Well, here is my 2 cents. My oldest son, now 11 went to WDW the first time while he was still in-utero! LOL, I was about 7 months pregnant but I still managed to waddle all around WDW. His second trip he was about 5-6 months old and I will NEVER forget the wonder in his eyes, he never cried, never fussed, he just looked at everything. Today he is a huge WDW fan just like me!

My youngest boy took his first trip shortly after turning 1 but due to bad weather, we weren't able to enjoy the trip much. Not because of him, just the weather. Well, since then we have been to Disney at least 5 times (more like 8) and he has always been a pure joy to have around! He loves it there and he DOES remember. For some reason, when he saw Spaceship Earth it made a huge impression on him. He was only but 1 1/2 when he started pointing at a commercial on TV that showed SE and kept screaming, "Mommy, mommy!" I just about died when I realized, "Oh my God, he remembers!" To this day (he is almost 3) I get that reaction from him whenevr he sees it! So much in fact that his 3rd Birthday party will be inside Epcot for IllumiNations in the UK. What can I say? The boy loves Epcot just like his momma!

And by the way, about not leaving your baby with a babysitter, trust me, I said the SAME thing, and then I realized that I really missed being alone with my husband, even if just for a few hours. We have used Fairy Godmothers several times and the kids love them! Just a thought...

And finally, congrats on the baby!:sohappy:

Ok, understand I am not saying I would not leave my kids witha asitter here at home . I am saying I would not take them to Disney only to leave them with a sitter.

my son will be about one and a half when we go next year. too young? im hoping not:veryconfu

We took our daughter last year and she was about 18 months and while she may not remember it we will always have those memories of her screaming with joy and dancing and having a blast everytime she saw a character or watched a parade. I am so glad we took her instead of leaving her home with my parents. She loved it!!!!:)

Don't forget though that kids can have a great time almost anywhere (within reason) and when they're very young, they probably won't know that being with an in room sitter isn't supposed to be less fun than being in the parks.

Our friends have taken their son at 1 1/2- 2 yrs. Sure, he won't remember it, but he did have fun. As long as you go at his pace and know that you're not going to see much of anything, you will probably be fine. You know your son better than anyone so just do what works for him.

We did the same thing, and it was a different Magic Kingdom experience for us. Instead of Splash Mountain, we spent time jumping on rocks and swinging on bridges at Tom Sawyer's Island. We rode the Carousel and the train around the park - things we would not do otherwise, and haven't really done since the kids got older.

Do you know what else we did? We took lots of video of the kids. The kids don't remember the trips (but we do), but they love watching the video of their little selves in awe of all that was going on around them.

Some people say you shouldn't take your kids until they are a certain age. I say some people aren't qualified to tell you what to do with your kids. They can only offer an opinion, but there are good reasons for some people to go with young children. Like Erika said, just plan to do things at the child's pace and you can have a great trip.

Great story! I can totally relate -- our son was conceived at the WL over Xmas (it was definatley Disney magic as my wife suffered a miscarriage 4 months earlier). We came back in May when she was 5 months pregnant and then again a month and a half after our little guy's birth. As for your son's memory, that's fantastic. Recent studies have shown that childrencan remember down to 18 momths. The key appears to be reminding them of the experience by asking questions and showing pictures, movies, sounds from the event.

I have heard a lot of people talk of waiting until kids are 7 or 8. We took our 3 year old and 6 month old last year for four days and had an absolute blast. We did a few kid swaps - I rode Space Mtn and Splash Mtn once each instead of 4-5 times, and passed on BTMR, but did not feel slighted.

We had such a good time that we are going again in October, the 4 year old is now 40 inches so with the kid swap he can double dip on rides if he is so inclined.

My son remembers a lot about the first trip, but this will only lay the foundation for years to come.

A big part of the whole experience is the parent's viewing the park in a whole new light. I now just get choked up on Main Street, where it used to start at the statue of Mikey and Walt. :animwink:
