thanks...we really need the moisture up here in Flagstaff...7,000 feet, one of the largest Ponderosa Pine forests around...and...the ground fuel is so dry we're advised to have an evacuation plan just in case.

i am the type to research anything...especially a vacation like this! so far i have noticed that a resort called POR seems to be popular...i think it is Disney's Port Orleans Riverside ? i am thinking to not spend too much money, but i want to have a fun nine day trip...so...something is telling me i just might spend more than i am thinking...

Welcome! I used to live in Flagstaff - it's definitely God's country!

thanks. i credit my wife for moving us to Flag. it is such a great place to raise a family. we moved from Tempe and i still remember her saying we're moving to Flagstaff...i looked on the internet and saw housing is 30% more and starting salaries are 20% less...she said...we'll make it work...and she was right...she was always right in guiding us.

We are down in the heat but Flag is so beautiful. I was just there a few weeks ago and it takes my breath away every time.

unfortunately only once. but it was great. our neighbors took us in a storage room of fossils not open to the public and gave us a tour. they do some kind of archaeological field work, currently a dinosaur that lived in the water, they discovered it around Page.

I used to hang out there a lot - they do some amazing things there. Good people! The Hopi show and the Navajo show are fantastic!

I went on a white water raft trip with a group from there - it was great fun!

How far is Lee's Ferry? It's on my list of things I want to do, but I haven't seriously looked into it.

it is about a two hour and twenty minute drive to the river from Flag. it is in Glen Canyon National Rec Area. it is so cool, all the marble canyons, pedestal rocks (huge boulders sitting on top of a pedestal of rock/dirt), Indian ruins, sand stone buildings and of course the river. the river is a tail water fishery...the water comes out of the bottom of glen canyon dam so the river's temp is about 46 F all year round...the rainbow thrive. it's considered a blue ribbon trout river.

john lee and his wife built a ranch and operated a ferry across the river. the ranch is built along the tributary The Paria River and was used for farming. most of the structures have been preserved. lots to do there. lots of history too. there are three lodges there and i recall one has really good food, The Vermilion Cliffs Lodge
