A very strange romur has started, But from a good source. I have heard that Dsney bought the rights to build a Harry Potter ride due to open in 2006-2007. As we haven't heard any news concerning this Ride/Attraction, I have not yet been able to recognize it for a rumor, or leaked information. We shall see, We shall see.

Disney has the complete power to determine what it will sell in its gift shops, and the fact that guests can buy Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix at Drop-In Gifts in the ToT would certainly suggest that something is up...I have heard the same thing as you, also from an...well...an okay source (not Michael Eisner...). I think this is a project that is clearly on Disney's plates--whether or not it will ever get the green light for MGM remains to be seen, but I will take a guess that Harry Potter will appear at the Disney-MGM Studios within five years. It'd be kewl to build Privet Drive at the Studios and have the queue start in Harry's Aunt and Uncle's house and snake toward Hogwarts:)

I for one would love to see an HP (not Hewlett Packard.. We already have that in Mission: SPACE :p :p) attraction in WDW... IMHO Disney-MGM Studios would make a good home for it... I'm not too sure that the UK pavilion in Epcot could make a good home for it though, considering that Epcot is rooted in reality, not fantasy stories... Erm... guess that's all I want to say... :)

I'm not sure the Brits would like Disney representing their culture with Death Eaters, trolls, and Professor Snape...but what do I know.

What you don't like in the parks, ignore!! HAKUNA MATATA

EDIT: as long as it's up for WDI standard!!! No flat rides or normal six flag coasters!!!

BAH! Dreadful.

The Orlando Sentinel brought it up as an EPCOT attraction rumor based on Internet rumors. The article seemed to dismiss the idea.

Simply dreadful!

I'm not very fond of the idea either. I can't see it working anywhere in EPCOT, except for maybe the UK Pavillion Even there though, it doesn't seem to fit EPCOT theme. It has nothing with the cultureof the country. It would be like putting a Wizard of Oz ride in America. Sure, it's American, but it just doesn't represent the American culture. It might work better at MGM, but I wouldn't want to see it there either.

To those who would not want to see a HP ride in the studios, Why?

I mean, you may not personally like it, but I'm sure there are people who personally do not like Indiana Jones, Star Wars, or Aerosmith who enjoy the rides. The only argument I could see against it is that it is just some Pokemon-style fad but from where I sit, HP is here to stay just like Dr. Jones and C-3PO.

The only thing half way concrete about Disney and Harry rumors is this....

"Warner Brothers sold all non-pay television rights to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, while simultaneously acquiring the advance rights to the upcoming November 2002 sequel, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets to ABC.

The deal was worth a reported $140 million.

ABC owns ABC Television Network, ABC Family and theDisney Channel.

The agreement includes a ten-year license for each film.

The broadcast network will take the first run, with subsequent runs then shared between ABC Family and Disney Channel."

Even reading this, it shows that DIsney owns TV rights and that shows a 10-year license. I haven't seen anything that shows where they have any other rights other then when TV finally shows it. I'm not sure whether that 10 year licensing deal would make Disney able to have a ride and if they did, how long would it be around? Couldn't be longer then 10 years. I would also like to say that EPCOT wouldn't really be a good place for a ride it would be better suited for a short run deal at MGM. I would like to have a nice ride or themed area. We are fans of the books and the movies, even though the movies do not do the books justice.

Vell, I am one of the biggest Harry Potter fans there is(and thats no exaggeration). I was in the NY Post recently for it. Harry Potter is not a fad, it is like LOTR, The Wizard of Oz, Shakespeare, etc...Total classics. Our great-grandchildren will be reading the series. Unfortunately though, I do not think Harry Potter fits in into any one of the Disney parks. Maybe a fun special effects tour in M.G.M.(a permanent one), where like the old tours, they could pick children to sit on suspended broomsticks on a blue screen with wind and movement, and make it seem like they are playing quidditch. There could be a walk through of the sets in the movie(like in WB studios in Hollywood), you could get sorted by the sorting hat, write Harry a letter and get it "sent by owl", watch a film on how the special effects were made, etc.. I just don't think a harry potter ride fits into any of the present disney parks. Universal studios(unfortunately) seems like a good place for a ride(though you could do amazing things with the ride). I don't know. I would travel far to see a hp attraction anywhere!

Why would a HP attraction be any worse than Peter Pan? They're both based in London and then people go to a fantasy world. I agree that Epcot is not the right place for it but you could make one heck of a dark ride at MK or the Studios. The Queue starts on Privet Drive and goes to the train station. Then you "walk through" the wall to platform 9 1/2 and board the hogwarts express. As you get to the castle, the ride goes dark, the train facade goes somewhere and when the lights turn on, the guests are all on a giant broom "flying" around hogwarts. Then Harry saves the day and tells you to fly home and you go to the unload station on your broom.

HP has all the elements that would make a classic Disney attraction except that the story wasn't invented by Disney but who says nobody else can come up with classic story?

Imagine if they made an EMV ride themed like Harry Potter. At Disneyland, for awhile, the awesome "wall" effect wasn't working, but when I was there, it was in full function--they use a smoke filled room and a projector to make it look like you are slamming into a wall covered w/ rats. That would be the perfect way to take guests through to the Hogwarts Express. As dark as Harry Potter is, it would make an excellend Indy type ride if Disney doesn't wanna wait for George Lucas to let them make the Indy Adventure at wdw...

This wouldn't surprise me. Disney has "sold out" before. Like when they started selling Pokemon products in Tomorrow Land. I almost threw up my turkey leg when I first saw that.

I absolutely hat this fictional character. never did like it and havent liked it. so im sorry if i offended someone. I also dont think disney will bring this into there parks. where would it fit in. Fantasy land?? where if so??. Not much space in MGM unless they take somethin like the little mermaid out. thats an popular attraction so i doubt they willl do that. I dont see it happenin sorry.:(

HP does not belong in Disney, HP is the most annoying character of all times.HP should go to 6 Flags,I would be really dissapointed with a HP ride in WDW. It was like US taking out the Funtastic World of Hanna Barbera and put Jimmy Neutron another annoying character.
