Has the time for A Summer Announcement Passed??

Well, it seems that the "when is spectromagic coming back" thread pops up every few months or so here and there are always people that falsely claim to have the information. There are a few trustyworthy folks here, but to be honest, I haven't read anything conclusive: I've heard "It's gone for good," "MSEP is leaving in June," "MSEP is leaving in September," and of course the strange rumor that a brand-new light parade is coming....
I don't believe any of these until Disney announces otherwise
In terms of a summer announcement, I don't think we'll get anything special. Summer Nightastic was sort of a one-off, I felt like. We'll see what happens, I suppose.

edit: It's worth a mention that MSEP is on the official WDW schedule through the summer...and SpectroMagic has been taken off of WDW's website completely.

I have a feeling Martin was joking lol.

I guess we need to just wait and see what happens in the weeks, months ahead.

I think the MSEP is the better fit for the MK. Plus I'm addicted to the music.

Can't they move Spectro to the Studios, make it their nighttime parade?

How do you know this?
Marni knows me...

...and I in turn am well-connected to a bus driver at WDW.

Forget bus drivers.
Martin gets his best info from the...umm...colorful characters that frequent the Adventureland smoking area. An absolute goldmine of information!

This is in one of the official D23 books sold at the parks... do you think it means anything? There may be no date on the return but according to this at least it will!

Interesting. So it apparently will be back at some point. How "old" is the book? As in how long has it been on the shelves? You know what, I hate to admit it as an avid MSEP die-hard, but at this point I am willing to bet a 2013 return for SpectroMagic. I think it's getting to be too late in the year to announce a summer return ...they'd need several weeks for a passholder farewell party for MSEP. When Spectro left, they gave 4 months advance in 2010, and when MSEP left last, they gave the entire month of March 2001 to say "farewell" to it.

The book, Disney in Details, was just released before Christmas.
But alot of the times publications dont always connect correctly between actual park operations even within Disney itself.
From the insiders posts a return of spectro sooner than 2013 is sounding more imminent really and hopefully. Like they said in other posts it could happen with little to no announcement per say.

This is true.
I wouldn't think they would do it with little fanfare. EVERYTHING Disney does has some sort of announcement and fanfare around it, especially when it's replacing a 30-year old parade with a 20 year old one..aka nothing "new" but a lure to still get people to come and see it. But the Main Street Electrical Parade has such huge borderline FANATICAL fanbase (as does SpectroMagic to a degree) that I would think they would want to send it off on a giant note as they always do...and welcome back Spectro in a bit of a grand way too, ESPECIALLY if it's updated.

They should send Spectro or MSEP to the Studios.... people love the night time parades....and of course this would help spread the Guest numbers out a bit...

To keep both wouldn't be a half-bad idea. If this ever happened, I'd like to keep MSEP on Main Street so send SpectroMagic to DHS.

Actually, what I would really like is to bring WDW's original MSEP out of storage and run it in MK and run Spectro at DHS. That way Disneyland could get back its beloved original MSEP as it deserves...hey I can dream, can't I?

A good update would be really nice to see in the parade! I think that MSEP is good but it's just missing the "wow" factor that Specto has. Plus, Spectro includes a lot more movies than MSEP, and in my opinion is A LOT better! And as for the book Disney in Details is the name, and I bought it at AK in January. But the fact that it doesn't give a date and just says ends it run just shows that Disney will keep MSEP as long as people keep coming for its "revival" here. But, I agree that the transition won't be small deal here.

From what I can tell, the allure of either parade has a lot to do with what you grew up with/saw first. I grew up with the MSEP, so for me, it's classic. Whereas Spectro seemed like a lame substitute. The music does have a knack for looping in my head, just like MSEP, though. Not that I necessarily dislike it. I'm not a giant parade fan, so I seldom will make time to stop and watch, particularly if it's crowded. Frankly, I'm in the camp that I would like to hope Disney would debut a new parade entirely. Unlikely, but one can dream.

Or why not make the parades seasonal? They store them on property, anyway. So, why not do one for a holiday/summer run and the other for the off-seasons? Might as well use them, y'know. If DLR can do a seasonal fireworks show, WDW could definitely do it for parades. It's already done for Halloween and Christmas, anyway. (Boo To You is my top favorite, after all).

Hmm, well Martin have you heard about any visible changes to the floats? Music changes? Anything? I am thinking, sadly, no :-(.

I have to say It does seems a little strange why they would want to go back to a parade that is not updated with LEDs, requires more performers I think, and will all in all cost more to run. Like what advantage is it giving them by bringing Spectro back? Unless they have no choice?

No choice? Like the floats of MSEP having to be towed up the hill?
