Has anything stopped the "magic"?

I don't know if anyone's brought this up, but has something ever happened- or have you ever seen anything that totally takes you out of the Disney mood?

Despite numerous hardships in my life, I've always been able to make light of things in theme/amusement parks. Disney is the pinnacle of happiness for me.

I've had the magic ruined at other parks, but WDW has never let me down. From cool cast members to innovative rides and attractios....

However, I'm sure at least one of you out there has had something bad happen... Maybe not even bad- just something that throws your groove off.

I was at Disney on Sept 11th...I must admit my happy-Disney groove was thrown off, especially since I am from Long Island and work in Manhattan...and with the phones all messed up I could not account for my friends and co-workers for a while. Plus the parks closed...

So it was not Disney's fault in any way, but it threw off my Disney vacation

Jeez BMC, and I thought I was thrown off being in class and not being able to contact family!!! Wow.... The only thing that ever really threw off my WDW vacation was when my dad lost his wallet with ALL our trip money in it--hes too stubborn to carry travelers checks--but luckily we were there with his best friend and he lent us some cash till we got home and the trip ended up being of the most memorable.

Heading for the great escape.
Having to wait for nearly two hours to get a boat from Po Riverside to DTD got me a little ruffled but not too bad as the trip down is just sooo chilled. the worst problem was that when we got there it was another 90 min wait for a table for a meal, with thre stroppy kids the youngest of which was completely Pete Tong buy the end of the night.
Learned to take bus down, boat back!

Hey we were at Busch Gardens VA and we were riding Apollo's Charriot and my dad lost his car keys and he had to go to a Toyotta Dealership and get a key made while we played around the park.. Thats the only time we were really thrown off from a park attitude.. SORRY IT WASNT DISNEY!:):)

Seeing people smoke out of the Disney designated areas and then blowing the smoke toward little kids faces...I think Disney should crack down and kick the smoking violators out for violating the rules. That is my pet peeve and totally ruins the "magic."

The most jarring incident was at Marriot's Great America in Gurnee Illinois...

I was outside the hottest ride of the day called The Edge in the arcade that was across the way. I had just beat Dragon's Lair for the first time when I heard a sudden metallic lurching noise followed by a loud clunk.

I looked and saw a ride car hang sideways and fall 40 feet to the ground with three people in it. People started running away as park attendants tried to calm people. Ambulances roared in and escorted the wounded away.

Soon after, Marriots sold the park to Six Flags.

Fortunately, nothing of the kind has ever happened to me at Disney. This is just one of the many terrible things that have happened around me.

I remember the Edge..but I never rode it (thank god).

I lost my friends car in Universal's Parking Garage last Sept.
Oh I was getting angry with myself as I never do that...and I was very tired...about an hour of walking around the parking garage I found it....doh!:hammer: ;)

there are several things:

Those Electric Rascal carts that they rent out. My opinion is rather biased though since i took one to the heel while waiting for the Share a Dream Come true parade.

Although i hate to say this, the one thing that TRULY takes the magic away are people in the wheelchairs. I know that they have the right to have fun and all that but this to me is especially true on the Haunted Mansion, where they have to stop the entire ride so someone in a wheelchair can get on. Same with Spaceship Earth.

Those people in the standby line who complain about the people with fastpasses as you walk by them. I've had someone try and trip me, and some mom yell at me because we were making her and her kids wait longer. And i'm like, well you can get a fastpass too.

Last time i was there in march for a school trip, myself being the only senior and the only disney fan, I had to hear everyone complain about how boring THEY THINK it is, which bugged me a lot.

I never had the chance to ride that coaster. But I have heard about the accident. What kind of ride was The Edge?

I also never new that Six Flags was onced owned by Marriott.

Yo Brer Bear, I thought it was pretty cool when Marriott's owned Six Flags. After every ride when they workers gave the exit ride announcement, they would say, "Have a Grrreat Day and Marriott's Grrreat America!". I miss that. Any way, the edge was sort of like ToT. You sat in a car, 4 across and it shot up a shaft sort of like an elevator. When you got to the top, your car moved forward just a bit. Since is was all open, you got a great view of the park. Then, like ToT, it dropped and the car shot down the track and then flipped you onto your back. The track was "L" shaped. The only time we rode it everything was find until we ended up on our backs. We were high-fiving each other for what seemed to be longer than usual. The a worker came over and said "congratulations, you 4 have broken the edge." We were stuck on our back about 5-10 minutes. At least it was better than being stuck on top.

I was also there over Sept 11th it did throw off the mood, But in other ways it was good we were there, when we were at the parks you forgot about what was going on in the world, for a little while.

no magic

I have two pet peeves at the parks that just drive me crazy. First is the smokers who light up wherever they feel like. Secondly, its the people who cluster around the fastpass entrance of an attraction waiting for their time to come up. Meanwhile you have to fight your way through this crowd to enter the fastpass queue. It got so bad my normally sweet and gentle wife yelled at people to get out of her way when tring to get to the fastpass queue at Splash Mountain.:hammer: :zipit:

Hehe, I did the same thing myself at Animal Kingdom in 2000. I had to appologise to my wife afterwards because I got so mad at myself and was just shouting snd getting more and more worked. up.

The fact that Disney pays special attention to wheelchairs is very MAGICAL!! We took my father-in-law to Disney in 1998 and he had ALS (Lou Gerhig's Disease) and the cast members made his trip very memorable. I was touched with the attention that they paid to him. So you have to wait a few extra minutes, get over it.. just think how happy the person in the wheelchairs feels. I know my father-in-law didn't want to be in that chair but he had NO CHOICE!!!
On the other hand when I see someone who shouldn't be in a wheelchair (ie. obese people, small children and teenagers) and you know they got the wheelchair from guest services just so they don't have to walk or wait inline now that is wrong and takes the magic away.
