Do what I did. I didn't open my eyes on it until I was 24  Finally DH playfully yelled at me saying "THEYRE ALL FAKE-ITS A RIIIIDE" and I was like "Fine you're right...I'll look next time". Opened my eyes and never looked back.

The pop up ones are startling so I try to focus on other details since there's so much to look at.

Well, there's not going on the ride or just go as a single rider. There's also preparing yourself for it and knowing where they are and what's going to happen.

We all have our things we're scared of or don't like. No sense in putting her through something that is going to cause her issues. Also, I bet she'll be thrilled to see the way you portrayed her to us here... you may wind up being scared of her.. lol...

They're not scary if you keep your eyes closed through that section! No harm in that, and refraining from loud, constant screaming on HM is a demonstration of good etiquette. (I'm a little biased in this regard -- my children's first-ever ride on HM was badly marred by a teenager in the neighboring Doom Buggy who thought it was hilarious to scream incessantly throughout the entire attraction, drowning out the soundtrack.)

EDIT: Also, you mentioned swearing. If there's a chance that you... er, I mean, she, is going to scream expletives within the hearing range of small children every time a head pops up, then please do whatever is necessary (including but not limited to the use of a blindfold) to avoid that.

At least she gets on the ride with you...that's got to be dedication! My oldest son, whom we've taken on HM since he was a young babe, has developed an odd fear of it and at 12 yrs, I'm hoping that this next trip he will ride it without squeezing the blood out of my hand :(. If she was seriously afraid, why would she even ride? Could be all a ruse and she just wants you to wrap your manly arms around her and protect her;)
