Having second thoughts about $300 for the night.

Booked a trip for december for my family last month. I am having trouble dealing with the price of the room due to the fact that our children are still young. 1yo boy and 6 yo girl. Has anyone stayed at The Horizons by Marriot?

I am booked currently at WL for about $300 a night. After doing some research I found a Marriott timeshare that I can get a 2 bed with kitchen for $645 for the entire week. I know its about the convience of just getting on the boat and getting to the MK with my 1 yo and 6 yo but I am just torn between saving about $1500 for the week. About $5200 to stay on property (lodging, tickets, food and souvieners) to about $3700 (lodging, tickets, food, car, parking, gas and sounviners...........just so torn. Want the disney experience but t hinking about saving it for a few years until both kids are old enough to REALLY enjoy being just a boat ride from the parks.

If this makes any difference the WL is the favorite resort of young kids according to many of the guides I've read. Also, I don't think the experience will be wasted on them. Kids appreciate more than we think they do. It surprises me what the little people in my life remember.

Before you make the decision to stay off-site, and looks like you are leaning towards that, just price what it would cost you for the wk. at POR or POFQ. Cant blame you for wanting to save money, I guess, but the moderate resorts are so nice. Our fave deluxe is WL and fave moderate is POR. either way, have a magical family vacation.........

Reallly want to save money but.

Thanks again to all who post replys. Very helpful. I am still leaning on staying at Disney. I don't think staying at a MOD resort would be a good plan. With 2 young ones being a boat ride away to the MK is the biggest benefit. Staying at a MOD resort is a bus ride and who knows how long that takes back and forth.

Conveience is a big factor. I don't think you will feel like you wasted $$$ after you have the WL. My husband the economics teacher says consider the price difference of all of your options. What could you do better with the money? How much does the opportunity to stay at WL cost you? How do the extra costs stack up against the opportunities presented by the WL vs another resort such POR?

about chaning to a resort off property was the fact it was a 2 bedroom timeshare I was going to get for $645 for the entire week. Marriott Horizons. Good reviews and only about 10 min away. Thanks again for all who have given suggestions.

Don't let that fool you. You can hardly even get to the parks from any resorts ON property in only 10 minutes, regardless of what transportation you take.

If you want to go to the Magic Kingdom, you will have the 10 minute drive to get onto property. Once on property, you have to actually get to the MK parking lot. And then wait for a tram. And then take the ferry or monorail over to the gates at MK.

This whole process can easily take over 40 minutes unless you are very, very lucky.

Or you can walk for about 2 minutes from your room at the WL to the dock, maybe wait a few mintues for a boat, and then be at the MK gates about 10 minutes after boarding your boat!

In case you can't tell, I'm a HUGE WL fan and think it is the greatest resort ever!!!!

We all understand not wanting to spend that much $ per night. I firmly suggest not going off site, especially with the little ones. It's alsot tougher to take breaks in the afternoons when you are off site. You will easily add 30 minutes to get to/from MK if you have a car. The buses are not bad at al if that's why you are shying away form moderate resort, we've used them many times. You may even want to look into the suites at Music then you get 2 bedrooms too.

Port Orleans Riverside is wonderful. It is reasonably priced as well. Consider this before staying off property.
1. Extra Magic Hours
2. Dining Plan
3. Disney transportation vs. other transportation vs. driving
4. 24/7 Disney magic
5. Stacy's top 7 show (silly and cheesy show but it really makes me feel very much like I'm at WDW)
6. wake-up calls from Disney characters
7. flexibility to go back to the resort and rest without a huge waste of travel time
8. resort refillable mugs
9. packages sent back to your room from in park purchases
10. towel animals from mousekeeping

Just a boatride away from DTD!!!

I love that resort so much, out of all the mods...POR is indeed the best one I've stayed at. I miss it!!!

A true statement! Traveling has always been the best gift that I have given my kids. They always seem to remember more about the trips that we have taken over the years vs. the toys that we have given them.

I am lucky enough to be staying in a friends luxury timeshare and only have to pay the transfer of $175 for the week if my accommodation's weren't so inexpensive I always stay on property. Hands down better when you have little ones
