Has Disney ever listened to fan/guest feedback regarding a proposed attraction change or closing and actually changed its mind?

Aladdin the musical was saved for a couple years when it was originally announced to be replaced with Toy Story due to fan backlash. Granted that’s DL where fans get a tad slightly more input.

The only time I can remember hearing about Disney listening to fans opinions was I believe back in the late 80's Disney was going to close CoP, but, and I can't verify this, enough fans complained and Disney kept the attraction open because of this.

I haven't been asked to do one of those Disney surveys in years. What are some of the usual questions they ask? Do they really ask guests about their opinions/experience? or is it more about data gathering?

A bit of both. They usually start with basic demographic questions, what state, what ticket type, etc and scan your Magic Band. Then it moves on to the topic of the survey. I think the last one we did was about Fantasyland, and more specifically the cleanliness. Something like "Did you do any attractions in Fantasyland." "Did you see any trash cans in Fantasyland." "Did you see any CMs cleaning in Fantasyland." "How was your interaction with those CMs." But I've also been there for more detailed surveys, we did one at Epcot about dining. Listed all the restaurants, asking if we ate at each one, and for those we ate at, they then asked the typical how would you rate your experience, how would you rate the food options, would you be likely to return, etc. With the advent of MDE and big data, they don't need to gather much demo.

I haven't gotten to see the new version yet, although I will in May :) But yes, I did always enjoy that original version.
Just go into it with the opinion that the original was the best it ever will be, Walt is rolling over in his grave, and they used the blood of puppies to build the new one.

Then, once you see it, you may think, well, it wasn’t THAT bad and enjoy it!

I usually get the surveys after our trips (I must be on the list), and it can totally vary. It's rarely just about the trip in general. One time, they asked me a lot of questions solely about my lunch at Epcot's Mexico pavilion. They also may dive into movies, merchandise, and hotel experiences plus the more general questions about our room, service, etc. I love taking the surveys, regardless if they do much.

One of the biggest save the attraction campaigns in memory was probably the closing of the Adventurers Club which I believe had a much longer closure warning than what we had with the GMR. Those efforts didn't keep the club open for even an extra day. All sorts of alternative suggestions were offered but fell on deaf ears.

lol.

This is interesting because someone just told me that Disney would change if a large group of folks voiced their displeasure. seems like it hasn't been working.

Anyhoo, my opinion? Disney doesn't give a rats shiny boo boo what folks who complain say. why? because the parks and the resorts are still packed to the gills. As longs as folks are still coming in droves they have absolutely no reason why they should change.

If you were selling a product and you could lower the quality, lower the cost to make or run and people were still buying it, would you change?

I've got two words to close.

Adventurers club.
It was fantastic. when they closed it there were on line petitions, petitons to flood the company with emails voicing their displeasure and even boycotts.

The adventurers club closed.
Or better yet, how about every year when Disney raises it's admission prices and people swear that's it, no more. boycott. has that actually stopped the price jumps?

Disney's first and foremost obligation is to the shareholders and truthfully I wonder about that. If you forget that, you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

just my opinion.

People were very upset with the removal of Off Kilter and a concerted letter writing campaign ensued but the show was terminated on exactly the date that the band had originally been told. I do think that they re-do items such as Imagination and yes even Off Kilter, so as not to admit that a mistake was made with the original change. Marie

Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln at Disneyland was going to be replaced by a Muppets show back in the 90s, but outcry from fans and the local community put a stop to it. This is the only example I cam really think of, though.

EDIT: Oops, @danyoung56 beat me to it.

That's total BS. @ParentsOf4 started a thread about grading Disney World "now" vs Disney World "of the past", which of course included a detailed chart and analysis pertaining the topic of the thread. The (pleasant) discussion was about past vs present but you assumed people were complaining and your replies were the old and dusty, "if you don't like it, why do you still go", which had nothing to do with the topic at hand. Here is the post from @ParentsOf4 that you referenced above:
Disney genuinely listens to customer complaints, watches for trends, and adjusts where it makes sense. One person complaining will not cause change. Many will. Recently, there have been changes at WDW to correct problems that online communities complained about a few years before. If enough complain, Disney will listen.
Now here you are in this thread applying that post to the topic of Disney building an entire attraction based on fan feedback which is completely twisting the point of his post. smh

Apologies to the OP for the off topic post, I just felt the need to call out this malarkey.
