I believe "the secret that has haunted the house" that the Evers family must break is this very fact. His wife killed herself and he then hanged himself. Think of the Evers family being like any one of us going into the haunted mansion and learning its backstory.

Well from what i just read a few mintues ago, apparently the curse is connected to the two and their deaths.

How and in what way, it didnt say. Oh well. Guess I'll have to wait and see.
