I booked our recent trip (just got back last night...wahhhh)at the 11 months window for BLT. Then at 7 months I waitlisted AKL and WL. I got both of them and had my kiddies choose which one they wanted. They chose AKL so we just had a split stay. It was like two different trips. It was cool.

It's very easy. As soon as it is available, you call them or log online and tell them you'd like it and you got it.

I did get my waitlist granted once...but usually I have great luck and get exactly what I want. I have a home base of Saratoga and hardly ever stay there....prefer just about every other resort. (Now don't hate me if you love SSR....it's just a personal preference.... I would stay there if I had to, but love to see the other resorts).

I've had waitlists granted on 2 occasions: August at the Grand Californian and Christmas at Baylake, which are 2 premium times. It worked very well. The only problem was that I never got notified when it happened. I don't know if the E-mail was blocked somehow or what, but I actually found out when I called them. Maybe that glitch has been cleared up, maybe not.

I have had them granted as well.

I am currently waitlisted for both BW and BC in November (I was on that waitlist as soon as I could book) I am not holding my breath for that one though. Your chances of getting your waitlist depends on the location and the time of the year.

Does anybody know if there is a way to see where you are on the waitlist, such as two parties are in front of you?

Thanks

When my waitlists were available, I was not notified. I just happened to be checking everyday to see and it popped up one night. But I never received any notification via e-mail or a call that it was available if I still wanted it. I kind of don't like that. What if me and someone else had the same waitlist but I happened to check online first...the other person would be out of luck. I think it should be some sort of email and a time frame to select it or it goes to the next person who put it on waitlist, like first come first serve. Just thinking aloud.

But to the OP, it really depends on what time of year and what resort you choose. I'd have a back up booked in case it doesn't pan out.

I had my waitlist granted in 2008/2009. I didn't find anything so I booked cash at ASM. The only thing that popped up was a 1BR from 12-27-08 to 01-03-09. I had extra points and it didn't bother me even though a studio would have done the trick. Waitlists do indeed get granted.

The secret that DVC told me is to call the and wait list each day separately so that way as each day opens up you get it. If you wait list the stay that whole group of days has to be open before they will give it to you.

Wait listed for BW two years ago (December). Received Magical Express tickets in mail.. This was our notification that we received what we wanted.

Isn't there now a maximum number of active wait lists you can have at one time though?

I have gotten my waitlist requests about 66% of the time. A lot depends on the resort, time of year type of villa etc. epcot resorts can get tough during Food and Wine but even there I have had success. I am usually after a 2 BR unit for 5 or 6 days. Since we own at Hilton Head we are always on the 7 month window at WDW resorts. Past few of vacations I have not had to wait list, but called on the first day of the 7-month window. 3 at Boardwalk and 1 at BCV. I even got a 1BR at BWV for 12/21 to 12/28 this year.

FYI on the lack of notification of clearing wait lists--a couple of years ago, they changed the rules so that if your waitlist request cleared, the reservation was automatically changed to the waitlisted stay, instead of the old way where they would call to ask if you still wanted it. I guess they figured if a member didn't really want a particular resort stay, they wouldn't have waitlisted it. ;) This happened at the same time as the "only 2 active waitlists" rule change.

We got our wait-list granted some years back on a studio at OKW (our home resort) during the first week of December(a very busy time at the DVC resorts). We got a great air fare at the last minute and decided to do a long weekend with little notice. That is the only time we have used the wait-list; we normally book far in advance and travel at slower times.
