Has anything stopped the "magic"?

I couldn't agree more. I personally think smoking shouldn't be allowed in the parks at all, but I do like that Disney has at least designated smoking areas. Now they just need to enforce it. I shouldn't have to suffer because of somebody ele's nasty habit.:hurl:

ITS THE PEOPLE

For me its the people and the kids that ruin the magic.

I remember when my brother and I were eight or nine years old and going to WDW in 1972 and we were wearing matching windbreakers, My Mother in a skirt with matching scarf. My father in neat knit shirt and real pants and shoes. I was thrilled to get a frozen orange juice pop. I couldn't believe it fozen OJ on a stick what a great idea and In Adventure Land too. If you look in the background of those photos I see well dressed families lining up in an orderly fashion only a few small strollers and all excesss flab well hidden.

Today I hear screaming, yelling, kids who are too young for certain shows, parents trying to reason with children, vulgarity, dirty T-shirts, bullet proof polyseter pull-on pants, women who think jogging bras are clothing and body oder.

Only occasionaly do I see a sweet little family and I find myself starring at them and remembering.

If you got rid of the people Disney would be truly magical.

The strollers are out of control. I've seen people pushing double wide strollers into stores and down the main street sidewalks, fully expecting anybody in their way should yield immediately.

I also agree with the smoking, just outlaw it in the park, period. The smoking in lines is virtually ignored, enforce the rules or just stop it at the door.

I'd have to say some of the people in the standby line are pretty rude. I had a guy tring to collect our fast passes and he was in the standby line!. I also hate when you are behind someone that smells like a horse's...........well, you know what.:animwink:

there are several things:

On the other hand when I see someone who shouldn't be in a wheelchair (ie. obese people, small children and teenagers) and you know they got the wheelchair from guest services just so they don't have to walk or wait inline now that is wrong and takes the magic away.

This is what i was getting at. If you don't want to walk around and have fun, but cause angst amongst guests, then don't come to the parks.

When I went on HM in March, we stopped i think about 4 times. When we got off, we stood there waiting for the rest of our party who entered about 15 minutes after we did, and we saw the people in the wheelchairs. They were people that looked like they should of went to their local 24 Hour Fitness for a few weeks before the trip. The people with the diseases such as Lou Gherigs, I truly do feel sorry for, but have great respect for their families for giving them such a great place.

And someone said something about foul mouthed teenagers too. yeah, here in oregon, i'm about as foul-mouthed. I somehow manage to sneak one in in every sentence, but when i am at the parks I don't say one word. I think i did though when i took an electric cart to the foot while waiting for the share a dream come true parade. And i don't try to hold them in either, they just dont come out cuz i'm more concerned with a good experience for myself and the others around me. Plus, I don't like the "Dirty Rotten Teenager" stereotype that plagues me just because i'm seventeen, and i don't like living up to it.

the obnoxious cm's that practically order you to take a picture as soon as you get into a park. I know it is there job but it would be a lot more tolerable if they politely asked you if you would like your picture taken instead of barking orders at you to stand in a certain spot. All of the other cm's were great but these people just suck.

The most jarring incident was at Marriot's Great America in Gurnee Illinois...

I was outside the hottest ride of the day called The Edge in the arcade that was across the way. I had just beat Dragon's Lair for the first time when I heard a sudden metallic lurching noise followed by a loud clunk.

I looked and saw a ride car hang sideways and fall 40 feet to the ground with three people in it. People started running away as park attendants tried to calm people. Ambulances roared in and escorted the wounded away.

Soon after, Marriots sold the park to Six Flags.
Oh Jeez! That is horrible. Nobody died, right?
What year was this? I have never heard of Great America being owned by Mariott.

I don't remember the year, but it was awhile ago probably around 1984 or so... I still have a patch that says "I rode the Edge!". I bought it right after the accidet. There were a whole bunch of rumors that the guys died, but I never found out. I'm sure a search will turn up the info.

Come to think of it, I'm back luck... Rides have broken down around me at Great America several times. I was stuck on the cable cars and had to be helped down via the Gurnee Fire Dept.

Heck the Bird Cages got stuck on me too.

Awhile ago I was interested i writing a book on the history of that park... there are some cool things about it.
