Haunted Mansion closing for refurbishment in December and Yankee Trader refurb extended

Well thankfully I'm visiting in November this year as usually it's December. Anyone notice anything out of sorts that would require an 18 day HM refurbishment? Or is this just cleaning and on ride camera install?

Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll bulldoze the interactive queue

YES!

And maybe they'll also get rid of those blurry, often out-of-sync new Hitchhiking Ghost projections, and bring back the old Ghosts. I have no problem with rides being changed and refurbed if the result is an improvement. But the new Ghosts are NOT an improvement. They look like what they are - CGI-animation on screens, and they aren't nearly as convincing or as fun as the old effect. We can dream, anyway...

As for the Yankee Trader being rebuilt into a Haunted Mansion gift shop...well, I'll miss the old Trader, but I think the conversion is a really great idea. I agree with others here that it's high time the Mansion got its own gift shop. And the Trader's design already resembles the Mansion, in a way - I bet it won't take too much to make it look awesome-creepy. I can't wait to see what TDO does with it.

I actually like the new ghosts.

He's the main character of a much-anticipated movie.

I think this movie isn't so much "aniticipated" as it is "doubtful". I give it about the same chances as Hatty making a debut at the park.

For a 2+ month refurb I'm going to venture a guess and say: paint, lighting, speaker upgrades, doombuggy overhauls and a AA raven, bust or other smallish RFID "interactive" animatronic.

 I have spent the last few days researching all the new products I was going to bring back to the UK for my dining room refurb to HM style as we were visiting just before Halloween..... :bawling:
Where can we get good HM products on property?
I bought a nice hitch hiking ghosts plate at the new Marketplace Co-op in DTD (LOVE that store btw). There may be a few glasses, silverware, and I know there was a throw pillow

I do appreciate that Del Toro's having a lot of effort put into the writing seeing as a bad script was a contributor to how last time sucked. If we're lucky they might say something at D23 next year.

Agreed. The old effect was so simple yet so much more convincing. You were seeing actual three dimensional figures so it looked real. Just like the ballroom scene, it still stumps people to this day despite being a well known theater trick.

Oh would it be shocking if it was because of this....

I'm just going to say it - No this refurbishment will not be for a Nightmare Before Christmas overlay!

Considering how that's an overlay that runs from September through Christmas in both Anaheim's and Tokyo's Haunted Mansion, I would hope they wouldn't try to shove it in for only two weeks in Orlando.

I've been on the Tokyo version of Haunted Mansion Holiday a few times now. Since the Tokyo version of Haunted Mansion is a nearly exact clone of the Orlando version, I always wondered if WDI didn't make a duplicate set of Holiday set pieces and animatronics to install in the Orlando version some day when TDO decides to go for it.

A lot of the Holiday set pieces are shared between Anaheim and Tokyo, but the Tokyo version has a few key differences owing to the different track layout and set design that is a clone of the Orlando version. I'd be surprised if WDI never thought to copy the Tokyo stuff for Orlando.

I heard that the props and set peices for Tokyo's installation were originally intended for MK's version, but TDO passed on it. Not sure how much of that is true, but let's be honest, would anyone be surprised? :banghead:
