I see the same problem in my family with my nephews...
Theres a certain few years in a teens life where 'pack' mentality is the driving force behind behavior. It's far more important to be 'accepted' by the group then to risk being ostracized by them. I don't think this will EVER change, it's part of the maturity process.

My brother scowled his way through several trips to Disney as a teen...poor kid, being forced to go to WDW for a week or two... I think I mentioned that one trip he didn't smile until the last day when I took him to see Muppetvision. Then I had to buy him a Fozzie.

About three years later he went on a road trip with his friends--they had a blast. He came home telling us about WDW as if he'd never been there before...as if WE hadn't been there before. And the Splash Mountain photo of him and his buddies is a centerpiece in his living room....and there's a giant Haunted Mansion poster framed on the living room wall (the whole house is done is modern eclectic ;) ). So they DO grow out of it...

Forget anyone that thinks you're crazy, they just don't get understand or appreciate the times you can have there. I mentioned to someone about my 12CD compilation of Disney attractions and soudns and stuff and their resposne was

"Ok, now that's weird."

Ah, like I care what anyone else thinks....:D

I get this a lot, but most of the time people just can't understand why we want to return to Orlando year after year.

At my sons school, we're known as the Disney Family.:D

It happens all the time!

Your experience with people thinking you're a bit "odd" for enjoying WDW is one I have experienced many times. I too enjoy going at least once a year and from where I live here in Canada the cost is not as economical as it used to be. Most adults with whom I deal have no concept of the enjoyment that entire families can have there. They have never even given it a second thought let alone planned on going to WDW. I work in the trucking industry so when my fellow workers jump into my van and see Mickey Mouse floor mats it causes quite a stir!!
Really I couldn't care less what they think. Secretly I feel they all would love to experience the fun that I look forward to so greatly each year. Just keep on plugging. The millions of people each year who agree with us can't be wrong!!

Well at 25 i wear my mickey ears proudly. I couldn't give a crap what anyone thinks. During christmas i wear my santa mickey hat all over town. I have been offered cash money for it about 20 times. I think people that make fun of it are just jealous. They must not have had a happy childhood. I just refuse to grow up.

Anyways, If for some reason I ever bring up WDW at school, or just Disney in general, people make fun of me, or look at me like "Man, that guy is weird".
I don't get it. What's wrong with liking something thats pretty much a family tradition(going to WDW is something my family does every year, if not more)?

Well, John, I have to say after reading all these other posts, it certainly is a brave new world out there and you have just come across your own kind ;)

four years ago i thought i was to old and never would have wasted a trip to go to disney.but my wife(girlfriend at the time) won a free trip to orlando so i decided id do it once cause shed been there before and said id like it.once we got there and saw magic kingdom for the first time i instantly lost my negative attitude and we had our greatest vacation ever and have been back at least once a year since.(going again in march). ive figured out that most of the people that dis disney have never even been there and figure its a park for little kids only.they dont realize that theres alien encounter, potc, rnr, tot, splash and space mountain.test track, etc. i usually tell everyone were going and they just laugh and say im a freak but i dont care cause if they dont go shorter lines for me SUX FOR THEM

The thing I've been getting since I said to people we're going to Orlando next year is that they would rather spend that sort of money going to the Carribean or some other beach type resort because it's a tiring holiday.

*8OÞ is what i say to them - I can't wait to walk through the gates at WDW again and see the castle!!

dammit, I forgot to say that there's a guy at work who goes every year - he and his family love it and he's not worried about what people think about it either - if we choose to spend our well earned cash visiting mickey then so what!!

speaking of which, he's off again on dec 30 so he'll be at WDW for new years eve - he cannot wait!!

I hate that...

Hey all! I know, I know I haven't posted in awhile, sorry I've got school. Anyways, as many of you don't know, I'm 14 and in 8th grade. Try talking to 8th graders about how cool Disney is. It's impossible. However, we may be going to WDW for our 8th grade trip this year. (Or, we may just go to King's Island. Ugh) and they'll see, yes, they'll see ::Smiles Evily:: hehehe

Who Likes Disney......

Everybody likes Disney! I think people have many reasons to resent it, everything from being able to make money off people watching to too many gay people there. A lot of people also want to feel older and do not want to embrace child hood, they also want more liqour! LOL

LONG LIVE THE DISNEY EMPIRE! :drevil:

I have a problem with my girlfriend...
She is the one I plan to marry but there is one problem....

She is not a disney freak. she does not like it that much but she says that if I love it then she can work out the Disneyfreak thing,
But I don't want her to just work out things...
that left me thinking.....
I don't know...:(

Seriously though Mike, if she doesn't like it now she won't like it later. I have a similiar problem with my wife except it involves sports. She is not a big sports fan (she does enjoy going to games) at all and that's what I'm all about. It's my escape and she knew that going in and said she was fine with it. Now it's like pulling teeth just to get some time to watch sports. My passion is football so I must watch every Bears game I can.

We have come to an arragement where she just makes other plans on Sunday afternoon. I know she is still not completely happy with this and I can tell in her attitude before she leaves, then I feel guilty and then I don't enjoy the game as much as I should. All I ask for is 3 hours a week, is that too much to ask? I don't think so.

I'm not telling you what you should do here Mike but I thought this might at least help you weigh your options. I know sports and Disney are two separate things but you understand were I'm coming from.

DF, just tell your wife it could be worse!! My husband is a competative sculler and has a regatta every weekend this month except one (he has to work, or he would go to one every weekend) We'll be going to the one in Tenn. with him; he's on his own for the rest! He practices on the water every Sat & Sun AM, practices after work in the summer, and Ergs 3X a week from now until spring. When he's not rowing, he's playing squash! And he still watches football and other sports!

Most of my friends are sinical about Disney but have come to accept I like it, and thats that. I keep quiet because if the vastness of school were to find out then you could imagine what would happen. The only thing I get annoyed about is if anyone does find out you are immediately classed as gay and although I have nothing against anyone like that I resent being given that title.

People tend to bash and make fun of things they don't understand no matter what that may be. :(
