I also say bring on the pirates. I do think that for now it is a Disney phase things will calm down just like stitch and everest has. It should be interesting to see if the facination with pirates will be replaced by Monsters when the laugh floor opens.

Although I miss the days when potc was a walk on ride, and only true WDW fans loved it I am happy this movie has had such amazing success and such an impact.

It used to be just the pirate theme in general... .now it's everything Johhny Depp....

I liked the movie, but they can take it too far...

Loved Stitch at first... now he's annoying...

Johnny is nice, but they could use some more general theming. That said, it really is selling. If the new generation of Disney fans connects to Pirates, then so be it! Disney will do to it what they have done to all of their properties since the beginning - sell them to the hilt! And I'm not sure that is a bad thing. It means that there is something popular to sell, and that people are still experiencing the magic.

Bring it on. It's really 'not in your face' yet. There's tons of stuff, that I don't care for, that is just as easy to ignore. Too much? Not in my opinion.

(And with another movie looming, I don't think we've seen the 'crest of the wave' yet either.)

What bigger and better thing would you have them go with? Dead man's chest is the number 3 all time world wide grossing fill in history second only to Titanic and Return of the King. You don't get much bigger than that. As far as the ride goes the majority of guests were upset that Captain Jack was not in the ride. I can't tell you how many people that I overheard asking where he was only to have a cast member explain to them that Captain Jack never was in PotC. The park has to cater to what the public wants. Right now they want pirates. I guarantee if the Haunted Mansion movie had the success that PotC did that ride would be getting a movie makeover as well.
My main point is that people are now drawn to disney and this specific attraction because of the movie. So many would not enjoy the ride as much if it wasnt for the new "Johnny Depp" character.

I dont know about overboard. But I do know compared to other Disney movies (not including Pixar) that in the last decade there is nothing really for them to latch onto. You can argue that Narnia is popular, but really those characters werent memorable by any means. I dont mind the Pirate upgrade i was disappointed they didnt change it more. You have all this excitement going on with the thrill ride like speeds of a small world. No offense to any of you nostalgia buffs but the old ride was well...like staring at a wooden plank. At least Jack gives you some comic relief...be it however small.

What they need to do is stop throwing out movies with the sole purpose of making money. We all know disney makes money..But you used to be able to name the big movies every year. Now you cant even tell the disney animated from anything you'd see on Nick Jr. Without pixar disney wouldnt even out draw sponge bob in the animated department. They need to stop dumbing down everything and make real honest to god movies again.

And what is it with almost every disney character not having both parents. Its always one or the other with no explanation. How can you be all about family when you never actually portray a traditional family.

the Darlings have both their parents.

It could be said that so many people would not have even given the ride a second glance if not for Jack Sparrow. It also could be said that there is a whole bunch of people who became interested in visiting MK because of Jack Sparrow. Far fetched? Possibly. But people have done stranger things than traveling to Central Florida to see an animatronic of Johnny Depp. (Like my mom really wanted to see me on her visit from NY in August.)

First off: when the wait time for PotC is less than 5 minutes, and SplashM is over 50, I feel warranted in stating that at that time, SplashM was a more popular attraction than PotC.

Jack Sparrow would not fit the theme of CoP. He quite appropriately fits the theme of PotC, since he is the star of the series of movies based on the ride. And is up with the hostility? I'm not allowed to state my ideas or opinions here? Tool.

Ok, well spalsh always has a longer line because it hold less people. splash holds 8 at a time where as pirates holds at 15-20 per boat. the pirates line also moves a lot faster than splash too.

and about the carousel of progress i was being sarcastic, chill out. i know johnny fits the pirates theme. the movie is based on the ride. that doesnt mean you have to change something that has been good for over 30 years to fit a pirate fad because of a movie.

Exactly. It's been very good over 30 years. It was time for a little update. Granted, they should have overhauled a bit more than they did, but a little love is better than no love. And as for it changing to fit a 'pirate fad because of a movie', then why has it been so good and popular for over 30 years?

I don't think adding Jack to the ride was so bad. I do think the possibities of changing Tom Sawyer's playground to Pirates and possibly being in the GMR maybe be taking it a bit far but I can cut them some slack a little bit, I mean, aside from Buzz Lightyear, what else do they have that really appeals to boys?
plus, I don't see this as a "fad." This could be Disney's Star Wars. Racking a billion dollars one one movie doesn't sound like a "fad" to me

'Pirates' is an awesome opportunity for Disney, they should use it for all its worth without making everyone sick of it.

It's actually something that is not just popular and good, but has the possibility of staying power. Depending on the third movie, POTC could be one of the best trilogies ever made, with the ever popular Johnny Depp, and a great supporting cast, action, comedy, romance, and suspense it has everything.

Disney took a good idea (Pirates...of the Caribbean) and made it GREAT when they made the movie. Well, Johnny Depp really helped their cause, but when a gift like that falls in your lap you don't just say, 'Well, that was good, but let's market something UNPOPULAR' Most every current GREAT Disney flick is a cartoon, also, so it's nice to see a really, really GOOD non-animated film.
