darkbeer1 ?

My plan so far, based on the little info I have.

Presuming it is an afternoon/evening event.

Get there early, not sure where we can park, maybe the DLH lots.

Head to check in outside the gates, say Hello to everyone. Grab the schedule, mainly the free food and drink options, and possible special entertainment, including Fireworks. (Heck, government folks are exempt to COVID rules.

Want to check out Splash Mountain, Snow White, Haunted Mansion, RotR and others.

Need time to press flesh, or knock elbows nowadays, In reality, that is the priority of the event.

Let me share two e-mails, one I already shared in another thread.

>>Dear David,

Thank you for completing registration for the upcoming Disneyland Resort Reopening Community Event. A Cast Member will contact you if additional information is required. We look forward to welcoming you in person. Pre-arrival information will be sent about one week prior to your arrival with details regarding event check-in and your itinerary.

Have a magical day!<<

And my response...

>>Good day:

First off, I am glad to hear about the Disneyland Resort Reopening Community Event.

Alas, I never got the invite, I presume Jill or someone else just confirmed for me.

But I have no details, such as the date and starting time, so I can adjust my schedule accordingly. I presume the invite is +1, so that my wife can attend with me.

Very happy to see the parks reopening, plus the high demand on the first day of reservations.

Thanks in advance for providing me with further details.

OK, so it looks like we will be Test Dummies, and less press the flesh stuff. Here is the invite, minor editing to keep some stuff private.

Dear David,

The last 400-plus days have been a challenging time for all of us, including our entire community. At Disneyland® Resort, as our theme parks remained closed for more than a year, we weathered a number of challenges that certainly none of us could have ever predicted. Yet one of the constants during a year like no other was your ongoing support of us, for which we will forever be grateful.

To show our gratitude, we are thrilled to invite you and a guest to be among the first of our Guests to visit Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks during a special preview experience Wednesday, April 28, anytime between the hours of 9:00am to 7:00pm.

As you can imagine, we've been preparing extensively for our historic reopening, and have made quite a few changes with the health and safety of our guests and cast members top of mind. While it may feel a little different from your last time at the parks, most of your favorite attractions, characters, shopping and dining experiences will still be a part of your visit.

Given that new processes, such a reservation system, have been put in place that will help us control capacity, the process for receiving your tickets will be different from what you’ve experienced in the past. Should you be able to join us on the 28th, we encourage you to keep an eye on your email for additional information that will be coming your way several days after your RSVP.

We're delighted to offer this preview experience to you and look forward to seeing you on the 28th and making memories with you once again.

Please join us on

That's neat that you get to go, and for free no less. This reminds me that one of the initial news articles announcing the reopening said something about inviting locals to attend early. My wife was really excited because she thought maybe it would be open to anyone or former passholders or something. I guess you have to be in that professional circle.

Yes, I am a member of S.O.A.R., which handles the decisions of political donations for the Anaheim Resort Area, including the Millions that the DLR spends.

So yes, I am in the inner circle, I get treated like a politician since I have influence over them, well, sometimes.....

So thinking about this, we will focus on Disneyland, and only visit DCA if we are done at DL before 7 PM.

So going clockwise, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Splash, RotR, BTMR, Snow White, Peter Pan, Mr. Toad, Dumbo, Alice, iasw (maybe), Space Mtn. Star Tours (maybe). DL Railroad, Monorail.

Arrive early to start at 9 AM.

Not sure if they might have a special Lunch/Dinner so we can listen to some speeches. I really can't skip that part.

Can't wait for the trip report! Beyond excited that things are actually reopening. I'm curious to see what shape Splash is in, and what your thoughts on the Snow White changes are. Not to mention the Covid changes...

Yes, I am planning to focus on those things. But not fully sure how the event will be handled.

From one of my e-mails... >>Additional information about your visit and your tickets for admission will be sent the shortly before the event. In the meantime, learn more about what to expect during your visit.<< The addition info is expected by the end of the week.

My guess, it will be a blended event that is also open to CM's and their friends, to provide more guinea pigs for testing purposes.

But Lisa has told me she won't be feeling well on the 28th, and can't work that day... but she does know a DL visit will make her feel better.

“Are you telling me this doctor’s note isn’t a valid ticket?”

Forgot about Indy, so that will more than likely first, to check out the refurb.

Wasn't the refurb cancelled?

>>Several rides that underwent refurbishments and renovations during the pandemic closures — including King Arthur Carrousel, Indiana Jones Adventure, Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree and Pixar Pal-A-Round — will return with the parks on April 30.<<

Still, I don't believe it's likely got the refurb that was originally planned, as that might have even been cancelled before the pandemic really hit, if I remember correctly.

If it got anything, it was probably a diet refurb.

That's actually really exciting. If Indy, Mansion, and Splash look the best they have in years I'll go while the mask mandate is still a thing.

Otherwise, I'll wait until masks aren't a thing unless they announce Splash's closing date or something. I went to Lagoon in Utah the other day, and the masks during the afternoon were quite miserable and not something I want to deal with in 100 degree socal weather at Disneyland.

The link he gave dates back to an article he wrote in November 2019 when the refurb was announced. Do we actually have anything official that these changes ended up happening after Covid hit?

"Disneyland crews will replace a plank bridge and its steel structure in the show set of the Indiana Jones Adventure attraction and refurbish rockwork, according to the building permit."

Even if they happened, will they be noticeable? Doesn't seem like they are adding any show elements, just fixing structure.
