Trying to choose a good pre-Epcot Bfast and Kona looks good so does Captain's Grill want to eat at 7:30 to still have a chance at making rope drop.

Reason... Breakfast buffet is wonderful and quiet and waiters are right there. Kona was not good. There were only maybe 10 of us in the restaurant. Waiters must have had a wedding somewhere. No refills the tonga toast was tiny the size of seriously the packaged chees slices and thin as one cheap loaf of bread slice. Very disappointing.. Captains it the best between the two really. They made us feel special!!!

Saw the rope drop thing then definitely Captains Grill.. Their buffet is not trashed by kids ... and you get it as fast as you need it not waiting tll the cookm from across the park can get there.

I have a hard time believing your Tonga Toast was that bad. If it was I would have sent it back! Its supposed to be like two inches thick! Don't be afraid to speak up when you don't like something or it's not made right.
To the OP- I think it depends where you are staying! If you want to get to rope drop at Epcot then Captain's grille is right out the back at the Yacht club and you would get to Epcot quicker. Not to mention that I have heard you can get to the attractions faster sometimes because fewer people are waiting at the International Gateway at rope drop.

Where are you staying? Are you relying on Disney transportation or will you have your own car? And if you're relying on Disney transportation will it be an option that early? I understand resorts have "breakfast buses" to get people wherever they're going, but if there are multiple stops you could miss an ADR time.

Without knowing those answers, I lean towards Captain's Grille, mainly because a: you'll be closer to the park you want to go to that day, and b: I don't know if DVC construction at Poly is extending to messes or unappealing noise in the main building that might affect your breakfast.

Captain's Grille would be the easiest to get into Epcot afterwards, but it depends on where you are staying. (You were asking about CSR in the resort sub right, so you are staying there?) If you don't have a car, getting there could be a pain unless you are staying in one of the connected resorts. If you do have a car, you have to move it to the main lot at Epcot when you are done.

We ate at Kona's at 7:30 earlier in June. After our meal we took the monorail to the ticket station and switched to the Epcot monorail. We didn't waste any time and knew we were all ordering Tonga Toast (which was fantastic) and we made it to Epcot around 9:15. There's just too much traffic on the monorail loop that time of day to get to Epcot by rope drop

Not to mention that, depending on when the trip is, the monorail won't even be running until park opening for a while. Taking the monorail to get anywhere by rope drop won't work at all right now.
