My family and I always get disgusted looks because we're locals and therefore we know that the line is not single file but rather FILL ALL OF THE AVAILABLE SPACE. The entire queue from the mosh pit on is like a a cattle drive until you (and the people you're with if you have them properly leashed) and squeezed back into single file. I need to start bringing my electric prod with me...

Exactly. People will stand in front of the entrance doors in a little group or "line". If there's space, we'll walk along the wall and stand right beside them (usually right next to Leota's tombstone). The people who were crowded in behind them sometimes give us weird looks.

We also head immediately to the "exit" door of our stretch room, so we can avoid the cattle herd from there to the queue. I'm claustrophobic, and I HATE that system.

Looks like the que is going to be longer than I thought!

That's great! I've always thought the 1000th ghost would be a guest that got trampled by a tour group while trying to get in line.

Ah, I see. In all the previous photos, the equipment has been sitting idle in every one. That, plus the large assortment of extremely bright lights mounted to the queue and at the top of the hill, caused me to assume they didn't work during the day.
Actually the lighting you see on the queue's roof was used for the previous graveyard scene.

After riding the DL version several times this summer I now dread (more than ever) the mosh pit that is the WDW version.

I've also wondered many times why the WDW version is so hectic and crazed, when the Disneyland version is noticeably well-managed and orderly. What I don't enjoy is the WDW Mansion CM's bellowing and barking orders at everyone in the queue; totally out of character and totally rude.

At Disneyland the maid or butler staffing the similar positions quietly and politely shepherds the large groups of people onto the front porch, then into the foyer, then into the stretching rooms, and then the attraction design itself takes over from there. At WDW it's a screaming hostess barking orders to a maddening crowd who don't get it.

Let's hope this new queue at WDW solves some of those problems, and they gave Disneyland a call and asked how to manage a Haunted Mansion pre-show queue. This new queue construction has all sorts of possibilities for interactive special effects and such! :animwink:

I've always hated the barking hostess yelling rude orders to people who could take some nice service in the Florida heat!!!

No kidding!

Maybe that's why it sticks out so badly, because these CM's are dressed up like elegant, formal servants who should be welcoming us graciously into this grand mansion. But instead the WDW Mansion CM's just sort of bellow and bark and bully in a manner that is completely out of character and ruins whatever mood the Imagineers who built the elaborate attraction were trying to create in the first place.

Then you fly 2,500 miles to the west and visit the Disneyland Mansion the next day, as I've done, and the Haunted Mansion maids and butlers at Disneyland are serenely and politely welcoming big crowds into the foyer every two minutes without once raising a ruckus or creating queue confusion.

It's a bizarre study in contrasts between the DL and WDW operation. Let's hope this new queue construction allows the Florida CM's to follow the lead of their California cousins. A wonderful attraction like Haunted Mansion deserves a better welcome and opening act.

this dont look like que line expansion, it looks more like a sceanery expansion. im thinking their maybe adding a mausoleum or something. by running the que like this would bring you too close to the show building, so unless heavily landscaped, would become visable. the que as it is now is plenty long enough to hold a large crowd. id keep watching this to see what their building soon.

It resembles the DL queue expansion, with the walls surrounding a flat area. Hopefully, instead of posts and chains running you back and forth through a patio, maybe we'll just have one meandering path through a new and improved graveyard.

They'll be able to hide the show building with a higher berm up there and a few bushes.
