 -Help. My planning is getting a little out of control! Booking lodging 1 year out and choosing my dinging 200 days out and booking at 180 days isn't abnormal but I think my packing compulsion is getting really bad! I have 14 vacation days not counting travel days. We are going to have a washer and dryer and my problem is I've packed 14 outfits for myself! I've also got a written list of the counter service places I want to eat at and snack locations are also listed. I've also got a Disney shopping list! Help I need less structure! or do I?

You sound perfectly normal to me. Good planning typically produces good vacations.

I'd watch out for the overpacking, though! Pack up all of those clothes and lug them up and down your stairs and hallway a few times, for perspective. Then remove at least half of what you've packed. :)

Maybe you could give them a choice -- lugging duty, or laundry duty! :D

I don't usually have that amount of time :) Last two times my DH and I have planned our trip (and when I say DH and I.... I mean ME!) I've literally had about 3 weeks. DH says "lets go" and I'm on it!!! The last time I did preplan an ADR at 'Ohana by booking every Friday for 6 weeks during the most likely weeks we'd travel. Other than that I book hotel, air, towncar, a tour & a couple ADRs at around 3 weeks. DH starts packing right away. I'm more of a last minute packer.

I still have the binder with all the information....the itnerary, the maps, the meal reservations...of my trip in 2009. I will most likely be adding to it when I go (hopefully) this fall. Planning consumes me, but I love every bit of it. I make lists of everything and spend too many hours developing senerios as to which park to go to on what day. It is the best moments ever. We all have to be a little DOCD when it comes to Walt Disney World! I'm afraid I might make my friend that I am going with this fall a little nuts...I know she doesn't understand the amount of planning a trip takes (especially when it is roaming all around in my head!).

Hahaha. I often over plan and then we often ditch most of the plan once we get there because I haven't accurately predicted what everyone would want at each moment. Interestingly enough though, the last time we went (it was only for a long weekend so I didn't feel that a crazy plan was needed) I had no plan and folks complained about that too! Figgy, do what you do and just remember to have fun!

... Your fine, I am my family's Disney Dining Guru. I plan it all out so that there will be no issues. And I mean allllll out, to the point of that I got binders that I'm taking with me to school to ensure that what I'm planning is correct. Your's seems less cramped and more open, just take off the shopping list, that should be more spontaneous in my opinion. :)

We stayed at Shades of Green most trips and did one afternoon of laundry most trips to cut down on what we had to take, it really only took 2 hours (one washing and one drying) and we'd be ready for the rest of trip and we only went for 10 days at a time. Keep in mind if you really need something, you can buy it there and take what you know you can't live without, you may have a lot of dirty laundry when you get home but make due while you are there. Once when my twins were 9 months old we left their bag at home and I learned the hard way what it's like to make due with little to nothing, LOL. (Keep in mind I have been ADDICTED to Gymboree since the birth of my first child in 1994).

This sounds like a normal trip to me. I find that if I go crazy obsessing over every detail before I go till I know it backwards and forwards and checking (and double and triple checking) my lists to make sure everything is covered and all our needs are packed allows me to relax when I get to WDW because I know it's all taken care of and I won't have to make any unplanned trips to Walmart (the last thing I want to do when I get to the World).

I never go to Walmart if I can get it somewhere else, just the idea of having to push one of their buggies going clunk, clunk, clunk around that store sets my teeth on edge and would put a damper on our vacation. We were fortunate enough to have use of the little store at SOG for things like band aids and the like, we always made a stop at Publix on the way in too, anything to prevent a trip to the Walmart is perfect trip planning!

I pack 14 outfits for 7 days - you never know what you're going to feel like wearing on any given day- and who wants to do freaking laundry on vacation?!?!?!? As for the counter service places- CHILL OUT WOMAN! You will have a fantastic time no matter where you eat- will not getting a plate or snack from (insert restaurant here) really ruin your trip? I think not :)

No worries Figgy, over-planning is half the fun. I find it helps pass the time until your trip and spreads out the excitement a little longer.

PS. I do love the term DOCD now!

We call those buggies "Miller Buggies" because they follow us to every store we go, no matter where we are.
