Hi all

After browsing these forums for days, I've finally signed up!
I'm Chrissy, Mum/Mom (hehe) to a nearly 4 yr old princess and 1 yr old monkey!

After a seriously rubbish year so far we have booked a reasonably last minute (well 3 weeks notice) trip to Orlando for 12 days and CANT WAIT!

Look forward to hearing any tips for those with 2 pre-schoolers and wheelchair users (MIL is coming and needs a chair)

Chrissy

Welcome!

If you could, give us a little more info on your trip logistics. Are you staying on property? Will you have a car? Have you been to WDW before (recently)
The place is so big, that if you aren't prepared it can easily overwhelm. It's also good to have a bit of a plan to help make the most of your days.

I can't give you much advice with wheelchairs except that this is probably the most wheelchair accessable vacation spot in the world. If she can manage without a wheelchair for short distances, you may want to consider making arrangements at Disney rather than having to transport your own. Likewise with strollers. Some prefer using their own strollers, but it can become a bit of a chore getting them on an off busses and other transportation. we would just rent strollers at the parks (they are definitely needed with the territory you will cover.

Sorry...that would be helpful!
Staying in a villa in Sunrise Lakes, Clermont, will have a big car and I have been to WDW before but as my signature says, it 15 years ago!

We're not bringing our own stroller from the UK, but there are 2 umbrella ones available at our villa, so was going to bring one of them (4 yr old can sit on Nanny's lap when she gets tired...LOL)

Thanks for the welcomes....

Hubby has asked about fireworks at WDW...are there some on every day or is it certain days, certain parks...if so how do I found out when they are on

When you enter the parks, in addition to maps, you can pick up a schedule for the week that gives you times for fireworks, parades, performances etc. Its a very helpful reference.

A lot has changed since you were last at WDW, including two additional parks!
While I don't try to plan out every second, it would be a good idea for you to pick up one of the Disney travel planning books, like the Unofficial guide or even one of the official ones. You can get an idea of what is available at the various parks and what is of particular interest to you.

I am a great proponent of getting an early start to the day, getting to the more popular attractions without crowds and getting FP's for later. Then taking it easier during the heat of the afternoon. If you have a desire to do sit down dinners, consider making some reservations now. Walk up seating is near impossible at many places.

Definitely make your advance reservations for wherever you want to eat NOW and not when you get there. We're going to be there about the same time, and I haven't had much of a problem getting what I want, but I haven't called in about 2 weeks (I'm a tweeker when it comes to our schedule).

With little ones, just go slow and be ready to rest. We've got a 5 yr old and 10 mo old, and we chose to stay on property on the monorail for this very reason. Just be willing to be flexible! Since you're going to be there for a while, this is probably pretty easy.

If you can get your hands on the Unofficial Guide to WDW, that's my favorite. They are a little cynical, but I agree with most of what they say.

And of course, have fun!

Thanks everyone and thanks for the tips...
Due to jetlag, we'll probably all be up about 3am so early starts wont be a problem!

Great news about fireworks too

We're aiming to do all the kiddy/family stuff during the day, go back to villa for dinner, put kids to bed, then hubby and I go back about 7pm/8pm to do some scary rides...do you think thats feasible?

Some "scary rides" also offer "parent swap" where one goes on, then as they return, the other hands the little darlings off and they go on. Just another option....definitely not as much fun as riding together.

Main problem that you have with coming back later like that is wait time, and FP's will be done for the day.

Yes - but more practical to do the child swap as ClemsonTigger has just said.

When you consider travel time back to your villa, kids to bed, travel time back to the parks and then standing in line for the ride(s), you're going to be clock watching for getting back to the villa (again)

As your kids are so young I assume that you will have MIL staying at the villa with them - why can't MIL watch them in the parks while you do "scary rides" duting the day ??
