To all of those who claim that potter's relevance isn't lasting etc etc etc, it seems like the potter universe is going to be getting bigger now. I said this wasn't the last we would see of the series not shocked at all, seems like universal's decision is only getting better as time goes on.

More of a prequel than a spinoff I feel. Spinoff would imply another story line, this is taking place 70 years prior.

It's not really a prequel as I doubt anything that happens in this movie will directly impact Harry's story other then the writing of one of his school text books. A spinoff is usually about a character featured in the original so this is not really either.

Exactly^ She really doesn't want to touch upon the same characters as last time, she just wants to expand the wizarding world

I'm particularly excited about the period setting. How awesome will it be seeing the Wizarding World of the 1920's? Also, it sounds like this will take place in New York, which means more uncharted territory in terms of geography. I wonder if, down the line, Universal will add some nods to these movies in their New York backlot section?

Well the official WB info says the story will start in NYC and based on the animals in the book I'm guessing this will be a world wide movie. It will be neat to see the wizarding world outside of the UK.

Oooh. Good point. We will presumably get to see Newt travelling around to exotic locales. I'm so very curious to find out more about the plot.

I know it's not going t be about the character, but the same ideas etc. will be incorporated hence the word spin off. Just feel like it will ruin/ cheapen the whole thing. My opinion.

The two stories will literally have nothing to do with one another other than sharing the same world. 70 years apart.
