I wonder if it is cast members that sell the majority of these on ebay. They just use their employee discount and take home a case or two.

Although that does happen with some merch, CMs weren't given a discount on the ghost mugs. No AP discounts either. Everyone paid full price.

As stated by Disney Parks Blog and other social media sites, UPDATE 9/13/16: Due to overwhelming popularity, the Hitchhiking Ghost Tiki Mugs have sold out at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar. A limited restock will materialize closer to Halloween.

As stated above, no. Cast Members don't get discounts on the event-style mugs, not to mention they went out in the blink of an eye. Most of the people that were eBay hounds were just that - scalpers and human garbage using all their means (dragging the entire family etc) to buy as many as their grubby hands could hold.

I can ask. Even though he's worked at the hotel for 20 years, he doesn't know anyone at the bar. He's going to go over and see what can be done, I'll see if he can have them hold 2.

The staff at Sam's seems to think they'll have them in stock again soon.

I'm curious about that I know when I went they were told they were hopeful. Of course, some of the staff was saying some of their mugs were going to be shipped to WDW which was proven incorrect (the mug color is different and the bottom is stamped with their Trader Sam name).

I hope more come out so the prices drop- i'd like a WDW one to go with my DL one

My CM buddy actually just texted me about them as well. He's picking one up for me too. According to him, there will be 3,000 available...so those folks that spent a ton on ebay...nice job kids.

Collectibles only have a short lifespan on high prices. Once the item is fully at retail things settle down. Once it leaves retail, the price goes back up until replaced with a better, newer version.

I was able to score a couple. Showed up to Trader Sams around 1pm last Tuesday and there was a line of maybe 8 people. They had 3 registers outside and the line only took 10 about minutes. I wonder if they sold out that day? Anyway, the mugs are pretty cool. Although, the mugs they sold in Florida have a blue tint to them and look a little cooler, even if it makes them look less like a traditional tiki.
