Have any storms stopped you from going to Disney World?

In light of recent storms, such as Tropical Storm Debbie and the recent historic "straight line winds storm" for over 600 miles derecho, I was wondering if anyone has stories and perhaps pictures to share about having to cancel their Disney vacations due to the weather. I fortunately have never experienced this. This also brings up the point as to whether or not you purchase vacation insurance. By the way, I hope everyone is safe!:)

Heading for the great escape.
We were lucky in that when a hurricane hit we were already in Orlando, many flights from the UK were cancelled. I always keep an eye on WESH storm tracker in the run up to my trips. Between that and bloody volcanoes its enough to make you take a boat.

Now theres an idea Disney.....

Our first trip in sept 04 was cancelled the day befor we flew out due to a hurricane ( can't remember which one ). We had to rebook for 10 days later and got a extra night for £100 less which worked out well, then a hurricane hit while we were there, still best holiday we have had!

My DW and I were on our honeymoon. The flight was supposed to leave at 8am. We knew hurricane Wilma was going to hit FL and checked the flight status before leaving the house. The flight was cancelled after we got to the airport. All of the other flights were cancelled for the afternoon. We finally got on a flight that night and arrived in WDW around 11pm. The airline put our luggage on the plane that never left the airport and we didn't get it til the next day.

When my DH and I got married back in 2004, we had a hurricane come up the East Coast (not as bad as Irene), but enough that it poured on our wedding day. When we left for the World two days later, we were told our flight out of Bradley was one of the first to get out to go to Orlando. We understood when we got there. Our limo driver was taking to AKL and was showing us steel billboards split in half, lights knocked over, etc. It was scary to see that storm two days after it happened, I could only imagine what it was like there while it was going on.

That was during May of 2009. It rained the entire 2 weeks we were there, that picture is a sprinkle compared to what it did a few days during the trip :)

I've never worried about weather in Florida as much as weather in our hometown. When we lived in the NYC area, I worried that winter weather would keep us grounded the one time we went in January. It turned out to be milder back home that week than it was in Florida. No trouble at all. However, last year we were set to fly home on October 29th and a freak snowstorm in the northeast canceled our flight. We ended up staying at Disney World an extra two days.

Now that we live in Montana, I'm a little concerned that snow here could more easily affect our usual late October/early November travel dates. We'll see. I doubt we'll use trip insurance, though.

We weren't there for a tropical system, but last October, we were there during a huge 2 day nonstop rain system. The first night, the rain started and POURED! We were staying at CBR and made it to Old Port Royale before the rain got too bad. We luckily had ressies and had dinner then let the 13 yo DS o play in the arcade. Because of the rain, they turned off the machines so all the kids could play and no have to play. I bet my son was in there for three hours and loved every minute! It was a wet few days but the attendance at the parks was a little lighter and we had our ponchos and water shoes and ENJOYED it!

It's kinda the opposite for me. I would actually plan a trip to WDW if a big storm was going to hit. I guess it's because I live in south Florida, and I could just drive there and back whenever I wanted. It's just so much more fun and exciting for me and my friends when there's pouring rain and lightning out. I remember when a tropical storm hit, or maybe it was just the outer bands of the storm, and we were running around Fantasyland and Tomorrowland like lunatics. It was creepy and fun at the same time. :D Yeah, we're weird.

We were there in 2000 I think with hurricane Fred. Just a lot of rain, but it never stopped us. We even had drinks at the outdoor bar at POLY! Then in 2009 we just had a blast with a storm at the POLY for spirit of aloha. Show cancelled and free ponchos. Best part of the night was running in the rain. Kids had fun as well as us parents.

No way weather is stopping me, as long as my plane can land. Weather is not altering my mental therapy. I'll take a poncho filled day at WDW over beatiful skies at home any day ! And I only purchase the insurance in case of some family emergency or I got injured at work.

Our power is still out from Friday night's storm, along with hundreds of thousands of other people's. There were still fallen trees blocking lanes on major roads 2 days after the storm. We had a lot of branches down, and a large tree came down one house over. It pulled power lines down with it, and started a fire that burned itself out after a minute or so.
