Harry Potter at IOA?

Today, Screamscape says that it is "confirmed" ... I take this with a less than a grain of salt because, remember when it was confirmed that BTTF was gonna be Simpsons? Again, I'll believe it when I see it...

Walt Disney has probably washed their hands of Harry Potter now that Daniel Radcliffe is now doing legitimate o on the London stage.

I'm with you, kcnole. Lost Continent is one of my favorite themed lands in the park. The only thing I don't like about it are the stupid carnival games.

IOA is one of the most original, well themed, well designed theme parks in the world (IMHO). Seuss Landing, Jurassic Park, etc. aren't completely original (inspired by books/movies/etc), and they're still well done. But, to take the one land that doesn't relate to a single movie or show and change it to Harry F'ing Potter Land would be a disgrace to the park's original designers, and to everyone that visits the park.

The only benefit I see is that they have the potential to add a dark ride, and IOA is in dire need of attractions that can actually operate in inclement weather. If they're going to add a coaster or outdoor ride, then you can throw that benefit out the window.

Having just returned from my second trip to IOA, I think this is fabulous news for Universal and will definitely give it the needed attendance boost. I will be sad to see the Sinbad show go but I suspect something just as entertaining will replace it. Poseidon's Fuy, to me, is pretty unentertaining and a huge space committment. I suspect a Harry Potter dark ride will do very well there.
There is a twofold benefit to this deal, both getting Harry Potter and keeping it away from Disney. Universal needed this to be competitive, I think. Park attendance growth at USF/IOA really lags WDW and given the dearth of new attractions at IOA since it opened (is Seuss Sky Trolley the only one?) I'm not about to complain about the retheming of the Lost Continent.

This will show how popular or profitable the Harry Potter Franchise will be, given the current state of USF. I would expect that HP in and of itself will not give USF the sustained boost it is looking for. They will need to do more than just throw HP into the park. Maybe the theatrical presentation of Equus next to the HP attraction?

Now that would get some interesting demographics!

It's a decent diversion but not really worth a repeat viewing. I won't mind losing that show if it must go or Sinbad's show, but what I will mind losing is the beautiful theming of the outside of Poseidon. In my opinion, that's Universal's best work theming wise.

And how are you going to fit Mythos into the HP theme. Don't dare touch that building. It's the greatest restaurant in any theme park around and beautiful as well.

And as we all know...if Jim Hill said it - it MUST be true!

No, but the fact is he already WAS wrong about this. He swore in a previous article that Disney had Potter and that Universal was putting in Wizard of Oz. The fact that he is fessing up to his mistake makes me think this is for real.

If I'm honest, I really don't care who puts Harry Potter rides/park/land in, just so long as SOMEONE does!

The possibilities are endless really.

So far as IOA/Lost Continant goes, they could quite easily refit Duling Dragons so that one track represents the Horntail and the other represents Harry on the Firebolt. It would require little work, just a repaint, and re design of the cars, possibly a facelift of the castle to resemble Hogwarts.

Hp @ Uso

Ya know I hope that they get this franchise but...

and here is the really BIG but...

A few weeks ago a large group of General Electric Companies (the owners of Universal Orlando I.E. NBC UNIVERSAL) were at the Loews hotels @ UO having unrelated business meettings. Well, I have a job that requires that I interact with the convention guest and during this time some of the GE execs indicated that UO/IOA was a property that GE wasn't really interested in. That being said I doubt anything new at UO/IOA is going to happen until the park gets a new owner.

I don't know this might just be a load of hot smelly... well you know what I mean... after all these guys were feeding us information after a spending some time with our freind Jack Danels and Anhizher Bush but none the less they did say that about UO. I know it is horrible thought but Gaylord Entertainment shut down thier park in Nashville for similar reasons back in 1997 look it up under Opryland USA. When a park loses attendence the value of selling off the rides becomes more interesting to the owners.

On the brighter side the Loews company is definately considering more hotels at the UO/IOA site. Loews, has a plan to build for the futurethat includes building many hotels two of which are slated for Orlando FL. Mabey the Loews company can help bring some interest into the park again!

This is only the hundredth time we've heard "GE wants to sell UO", and it still isn't coming to fruition.

BTW, Universal isn't Opryland.
