I took the plunge!

During my last vacation to WDW (ended on Saturday) I became a DVC member.

I may be using some of the points as early as February!

I just wanted to share my happy news.

WELCOME HOME!!

We are new members too (since last Sept.), and looking forward to our first DVC stay during the first week of January, 2006. We are already planning on June at Disneyland and then flying over to WDW immediately afterwards.

Welcome Home!

While others may disagree about the value of DVC ownership, we've been DVC members for 10 years now, and haven't regretted it once! :D

We liked the flexibility so much, we eventually bought a 2nd batch of points at Vero Beach, as we usually spend a few days there each trip to Florida. :)

Welcome home!!!!!!! We love DVC. We are staying at SSR for the 1st time in January and looking forward to it, (own at VWL, but mostly stay at BCV if we can.)

If you are looking for other DVC web sites try this in addtion to Magic,

http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=7

It has thousands of DVC members and I get most of my current info from there (and belive it or not a number of memebers with 500+ points. I just can't imagine that, dream a little, but don't see it happening to me.

Welcome Home!

Congratulations!! We have been members since 2001 and really love the DVC - not a single regret other than not buying in a bit sooner!

I bought 150 at SSR. My goal is about 250 - I'll buy them in 25 point chunks when I can.

They had a pretty good deal. In addition to the $8 off per point, they put my use year back to April of 2005 (and prorated the maintenance fees for only Oct, Nov and Dec) So - come April 2006, I'll have 300 points (I immediately banked the 150)

I'm hoping to buy 25 points a year from this point on until I reach 250.

That's great. Our 160 points will get us 7 nights at SSR during Winter break every other year (that's all my wife will allow).

We'll be there at BWV in August, too.
Last one to the Keister Coaster is a rotten egg!

We just got back from the BWV and the slide was great. If you lay flat the whole way down, you'll pick up a lot of speed.

DVC worth it? Why?

I have considered doing this for over a year now. I recently got back from my latest trip in December and every time I come back home I miss Disney even more. I'm actually starting to worry myself.............

Anyway, let me see if I have this right. You have to buy a minimum of 150 points at a set price (say 15,000 as an example). Then you get another bill on top of that yearly (say 600) for service fees. The contract lasts 40 or 50 years? So once you pay off the initial 15,000 you actually only have to pay the 600 service fees for the year and thats it? And of course you can bank the points for the following year and have like 300 to use instead of 150.

Am I missing anything? Is it worth it to you guys? Can anyone give examples? Presently its just my wife and with a family coming within the next year.

Hmmmm. Is it worth it? That's a tough one. Give me a minute........

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!

OK, so they tell you that you can vacation at wonderful places all over the world. We have only used the vacation club for WDW visits. As I have stated in previous posts, my reasons for loving this investment have more to do with the guarantee of a vacation than the actual savings involved.

Life is expensive and the first thing that we'd put on the back burner would be vacation money. Braces, school, car repairs, home maintenance all take their toll and don't even start me on the property taxes we Long Islanders pay.
Knowing that we'll have a vacation each year is golden. Knowing that it's in a great resort with terrific food and a clean, safe atmosphere is fabulous.

Now, here's an example: You buy 150 pt. You've paid for them and now just have to worry about annual dues which, as you said, are about $600 for 150 pt. You can now take a 6 day vacation in a standard studio (sleeps 2 adults and 2 kids) at the Boardwalk in the least busy season and then, take another one in the summer - OR - You can show up once a year and book a standard studio for app. 10 days in the summer, the most expensive (points wise) time of the year.
There are discounts available to DVC members and other little perks like the members only parties and cruises.

So, how does all this sound?

I strongly suggest you take the tour. It costs nothing, you are under no obligation to sign up, and you'll have ample time to sit down with a DVC rep and actually calculate how much your exact payment is with the number of points that you wish to purchase. They have a computer that you can play with that does that. Have those printed out and go over them at home and see if what you will be paying is (i) comparable to what you have already been spending (ii) and if they're not the same, consider if what you get as a DVC member worth spending for.

Only you can judge for yourself if such a thing is worthwhile. It highly depends on what you're used to paying when you're there, how often you go, etc. If you're used to staying at the Value Resorts or other budget accomodations, then you will not save money with DVC. Even a DVC rep will tell you that. A DVC resort is not comparable to the Value resort.

So it really depends on what you're used to, and what you expect. Look at the accomodations and facilities, and look at what you have to pay, and ask yourself it is worth it. And whatever you do, do not look at the perks that come along with the membership as part of your consideration. Those discounts and stuff are bonuses. They are never guaranteed as part of your membership and can be taken away.Consider just the product/service that you are paying for and see if it is worth the money.
