have any UK or European visitors taken their cars with them? I'm serious...

I periodically see them around town, and always assumed they were military (probably Navy) who had been stationed overseas and shipped the cars home. Military personel (at least when we were active duty) didn't have to change registration/license if they had a mailing address elsewhere.

We moved from a state that assessed a yearly tax on cars, so we switched registration/license ASAP.

Mumsy dearest,

Jacksonville is one of the largest automobile receiving ports in the world ;) When dad sent and received cars for his business, they always came through Jacksonville. :)

You have to remember as well that a lot of the Europeans live in the Orlando area for around 6 months of the year and then back home for the rest of the year. Because of that, they'll just ship their cars here.

I see the British cars and lots of RHD cars around town all the time. Nothing new since I moved here.

Thanks for that knowledge scott. I had no clue that Central Florida has the largest amount of British Citizens of any city in the United States, nor was I aware of the hassles of shipping a motor vehicle across the atlantic, insuring it once in the states, nor the inconveniences of driving a right hand drive car in a left hand drive nation.

Thank you much.

But how do you get them past inspection? European emmissions standards are much different than the US, and anything I have heard up here about people importing cars has been a nightmare about getting them approved.

Temporary 1 year tourist exemptions... there's a 50 year old international pact signed by most countries in the world that allows for this
