Height requirements?

I`ve noticed that 42 inches is the requirement on some rides. Our DGD is a little over 40" with her tennis shoes on. we are going in less than a month so I don`t see her growing that much. How strict are they? I was thinking about some mouse ears to make her taller.

Actually, there aren't any rides with a 42" height requirement. There are lots at 40", a few at 44", and RnRC is 48". See this list:

http://allears.net/tp/rr.htm

And the CM's checking are quite strict. If she is 40", she will be tall enough for most everything she would want to ride, anyway.

There are a lot of people (me including) who do not think its right to try and "sneak" those under the age restriction onto the ride. The restrictions are there for a reason. =] Think of it as another excuse to visit WDW =]

It`s not an age thing, she is just small for her age. She really wants to go on Soarin and I thought the requirement was 42" tall. I`ve been on Soarin and I really think she`s gonna love it. I`m not using her as an excuse to visit WDW. About the ears comment, I was just joking. I guess I should`ve put a :animwink: after it, My bad.

Sorry I didnt mean to use the term 'underage' - rather 'under height requirements'. Disney, and other theme parks, dont put height restrictions in for s***s and giggles. They are there for the protection for those smaller and other riders.

Although you may feel she may be missing out, they are there for a reason and I think everyone should respect that. I didnt mean you are using your daughter for an excuse to visit, what I meant was that you should use that fact that she may not be able to ride all the rides she wants as an excuse to make ANOTHER trip back to the world.

Very strict. My daughter made the 40", just barely, measured at Target on their toddler height chart, but didn't make it for Soarin' with Disney's measuring stick. She was slightly disappointed, but the baby alligators in Living With the Land made up for it.

If she is 40 inches, she will be OK with Soarin, which I believe is a 40 inch requirement. We were there in Dec and my son, who is also small for his age was just 40 inches and was able to go on it as well as mostly everything else. We didn't try to sneak him on anything that he wasn't tall enough for, but there were only a few places that checked his height. I don't think soarin was one of them, but they did check each time on test track and a few others. Have a great time.

Yep, they are strict.

They are doing it for your safety (and as a CYA for themselves)

On onw trip my youngest was almost 40" exact, she could stand under the bar, but it touched her head. They let her on everything but EE (EE was still "new" at the time, about 2-3 weeks after it opened). No big deal, we just rode it next time.

Though height restrictions aren't arbitrary, they aren't necessarily safety-specific either. The height requirement is generally determined after the ride is constructed. It's based on the youngest age of a guest the ride will appeal to and the average height of a guest at that age. Most safety restraints can pretty much secure any body. The safety has to do mainly with the forces exerted on the ride which can jostle a smaller child around more. While there is a point where a child can be too small for the restraint to work, theoretically all the rides at Disney would be safe for a kid of around 36"...except for maybe Rock 'n' Rollercoaster.

One of the rollercoasters I once operated had a minimum height requirement of 42" since it had opened. Then all of a sudden one season management raised it to 48" to put it in line with similar rides in the rest of the chain. I'll tell you, it wasn't fun telling parents that although their kid was tall enough the previous season, he wasn't tall enough this season.

We're taking my DS this September and he has about 1 1/2" to go until he's 40". That's without sneakers. With sneakers, he only has about 1" to go until he's 40". Does anyone know if the measuring rulers at the rides take shoes into account? Do they add a half inch to the height of the ruler or is it actually just 40" tall? He's growing pretty fast, so I think he'll make it to the height, but I'm wondering how much leeway we have and I'd like to know before we go whether or not we're going to have to do the baby swap.

We just returned from our trip and we had a Blast! Our DGD was exactly 40" tall and was able to ride Soarin and she loved it. She had her sneakers on and she was checked three times by three different cms. It was close each time but she made it. She is 4 and a half years old and other than the castle and the princess stuff, Soarin was the highlight of her trip.:sohappy:

Glad to hear she had a great time! Did she ride any of the other 40" rides? (Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Test Track, Star Tours?) If she did, what did she think of them? My son will be turning 4 during our trip in September, so he'll be about the same age as your DGD and hopefully tall enough to ride. He says he's excited about the rides, but I'm curious of what other kids his age think of them. He loved Barnstormer, so hopefully that's a good sign.

Disney is very strict with the height requirements.
ooh, i disagree....
I have seen quite often kids just under the "bar" make it on.
The best thing to do is use shoes that give a bit of height.
Our son was just under the requirement for space. However, we found a pair of newbalance kids shoes that added quite abit of height.
Obviously, if one is WAY short then forget about it.
But for those that are almost there, go for it.

The measurement is done with shoes on, period.
If the shoes get him on, he's on!

I know this sounds ridiculous, but I measured him today and he has to grow about 1/16 of an inch each week until our trip if he's going to meet that height requirement. I'm making sure he drinks his milk every day. :)

We've been waiting for him to be able to go on these rides since he was born and I'm really hoping it happens for this trip. Of course, if it doesn't happen, well then I guess we'll just have to go back in the spring. :drevil:

Some CMs are very strict. One time a CM measured my son and he looked tall enough. The cm said "wait a minute" grab a piece of paper slid it between my sons head and the bar thing and said "oh no your not tall enough the paper fits maybe next time " I could believe it. All well its a funny memory now.

That's kind of mean.
