I was told in my College writing class I could write about any topic of my choice in my argumentative research paper the papers topic should be a very narrow topic so it would be essay to find pro and cons of both. For instance these are narrow topics

Should all grocery stores be required to use disposable and degradable bags to benefit the environment?

After 2006, only high-definition television will be broadcast, and older television sets will require a type of converter box to interpret the new digital signal. (I would Argue for or against this development).

I wanted to find something very arguable and controversal relating to Walt Disney World any types of ideas would help and then i could try to narrow down the broad question

Thanks very much
Angie

:lookaroun Orrrrr....you could do a paper on whether or not it is important to still have Walt Disney's influence in the parks. There have been many, many arguments on these boards about whether or not Disney's leadership is respecting or disgracing Walt's legacy.

How about the pros and cons of rebuilding/renovating the Pop Century Legendary years section as it relates to the current socioeconomic state of our country? Is it worth it to leave it sit as is, raze the site or restart construction?

Just an idea.

Look up Disneyification or go with Fosse's topic. Don't pick something that only matters to Disney geeks like us. I'd imagine you'll learn more and do better if there are actual implications for society involved.

This would be a tough one, since there's no way to really know what his opinion of Walt Disney World would be today. If you consider that Epcot (the theme park, not the city), DHS, and DAK weren't even in Walt's original plans, you're pretty much stuck having to argue that much of Disney World as it stands today runs contrary to whatever plans Walt had at the time of his death.

Maybe something on the affect Walt Disney World had on the economy of Central Florida and the boom of entertaiment parks there. Seeing how Disney was the first there and places like Universal and SeaWorld came later. What would Central Florida be if Disney did not build there. Remember when Walt discovered the area Orlando was a town now it is a City with huge tourism and one of the largest airports in the country.

It would be interesting to investigate the environmental impact of Disney on the local habitat? How does Reedy Creek help/hinder and how does having so many people in such a "small" space impact the environment. You might be able to see how RC offsets this impact and how they protect the wild animals living inside WDW borders. Just a suggestion! *And relieved that I no longer have to write essays or research papers:D*

I love the suggestions it is just that i need to write at least a 7 pageresearch paper on the topic and i dont feel like the suggestions will have enough info. on them. Any non disney related suggestionst that seem fun?

one of the last research papers i wrote in may before i graduated was on the pros and cons of NASA continueing a manned space program. This is current because of the close retirement of the space shuttles and the initiation of the new manned space missions in i believe it was 2015 or something. There are a lot of opinions for and against having manned space flights so seven pages should be a breeze.

How about exploring the culture of wish fulfillment that was created by Walt Disney and it's impact on our world. Simply didn't exist before Walt.

One could argue that Walt Disney's vision for EPCOT is un/attainable in the status quo because of our reliance upon the automobile and in/ability to accept mass transit. This could include background on Walt's idea of having city centers serviced by wedway people movers and monorails while still retaining the traditional 1950's suburban landscape (eg single family houses away from city centers). You can watch the original video pitch for EPCOT to the Florida Legislature online and go from there. If it's a writing class you probably don't have to cite very much so there's a place for opinion. The topic could also be expanded beyond Disney to include analysis on why Americans won't/don't embrace mass transit and use EPCOT as an example.

Alternatively you could argue that the mission of the Disney Corporation should be one of long term brand loyalty by focusing on quality of product rather than short term shareholder profits (eg those generated by dropping carbon copies of attractions, pumping out sequels and merchandise ad nauseam).

Keep us posted on what you decide.

Similar to a previous idea but what about the impact and affect of competition to Disney?

You could include how competition forces innovation and development in a race to stay at the top of the ratings or how competition could reduce attendence and lower budgets for development. Competition could be local (i.e. Universal, Sea World) or international (Dubai World). It could even be competition from other Disney parks (i.e. DLP drawing European guests away from WDW by offering an alternative).

There should be plenty of histroy for this to draw examples from. Look at how Disney responded to the news that Universal were moving into Orlando.

I like that. Plus, if you choose comparisons to broader issues, the U.S. has already "restarted construction", as it were, of the economy. Use it as a start then delve into leaving it stagnant versus demolishing the whole plans.

We're about 10 years late to this debate, but that means you'd find lots of material on it...

Disney's Animal Kingdom- can a theme park be trusted with animals?

Cons - ask PETA

Pros - ask Disney or World Wildlife Foundation

Read married to the mouse, it will give you lots to talk about, like the tenuious but symbiotic relationship WDW has with the surrounding area
