Have you ever been lied to?

This is an odd one, but there's been a couple of times that I've been lied to by a Cast Member that have irked me a bit.

One night at Epcot, late after finishing dinner at San Angel, we decided to walk clockwise around World Showcase. When we got to Germany, a few CMs approached us and said we had to turn back. When I said we needed to exit out of the International Gateway, we were told that it was actually less distance to go around the other way. When I offered to place a wager on it, we we're told that actually they just weren't allowed to let people by that way anymore.

The next one is more egregious though it involves a lie on my part as well. One night a parade had just gotten to the end of Main Street and headed into Liberty Square. We had Peter Pan fast passes that had expired 20 minutes ago, and we were waiting at the rope to go the back way through Liberty Square around to Pan. Cast Members seemed to want to shoo people away from the ropes, and asked us where we needed to go. I said Hall of Presidents because I needed to walk past it to get to Pan. The CM told me that the fastest way to get to HOP was to turn back and go through Adventureland. Within 10 second they let everyone pass through into Liberty Square.

We did make it on Pan. When they started checking return time, I learned quickly to have my wife ask the CMs to let us on. She seems to have better luck!

Nothing can stop me from loving every day we spend at WDW, but those kinds of interactions bother me when they happen.

Has anyone else ever been told rediculous lies by CMs?

We had seen Ariel and Cinderella together meeting guests near Art of Animation one day, and the next day, we went to go see if Ariel was there (it was roughly around the same time), and we stopped by a CM who tried to corral us into the line for Art of Animation rather than to the left of her where we had seen Ariel previously. She acted as if we were just clueless guests "No, no folks-Come this way-you're in line for Art of Animation!" We said, "No, we just wanted to see if Ariel is out today." She looked at us as if we all had green skin "Ariel NEVER meets guests here, and can only be found in Magic Kingdom's new Fantasyland!" We told her we had seen her 24 hours prior, and she insisted we were mistaken. Maybe she didn't remember that Ariel has legs for half the movie too and isn't always confined to her grotto...

My guess for this one is that they were characters in training. Character training can happen virtually anywhere, in the most bizarre of places, often for just one set and then never again. A cast member unaware that a particular character was being trained somewhere might well be dumbfounded that it had happened.

The other ones here sound like they may have been little white lies. :(

The staff lies. The managers lie. The company lies.

Being lied to by Disney was surprising to me once upon a time. I thought they were better than that.

But, being lied to by Disney is not one of my bigger problems in life. I stuck them I the "Liar" category, along with most companies (and people) and I moved along.

I think a lot of CMs try to answer a question regardless of whether they are right or not. Many like to think they are Disney Experts. Most are not and their college process is a joke. I just grin and bear it when it happens and love conversing with the CMs that do get it and love Disney. I try to remember or jot down their name, where they were working and when. These individuals deserve the praise. Most of the time, WDW receives correspondences about bad experiences. I like to reward those that are positive.

Never been lied to but asking a question about transportation can get let's say interesting. Some poor CM with no sense of direction sent me from MK to HS by way of a resort and DTD. I didn't follow his advice or I'd still be riding a bus! We drove that trip!

I'm not saying that lying to guest is a good idea. Obviously, some guest, like us, know better and catch it when CMs do it. But, think about the CMs perspective. Think about how many people ask CMs rediculous things everyday or argue with the CM when they have to tell people something guest will not like. A little fib can be the path of least resistance sometimes.

A little fib can be the path of least resistance. That ones going to Father O'Reily.:)

I don't know, a lot of these don't sound like flat out lies. They sound like one of two things, either the CM is misinformed or under-informed and unaware OR the CM is trying to help or prevent a scene. The first post mentioned the Liberty Square incident. The CM may have been new to parade control or wasn't sure when there would be a gap to let people through. By giving you different directions they were actually trying to save you time as they were unsure when they themselves could let you through. If they had said "Oh, just wait here" and they weren't able to let you through for another 10 minutes, they would have risked not only messing up your night but also being screamed at over the incident.

The only lie I've ever heard at Disney is that silly claim about the wire at the castle being a line in the sky drawn by Pan. Everyone knows that's Prince Charming's wire to get cable in the castle! Sheeeeesh :p

I was once told by a CM in MK that the ONLY time I even had a chance of seeing Drizella and Anastasia was the last couple days of October (28th-31st I think I was told...)

Your guess is correct. I was working there that day. If I hadn't I'd've had no idea they were there. Plus, four, thirty minute appearances one day out of 365 is pretty much the same as never appearing there.
